Publisher's Summary

The reviled villainesses of Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel team up to set the record straight in a subversively funny short story by the number one New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay.

Envious queen? Evil stepmother? Kidnapping hag? Elsinora, Gwendolyn, and Marguerite are through with warts-and-all tabloids, ugly lies, and the three ungrateful brats who pitted them against each other and the world. But maybe there’s more to the stories than even the Wickeds know. Is it time to finally get revenge? After all, they’re due for a happily-enough-ever-after. Even if they have to write it themselves.

The Wickeds is part of Faraway, a collection of retold fairy tales that take the happily-ever-after in daring new directions. Whether read or listened to in one sitting, prepare to be charmed, moved, enlightened, and frightened all over again.

Three wicked witches walk into a bar...

*minor spoilers* "Three wicked witches walk into a bar" sounds like the beginning of a bad fairytale joke, but this is precisely what happens. Evil Queen of Snow White, Cinderella, and guardian of Rapunzel meet in the waiting room of a plastic surgeon's office and proceed to play Spindles (their version of darts) afterward. They become fast friends, finding that they have one common theme: they are perceived as evil throughout the land due to their less than stellar parenting of their "spoiled" stepdaughters. What happens next is actually quite comical: they are the ones who attend a Ball, as men! Of course chaos ensues, but that's what makes this particular twisted take fun, told from the view of the Wickeds. This short story is by far the best of the series, so far.

New take, but was hoping for a different direction

Narrator was good, the story was quick and it was an interesting take on tales told over and over again. would have liked a different ending, but still enjoyed it.

Enjoyed the retelling

Funny and inventive retelling of (3) fairy tale wicked stepmothers, but the ending kind of fizzled out. Excellent narration.

Alternate Fairly Tale

This was a short, sweet story about the three villains known as the Wickeds, a bit more about their backstory and what really happened. A nice revisionist history. The ending is left open for more. Nice narration in the audiobook. Wish it had been a bit longer and some revenge dished out instead.

Fun twist!

This was a fun take on the villainesses of Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel! The Wickeds was entertaining and gives you a different perspective on these fairytales. It didn't go where I thought it was going, but I think that's what I like best about it.

The narrator did a great job differentiating the 3 main characters, and with the side characters as well. I was not familiar with her before this book, but I'll be looking into her backlist.

I'm definitely going to check out the other books in this twisted fairytale series!

Fun Retellling

I wasn't expecting much going into The Wickeds, but ended up liking it quite a bit. As far as fairy tale retellings go, this was good one. It was a short, fun read and I would definitely read more about the Wickeds and their families.

Interesting retelling

I would have preferred a more descriptive retelling of their versions, would have made for a longer and more enjoyable story. Ending was a bit rushed and didn't really make you feel anything was resolved.

We All End Up Being Our Mothers One Day

I liked it. Narrator Frankie Corzo did an excellent performance as all the characters and bringing the story alive in my mind's eye. I'll say this much, the ending was unexpected but this was a good short story with a different view point of classic wicked fairytale ladies we've come to know and hate. I've read other books with a skewed look at characters we have deem in fairytales as good or bad and some stories took a very humorous take a la Shrek and others were just dark *bizzaro world* like versions. (For those don't know about Bizzaro World or Superman's counter-part Bizzaro then Google it and you will understand what I mean)

I think this story had the beginnings of what could have been written into a little longer story and added more fairytale characters and drama. But in the end I think the story was meant as a warning that we too could end up like our mothers and be viewed as wicked or villainized by our own offsprings when trying to parent firmly. It is a crazy familial cycle that many have encountered. Only when we walk in a mile in our mother's shoes do we understand why they did some of the things they did for us and that it came from a good place and not out of spite.

Why isn’t this a full book? Loved it

Great idea we’ll done, I so wish this was a full length book! I’ll cross fingers for a “full version”

Odd retelling

A different take on the happily ever after. With focus on the evil Queen, the evil stepmother and mother gothel.

Weird. Very weird. Odd retelling.
