I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. And now, because of my blog, everyone knows that Ice Knights hockey star Ian Petrov's best friend and fellow player is actually his half-brother - hello, hockey Hall of Famer dad who couldn't keep his jeans zipped. That wouldn't be such a big deal if Ian knew. He didn't, and boy howdy is he pissed. And who is he most mad at? Oh sure, he's upset with his dad and former best friend/brother from another mother, but most of his ire is with me. It's definitely a case of hating the messenger.

Brooke Chapman-Powell takes her position as the Earl of Englefield’s personal secretary very seriously. This job is what keeps her sister in the university for the deaf and the town from completely shutting down. But the earl is dying, and they have only one hope: an American, from some place called Salvation, Virginia. Now she will have to teach the in-all-likelihood-uncouth-and-lazy half American how to be a proper earl if they hope to save the village. God help them all.

It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good, until a bunch of jerks think it’s hilarious to put the “butterface” (AKA me) on a wedding Kiss Cam with the hottest guy ever - and that old humiliation hits hard. I recognize him immediately. The hottest cop in Waterbury and totally out of my league. But then he kisses me. And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything. Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.

I knocked up my best friend's sister. Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news...together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting, and then bam! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist. Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Now I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

He's a billionaire heir. A grump supreme. Hater of people. Bigger hater of peopling with people. And my new fake boyfriend. "Emotionally unavailable" doesn’t even begin to describe Hayes Rutherford. He has more defenses than a nuclear missile silo. And he’s the ultimate catch of the century. At least, according to his bank statement. My job’s simple: Keep all interested ladies away from the walled-off heir, by pretending to be his one true love. If people have polar opposites, Luca Rossi is mine. His butt is in the baseball hall of fame. Mine's comfortably seated in the hall of lame. When he's not snagging fly balls out in center field, he's modeling in shampoo commercials. I once jammed my own finger while stirring cookie dough, and sometimes I forget shampoo is a thing. He's a total cynic when it comes to love. I make a living writing love stories. But after my latest broken engagement (no, I don't want to talk about how many times that's happened), it's clear he's exactly the man I need.

I’m not boyfriend material. If a trail of broken hearts and a piss-poor record of failed relationships have taught me anything, it’s this. My buddies are happy to give me shit about my latest breakup from here to next Sunday. Thanks, but I’d rather have a root canal. And a vasectomy. At the same time. Relief comes in an unlikely package - the gorgeous and feisty Maren. She just so happens to be my best friend’s sister, so that’s not awkward at all.

Nicholas Hunt is the man I hate. For good reason. His opinion of me is tainted by prejudice even before my arrival at his grandmother’s estate, and my first impression of him is just as abysmal. His arrogance and icy demeanor make it clear that he’s the type of man who’s best handled at a distance. Fortunately, space shouldn’t be an issue inside this Gilded Age mansion and its lush gardens. If I stick with the servants and he keeps to his sailboat, we should hardly cross paths at all. Unfortunately, at Rosethorn, I find that all roads eventually lead to Nicholas Hunt.

Publisher's Summary
Hadley Donavan can’t believe she has to go home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. She’s gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least her bestie agreed he’d man up and help. But then instead of her best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport.
If you looked up “doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire” in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst - even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.
Ten times worse? Hadley’s buffer was supposed to be there to keep her away from the million-and-one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs them up for every. Single. Thing.
Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? She’s in. She can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, their bickering starts to feel like more than just a game....

I liked it, but the narrator...
The book was cute. I liked it a lot. The narrator was almost what did me in. She’s great except for drawing out the last word in 90% of the sentences. This is what she reads like: I went to dinnerrrrrrrrrr. I had fishhhhhhhh. And a potatoooooooo. And omg stop making every word two syllables too longgggggggg. 😠

Not much of a story, but a lot of sex scenes
If you like a lot of graphic sex scenes without much of a plot, this book is for you. For me, I love a good romance novel, but prefer more character development and less descriptive sex scenes. This was the typical "we hate each other but are just too attracted to each other" type novel. The female reader had a fairly deep voice, so her vocalization of both the male and female characters sounded very similar. She also had an odd way of ending all her sentences in a low tone which I found annoying.

