Publisher's Summary

A riveting new story of heroism, heartache, and the power of love to heal all wounds.

Murphy Shepherd is a man with many secrets. He lives alone on an island, tending the grounds of a church with no parishioners, and he’s dedicated his life to rescuing those in peril. But as he mourns the loss of his mentor and friend, Murph himself may be more lost than he realizes.

When he pulls a beautiful woman named Summer out of Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, Murph’s mission to lay his mentor to rest at the end of the world takes a dangerous turn. Drawn to Summer, and desperate to find her missing daughter, Murph is pulled deeper and deeper into the dark and dangerous world of modern-day slavery.

With help from some unexpected new friends, including a faithful Labrador he plucks from the ocean and an ex-convict named Clay, Murph must race against the clock to locate the girl before he is consumed by the secrets of his past - and the ghosts who tried to bury them.

With Charles Martin’s trademark lyricism and poignant prose, The Water Keeper is at once a tender love story and a heartrending search for freedom.

"I’m telling you, it’s an action-packed, classic Charles Martin romance novel unlike anything I’ve ever read. And remember...the day you pick up this book is the day you become temporarily unavailable to the world." (Charlie Martin, son of Charles Martin)

"Charles Martin fans rejoice, because he’s done it again...a multilayered story woven together with grace and redemption, and packed tight with tension and achingly real characters." (Lauren Denton, USA Today best-selling author of The Hideaway)

"In The Water Keeper Charles Martin crafts a compelling story with skill and sensitivity. Open the pages of this book and you’ll enter the world of characters caught up in a real-life drama that grips the heart. As with all of Charles’s books you never finish it - you continue to live there in your own imagination. Current fans won’t be disappointed; new readers will understand why Charles Martin is on the short list of contemporary authors I recommend above all others." (Robert Whitlow, best-selling author)

Wrong Narrator

This is a good story, if a bit predictable. But the extremely young voice of the main character really ruined it for me. He was not believable at all as a 49 year old agent who rescues stolen children. I almost quit three times but the story was interesting enough to take me to the sappy ending. I would read another of Mr Martin’s books but not with this narrator. The narrator has a clear and precise tone and fine pacing delivery. If he was reading as a teenager or young man I would gladly listen to him. He just didn’t represent this character. Sorry

Painful

Usually love this author, but this was sappy, painfully repetitive, I could not wait for it to end.

End Human Trafficking

This book was nothing short of amazing. Charles Martin never disappoints!
The horrors of human trafficking are viewed through the eyes of a rescuer—one that pictures Jesus.
I absolutely loved it.

Clear your schedule and listen

Once you start down this journey you’ll never stop or look back. You’ll hope it’ll never end. The depth and story of this book is unlike anything ever heard before. You’ll laugh, gasp, cry, cringe, and probably curse all before it’s over. If you’re from Florida or know anything about Florida, this book will take you down memory lane with his travels. Just listen okay? Thank me later.

Another 5 star from Martin

I’ve listened to most of Charles Martins audiobooks, each one different and finding myself not being able to leave the story alone for long! Martin definitely has a natural writing gift! Keep writing Charles, refreshing to listen to clean books full of today’s issues, this book even mentions where I live the on Indian River, Merritt island!

This book is so well written that I couldn’t pick it apart if I tried! The characters are so real and so lovable that you will miss them terribly. And we all know that is a mark of a great storyteller!!

Action and romance

Action and romance surround serious topic. I liked how the story developed and secrets were revealed. Some of the circumstances are a bit unbelievable. But the quick action and suspense worked through it.

Excellent storey line

Verry good listen. Reader could better. Room to expand existing characters in book2. Only critisim is that the actions and wounds suffered seem unrealistic
