Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The incredible, Sunday Times best-selling follow-up to one of the most talked about books of the decade, The Salt Path.

Nature holds the answers for Raynor and her husband Moth.

After walking 630 miles homeless along the Salt Path, the windswept and wild English coastline now feels like their home.

And despite Moth's terminal diagnosis, against all medical odds, he seems revitalised in nature - outside, they discover that anything is possible.

Now, life beyond the Salt Path awaits. As they return to four walls, the sense of home is illusive and returning to normality is proving difficult - until an incredible gesture by someone who reads their story changes everything:

A chance to breathe life back into a beautiful but neglected farmhouse nestled deep in the Cornish hills; rewilding the land and returning nature to its hedgerows becomes their new path.

Along the way, Raynor and Moth learn more about the land that envelopes them, find friends both new and old, and of course, embark on another windswept adventure when the opportunity arises.

The Wild Silence is a luminous story of hope triumphing over despair, of the human spirit's instinctive connection to nature and of lifelong love prevailing over everything.

A great follow up to the Salt Path

Not as complete a story as the Salt Path and fewer surprises as we already know the players in the story but every bit as entertaining and enlightening. Looking forward to Ray’s next novel to see how things work out on the farm and with Moth.

Raynor Winn is a Winner for sure!

I have just finished listening to her second book which I really enjoyed being an outdoors and nature loving enthusiast all of my 77 years and now unable to venture forth with grace and strength any more. Still walking and grateful for that!
At the beginning of the book I had to really focus to understand and hear all the words spoken due to Raynor’s different speech habits! So glad I was patient and persisted.
Thank you for providing this second book treat by a very skilled and knowledgeable writer ..... so well educated in the affairs of the great outdoors and so very compassionate to Moth and others who were blessed to share in these journeys.

Prachtig boek!

Abridged version would be suggested.

The first book, the salt path, was great! There was a lot of excitement and a lot to be said. The sequel however seems to be much longer than needed. There’s too many musings. It seems I have a light into a personal diary of somebody who has too much time on their hands and likes to experiment with their vocabulary and adjectives. I would definitely be skeptical to read another. It is sad to write this review as the first for such an enjoyable experience.

The Wild Silence

Whilst I am more than impressed by the sheer pluck and energy of the Winns I did not find the book an easy listen. Raynor’s narration does not do the narrative justice because her idiosyncratic pronunciation of the letter L is a real and constant distraction. As a listener I found myself listening for the next mispronounced word. Whilst it may well have been advantageous for Winn to read her own writing it did not make for an enjoyable audio book in my opinion. As a narrative it was less compelling than The Salt Path whose impact is stunning. I am particularly influenced by the calibre of narrators and the impact they have.

Shame not read by Anne Reid

Loved the story, not the narrator. Anne Reid so much better on The Salt Path

as good as the salt path

I loved the salt path so much that I was frightened to read this sequel, terrified it would not live up to my expectations. It surpassed them. This is, yet again, not only a heart-warming true story but also an inspiration, a comfort and a positive force for anyone dealing with illness, loss or any other challenges or setbacks in their lives.

inspirational

listening to this author read her own words makes it that much more special. She has made me realise how fast my life has become and how I don't appreciate the beauty around me. Today I stopped and stood just looking and listening to everything around me....I still don't think I could really see the beauty, but I'm going to continue to try. A truly inspiring story and I wish her and her family happiness.

Narration not so great

I so loved The Salt Path...wonderful story and truly great narration from Anne Reid. I must say Raynor Winn is a better writer than narrator... rather spoilt this book.... which is a bit thin.

Great to hear more about Raynor and Moth’s life

Raynor’s engaging, honest recount of events in her life is moving, interesting and it’s a bonus to have her narrate her own book. I like her reflections on the land, nature, life itself, love and loss.... and of making the most of life. She’s genuinely an inspiring woman. She feels like a friend that I haven’t met.
I would recommend The Wild Silence to everyone that loved The Salt Path.

Bring back Anne Reid

I listen to a lot of audio books, and I find that the quality of the performance is really key to my understanding and enjoyment of the book. It is rare for an author to read their own work as well as an actor -- and this sadly is no exception. Anne Reid's interpretation of The Salt Path was superb. Winn, you words are inspirational but please stick to writing them, not reading them.

Another spiritually uplifting memoir from Winn

A wonderful account along a small branch of someone’s life told by Raynor Winn who has all her senses as wide open as her poetic heart. Uplifting. Godspeed Winn and Moth.

I loved this book almost as much as The Salt Path

I listened to both of Raynor Winn’s books on audible and the Salt Path stayed with me for a long time. I still think about their lives and that journey. I feel a calling to do a long walk of my own. When I heard she had another book I knew I had to listen. I just wish I had listened to her narrate The Salt Path, I enjoyed her narration much more. It felt more authentic or something. I hope Ray and Moth have many more years of adventure together 💜

Fabulous pace pitch to the narration. Something anyone who loves nature and long walking trip couldn't but help love.
