Publisher's Summary

Two friends go on holiday. Only one comes back.

If you loved The Holiday, get ready for your new obsession....

Orla and Kate have been best friends forever. Together they’ve faced it all - be it Orla’s struggles as a new mother or Kate’s messy divorce. And whatever else happens in their lives, they can always look forward to their annual weekend away.

This year, they’re off to Lisbon: the perfect flat, the perfect view, the perfect itinerary. And what better way to kick things off in style than with the perfect night out?

But when Orla wakes up the next morning, Kate is gone. Brushed off by the police and with only a fuzzy memory of the night’s events, Orla is her friend’s only hope. As she frantically retraces their steps, Orla makes a series of shattering discoveries that threaten everything she holds dear. Because while Lisbon holds the secret of what happened that night, the truth may lie closer to home....

A twisty holiday listen for fans of The Holiday and Date Night.

Don’t bother

I got this book because I liked Friends Like These by the same author, however I was not impressed by this one. It was pretty boring. If you skip this you you really aren’t missing anything.

Okay Read

I didnt love it - but it wasnt bad enough not to finish it either. Not a book I would rave about. Found the narrator a bit annoying - frantic from start to finish with no variation. Needed a break in beteeen! Sounded miserable as sin from the word go and for some reason the way she pronounced apartment, which she said alot, drove me nuts but that may just be me! Story was maybe a bit predictable and didnt really grab me. Thought some of the dialogue was a bit naff too.

So well written!

First book I’ve ever finished and it’s amazing. Only took a week as I was hooked!

5 1/2*

This was so entertaining. Intense and “twisty”. Although I spent most of it trying to talk myself out of what I’d worked out about the “who, what, why”, I was actually correct. I hate that about me! It didn’t spoil it though. What did spoil it for me was literally the very end.

Too long

I quite enjoyed this book up to a point. However it went on too long with too many unlikely scenarios. Helpful taxi driver, weird landlord, incompetent police. I could go on but I wanted it to end long before it did. I was as exhausted as the ‘heroine’

Not a light summer read

The story is OK, well read and with some nice twists, however don't be fooled by the cover picture. It is not a light summer read, it is several hours of agony and frustration. Do not expect any description of Lisbon scenery, tourist attractions, streets, cafes, etc. It is a detective story with some twists and turns and some very unlikely events. Quite gripping, especially in the first half.

Twists and turns, plus a great performance

Absorbing escapist thriller. Really well performed and kept me hooked in these locked-down times.

Very listenable

The first two thirds were pretty good - well written and not obvious where things were going. Final third got a bit ridiculous, which is normal for this genre, but dragged on with too many increasingly improbable twists and made the main character less likable. In the end I wasn't too bothered what happened to her, which is lucky as I didn't actually understand the very end bit. Still enjoyed it though, and the narrator was good.

Enthralling!

One of the most captivating books I have listened to in a while - unusual and exciting plot that’ll keep you hooked to the very last sentence.
Fantastic narration too!
