Publisher's Summary

Lilith grew up seeing and speaking with the dead, although she did not realize they were dead until her parents asked her to whom she was speaking with. It was the magic that came later when she reached puberty. She could not control the magic in those early years, so her parents had to move from Nazareth to Endor. The move was not far enough though, for it was not long before the rumors started.

A man walked through the doors of Lilith's magic shop one day. He was different. He was not afraid of the spirits, and he had a rudimentary ability to use magic. Their nightly meetings turned into more than palm readings and magic practice. She fell for Lamech and was in love in his arms. Still doubts nagged at the back of her mind. Why had she never seen him by day, and why had she never seen him eat? He always had a good excuse.

Was it another woman? She had to find out, so she followed him one night before dawn. He entered a cave, and what she found there was not what she had ever imagined, and it would change her life forever.

A Really Good Narrator

This is a fun Gothic tale. It mixes Christianity with Greek mythology and the narrator is super creepy. I honestly can see myself listening to this with all my goth friends on Halloween. I was surprised that Medusa make an appearance and the main antagonist is actually very good. I was on his side at the end because this is a tale of evil characters vs evil characters. I wish There was more of a resolution at the end and that is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Enthralling and suspenseful

The Witch of Endor is a triumph in storytelling and suspense. The characters are well-drawn and memorable, and the author weaves a rich and intricate tapestry of ancient mythology with macabre, good-versus-evil religious history and vampirism. The narrative is smart and provocative, without being clumsy or heavy-handed. The reader is left wanting more by RK Wheeler.

A Captivating Elixir of Ancient Myth and Scripture

"The Witch of Endor: Vampires," is a well-told story that feels both fresh and familiar. It chronicles a chapter in the story of Lilith, the witch of Endor, when she encounters Lamech. He is cursed as the first vampire for killing Cain, and this is but one of the fascinating ways the book weaves a new tapestry from threads of classical myth, legend, and biblical account.

The author is well versed in Judeo-Christian scripture and Greek mythology. Drawing on this ancient lore, he crafted a compelling tale that honors the themes and motifs of those original works. I found it an absorbing read and really satisfying in its exploration of morality, penance, and the power and limits of love through exquisitely flawed characters who find themselves in uncharted territory thanks to the overlapping origins of this magical world.

Beautifully written, passages like this one made me wish I had listened to the entire audiobook by candlelight:

"For the briefest moment, Lilith’s eyes met the fearful stare of her daughter’s. Lilith tried to convey all of her love in that one terrible second. Medusa’s gaze turned back to the bloodied claw that approached, an unavoidable doom. ‘No!’ Lilith cried out in anguish.

"The air paused in its journey as if the world itself were gasping at the impending scene. The lull caused the leaves on the trees at the top of the cliffs to go silent. The great owl on the dead branches near the pond turned its feathered head to look upon the field of strife. A shooting star streaked across the starry sky as it died in the Earth’s breath…."

I’m not a student of Greek myths or the Bible, but I found Wheeler’s narrative enthralling for its original take on traditional tales I have heard throughout my life. The echoes of proverbial characters and creatures sound familiar, but the story takes unexpected turns that impart an engaging twist on the past.

Original vampire story laced with so much more.

I wasn't expecting such a deep backstory to this vampite mage story. The writer uses legends, lore and even scripture to enrich the storyline and characters. Im really looking forward to the next books by Dr Wheeler.
The narrator takes a chapter or 2 to get use to but he does a good job. Halfway through I realized his accent adds a little mystical element to the book.

Couldn't even get half way through it

The narration sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. horrible echo and quality. The narrator may be talented but the recording is distracting. The story itself was not enough to capture my attention.

Good Entertainment

This was a charming diversion of a cozy mystery. While the resolution of the mystery is no great challenge, the setting and characters are delightful. A quick entertainment.