Small town girl, big city dreams
from NOLA504NERDS blog
Hadley goes home to Nebraska for her sister’s wedding with her bff Web as a wingman. Only, it’s not Web that shows up to the airport but his evil twin brother Will. Will is a too hot for his own good billionaire. He’s the worst. And Will thinks Hadley is gold-digger scheming Web to get a hold of his fortune. Hadley just wants to do what ever it takes to put up with Will this week and make her family believe she has a perfect life. But fate and Web have other plans for Hadley and Will.
Me and Angie were lucky enough to have a Facebook live with Avery this past Monday. We had such a blast, falling in love with Avery instantly. I immediately got this, her latest book, with my audible credit. I can confirm that Avery meets and exceeds your expectations of a sexy romcom. I literally died from cuteness of this book. There is so much fun and humor in this story. And the sexiness is off the charts! The family dynamics are funny, cute, and satisfying to your soul. PawPaw and his gal pals – omg so freaking adorable and funny. You haven’t lived until you’ve partied with PawPaw. This was such a cute romcom book with some very hot scenes. The story is well developed, entertaining, and addictive. The intensity of hate, lust, and overall chemistry between Hadley and Will is palpable and everything you’d want from an enemies-to-lovers romance. Other bloggers have mentioned the “zipper scene”. Sexiest. Scene. Ever!
“Will was drowning in Hadley and he couldn't think of a better way to go.”
Kelsey Navarro’s audio performance was incredible! This was the first audio I’d listened to by her but it definitely won’t be the last. She brings the characters to life with her voice, energy, and emotional range. She gives each characters their own voice and personality, which adds to the audio experience. Kelsey helps me this an entertaining story. I’d one-click anything she narrates.

This was a really cute romance novel. However there were several scenes that were for a “mature” audience which were too detailed and way too long. Who wants to listen to that in the car going to work?!

Hate to Love
I really enjoyed Avery Flynn's humor especially family game night with Will and Hadley pretending to be in love. Will showed up to take his twin brother's place as Hadley's pretend boyfriend and to try to prove that she's really a gold digger trying to get their fortune. Will is in for an awakening on hrr family's ranch where he doesn't fit in at all. But can he take his blinders off before it's too late and he loses Hadley? I thought Kelsey Navarro did a wonderful job of narrating all the characters. Since this is Book 1, I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Frustratingly sweet
Avery Flynn has a way with characters, even though they're idiots when in love they're likable if not a little frustrating while they work everything out. The story, while not all that revolutionary, is well structured and compliments the character's stories magnificently.

Annoying narrator
Really wanted to listen to this book but couldn’t ignore how annoying the narrator is. Ruins the story completely.

Easy listening with saucy bits
I like listening to this book, I liked the reader too. Easy to follow and great for driving but switch off if in traffic jam with windows down in saucy bits!

Very enjoyable
Sweet story, loved the strong sibling relationship an oft overlooked relationship in these types of books. Although the whole billionaire love story is getting a bit old, much of a richness in that regard. story follows a successful plot outline of so many books so why change it I suppose, would be nice for some role reversals though

A fun read
Whilst I wanted a little more fight in it not unhappy with the story at all. Another quirky and cheeky read well written not unlike Avery’s other novels :) who does love a cowboy and a little sass ;)

Enjoyable
I enjoyed this book which follows the standard enemies to lovers formula which means a summary in this review is redundant.
Kelsey Navarro has a slight drawl which I found super annoying. Were it not for the catchy story, I would have called it quits a couple of chapters in. It would have been better to have broken up the chapters with a male narrator - strange that there is no male narrator given the perspectives change between his and hers from chapter to chapter 🤔

Romance for the modern age
Avery nails it again.
Lovely story, depth of characters, well written, and the gender roles aren't soppy cliches - everything I now expect from a Flynn novel. Bonus points for making condoms sexy and normalising safe sex practices.
