Publisher's Summary

You can't see them. But they can see you.

This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.

Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time. Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the watchers and why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned, keen to watch their every move?

Surprising and original

The story was unique and a welcome reprieve from the tired “magical realism” genre that so often gets shuffled under the “horror” umbrella.
Well written, well read, and over all worth the read.
There were times when I was a bit dubious and nearly gave it up, but I am glad I didn’t. Patience is key. The mystery never fully unravels until the very last word.

Great ending!

The narrator was spectacular, perfect for this story. The ending was so much better than I had imagined. A delightfully creepy take on old fairy lore, with plenty of attention holding twists.

This was different. I really enjoyed the narrator's Irish accent, it was great for story telling.

Horrifying and Awesome

To those who like their horror books to conjure realistic, creative and memorable moments to mind and carve them there, buy this book.
Well written too and would give more than 5 stars if I could, not only because of the aforementioned attributes, but the character development that really made you care about their peril.
I have hundreds of Audible books. This one is in the top three of the best . Enjoy…if that’s the right word about nearly perfect horror.

Worth the listen!

Original take on traditional folklore, really kept me on the edge of my seat! One of the best audiobooks I have listened to in a long time. I have already added the author’s next title to my wish list.

Outstanding!

A suffocatingly claustrophobic and unsettling read. This book goes beyond horror, as it is crafted beautifully and has a lovely melodic feel to it. Outstanding performance by the narrator, who created a really immersive experience. I’ll keep my light on!

Well constructed, if a little shallow

The Watchers is an excellently narrated, binge-worthy blend of ‘The Descent’, ‘Lost’ and (more interestingly) Gaelic mythology. It all works best when you don’t stop to consider the occasional plot hole.

A.M.Shine weaves a murky, claustrophobic ambience as opposed to outright terror, and whilst the story almost certainly could be leaner and less telegraphed, the gear changes between acts arrive in time to stop things sagging. Enjoyable.

Absolutely chilling!

Often with horror you end up compromising on quality writing in order to read a good scare, but this book is beautifully written and carefully executed. I felt like it was me being watched, the writer is so good at making you feel like you are right there with the characters. Best of all, it had a proper ending. Very much recommend this.

Slow and lack luster

I don’t know if it was the narration or the story but it was flat, no peaks and troughs as you would expect from a horror, it lacked pace the last hour was about the best but it wasn’t for me.
