Publisher's Summary

When King Werewolf shows up in Veterinarian Vee Scarpa’s ER, she’s livid. Her father, the North American head honcho vampire, has threatened a chilling warning if she “accidentally” helped a wolf again, especially since they’re at war. But she’s tempted by the sexy wolf. And his deadly blood calls to her in a way that should set off warning bells.... A promise to his brother-in-arms obliges Lexan Dimitrov to rescue the aristocrat vampire before her family discovers her secret - a secret Vee herself isn’t even aware of.

What he didn’t expect was to find her sexy as hell. He’s not into vamps, yet the inescapable heat building between them is a delicious temptation guaranteed to end in total disaster.

Decent

If you’re in a pinch, and it’s on sale, it’s a decent story to pass the time. A young vampire doctor and reluctantly betrothed ‘princess’ falls for an ancient-in-years but hot-in-body werewolf king. All in all, it works. The mythology is sparse but interesting, and the chemistry between Velvet (yes, that’s her name), and Lexan is compelling. They have definite heat between them. As for the rest, the couple is surrounded by well-developed side characters.

In the negative column, the risk level laid out by the narrative and the action of the plot do not coalesce. There are also questions left unanswered or glossed over by a rushed ending. It’s as if the destination of HEA is more important than the journey it took to get there. In this case, less is just less than I need to warrant more than a 3-star rating.

Performance A+; Story needed improvement

There have been times when a narrator takes away from the story but this was not the case. Avery Reid did a great job with the material she had to work with. She is the main reason I stuck it out to the end and my stubbornness.

As for the story. It was difficult to listen to. I felt like the female main character was supposed to be a well-educated woman that was born into the supernatural community. Having experienced it for 70+ years or something. What a heard was a whiney vampire that needed to be smacked in the face with a get-a-clue stick. She was acting like a petulant child that wouldn’t listen to reason or blatant facts that were waving in her face like a red flag. I tried but could not like her character at all. It wasn’t written badly, so I will give book two a chance to see if the character development with those two lovely people are better.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

the female main character was such a winney ass crybaby, I had to stop listening. I couldn't take it anymore, just saying the same stuff over an over an over....reminded me of the books were you pay as you go and have to buy the chapters.

A Reluctant Bride

Velvet, a hybrid vampire princess, prefers
working as a veterinarian to marriage. As a favor to a friend she treats Lexan, a wounded werewolf King who is both ancient & powerful. The old ways war with the new igniting a passionate chemistry
between would be enemies. True mates? or a disaster waiting to happen?
The romantic dilemma both past & present makes for an entertaining fantasy & a decent paranormal escape from reality.

Solid 3.5 Underworld romance

This is an Audible review. Book was listened part of Audible Plus.

If you liked Underworld and want the romance of Vampire and Werewolf, this is a pretty enjoyable novel for a quick read or listen. Lexan is your typical growly alpha male type and as King, he is used to everyone doing what he says. He is likeable, sexy and entertaining. I appreciate the character development as he learns to compromise for love.

The H is Vee. She is a bit of a negative brat at times, but she is educated as a vet, capable of taking care of herself and disobeys her father and does what is right to help others.

There was decent backstory and additional characters were likeable and supportive. A few, I thought - "this character deserves their own story. I hope we get to know them more." Which to me also defines a great story. The reason for 3- 3.5 star review is Vee should have been more consistent, is she strong? or is she a weak brat? Also, the ending was HEA, but felt very rushed. I understand that this is set up for series, but there are questions left unanswered or glossed over by a rushed ending and the story falls short at the end. It’s as if the destination of HEA was more important than the journey. Endings can and should have teasers, but this was too many hence the 3 stars.

Narrator: The narrator grew on me, although the male voices in the beginning were so terrible I almost didnt continue listening, but glad I did.

Overall, if you looking for quick entertaining supernatural romance, give this book a try.

loved it

narration was great, story kept my interest. Velvets stubbornness got on my nerves. She know the vampire will hunter her but she fights to keep her independence, I would think a smart person would want to lay low til the heat was off her but the females in most books are to stubborn. I would love to read a book were the female doesn't argue with the person who is trying to help them.

Underworld rip off

The book was ok. It did feel very "Underworld." The narrator went from all right to cringe worthy. I honestly listened to this one because it was free. I think better narration might make this more bearable.

narrator shed of been replaced

I liked the story as much as I could follow. The narrator was so bad that I couldn't figure out who was talking, all the vamps spoke the same and all the wolves spoke the same and some times she merge her voice so I was never sure was saying what. Definitely one to read yourself.

this is an audio that would have been immeasurable enhanced by male narrarion to complement the woman's efforts.

Enjoyable story

The story is really good and well written.
Low rating on the narrating-sorry- her voice is really nice unfortunately when performing different characters it is really hard to make the distinction between them as there is little to no difference heard.

KEPT ME HOOKED FROM START TO FINISH

I was pleasantly surprised...I have been binge listening to paranormal romance suspense stories recently and have skipped over this title a few times before deciding to give it a try. Let me tell you the little synopsis about the story doesn't do it justice. There was far more depth and story plot line then I expected. The reading and voice acting is well done and characters are well balanced. It was just a great easy listen, that kept me hooked from start to finish. I have listened to both books in this series and hope there will be more, as the storyline still has more to give.
