Story
My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. Arthur's still bitter and broken after his last lover stabbed him in the back, and the last thing he needs is another brush with evil. When he agrees to escort the wandering necromancer north, he's just doing a public service. But he never expected Shae to be so clingy. Or distractingly attractive.

Publisher's Summary
A former FBI agent is partnered with the enemy in this suspenseful male/male shifter romance from debut author Charlie Adhara.
Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton's plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park.
Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. But as far as Cooper's concerned, it's failing. As they investigate a series of mysterious deaths unlike anything they've seen, every bone in Cooper's body is suspicious of his new partner - even when Park proves himself as competent as he is utterly captivating.
When more people vanish, pressure to solve the case skyrockets. And though he'd resolved to keep things professional, Cooper's friction with Park soon erupts...into a physical need that can't be contained or controlled. But with a body count that's rising by the day, werewolves and humans are in equal danger. If Cooper and Park don't catch the killer soon, one - or both - of them could be the next to go.
Contains mature themes.

NARRATOR DOES NO JUSTICE TO THE STORYLINE
The author put together a good storyline except (perhaps I missed it when reading the intro) I was unaware that the story had strong homosexual content including vivid sexual content of this nature. I'm sure that is a good thing for many but did not fit my elective reading content well. We just fast forwarded and moved on.
The narrator has a good voice for this work but reads so fast that sentences are often run on and it takes away from the story tremendously.

Can’t wait for more
This book showed up on my “like others I have read” section and I’m glad it did.
This story was awesome. It was able to explain how werewolves are around us and hiding while also explain how the BSI was established and run. The author was able to keep me in suspense, not knowing what might happen next to our hero’s, or what they might find out. I was excited to see there are two more books in this series as the ending seemed a bit too quick to wrap up.
I didn’t like however the speed the narrator used to read. At times it was sure hard to keep up when they would slip from on character to the next, one exchange to the next. He was able to give more feeling in some situations then I was expecting which was helpful. I also didn’t enjoy how the same tone and pitch were used for most of the characters. It was hard to distinguish who was talking at given times and I had to go back and relisten to entire chapters to make sure I understood who said what and to who they it to.
I hope the same narrator can come back for the next two books and add some voices and separation so the characters are easier to tell apart.

Great story...poor narration
If it were not for the fact that I had read this book prior to getting the audio version, I'm not sure I would have struggled through the horrific narration. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Park and Dayton are mesmerizing...I remembered from reading. As I listened, I compared Bloomquist's reading style as that of listening to your computer read a book...drone and sad. But let me give you a spoiler though...as bad a Bloomquist's narration is...he gets better in the series...in fact, he finds his way and is much, much better. Perhaps this was his first book to provide narration for. Either way...it's a well written story...a fan of Adhara's style.

A good fit for FBI procedural, and Cooper's voice
Book 1 of my favorite m/m series is on audiobook?!?!?!?! I could not give Amazon my money fast enough.
Pros: The matter-of-fact narration style works well for an FBI detective story. The voice of prickly Cooper, who feels off balance and on the defense for a good part of the book, feels right. As does the lighter, slightly amused voice for Park. I liked that they went with a relatively unknown narrator. Some narrators like Joel Leslie or Nick Russo are awesome but so ubiquitous within the genre that I can get the voices confused with the many books they've already done.
Cons: For a few side characters' voices, the narrator speaks the dialogue quite quickly. It adds distinctiveness (some people really are 'fast talkers'), but I had to rewind a few times when I missed something. The two steamy scenes have the same matter-of-fact narration, and aren't overly sexy. I'm okay with that. This is meant to be a mystery, not erotica. But a little part of me misses the dirty voices of more popular romance narrators :)
The next two books are much more romantic, and certainly sexier than book 1. I hope the narrator embraces that side of it if he continues. Everything else works great!

A Little Adjustment Goes A Long Way
I struggled to get into the rhythm of this story at first, the narration was a little more fast paced then what I'm used to. I've never changed the settings on an audiobook before, but after a little experimenting I found changing the pace to .90 was just perfect. Once I did that, everything was great. Good story, good narration, already bought the next in the series.

How things should work, but with werewolves
The problems faced by werewolves in this romantic thriller are pretty much straight from the headlines of how US cops treat black suspects - as aggressive, magically lethal fighting demons who are all the same and the only reason they haven’t killed yet is not having got around to it so brutally arresting or killing one is just fine, guilty or no. Unlike in our misogynoir reality, in this book the upper levels of the policing forces think that treating werewolves like US police treat black men is wrong. It shows how disrespectful digs at a group of people aren’t just “blowing off steam” from a stressful job, but are indicators that someone can’t be trusted with power & force over those they denigrate. Along the way, there’s a nice little mystery of missing werewolves with some hopes they will be found alive, and a cautious, slow burn romance. It was a nice book where the good guys get the guy and support from the top brass, so a fantasy…
POV is all Cooper, the human. I’m more used to romances that trade off POV between leads, but mysteries often don’t. Once I realized it would be single POV, I settled into it. I recommend Wolf at the Door & plan to read the sequel.
Steam: low smolder. Some naked details on page but much less graphic than average.
Narration: Narrator speaks quickly. Generally I prefer that, but I already listen at a quicker speed so it took me a moment to adjust. I pondered slowing the rate but stuck it out and was fine. Pleasant voice. There were a few places where subtle shifts in audio [quality/pitch/resonance/cadence?] indicated patched in corrections but I VASTLY prefer that to hearing errors so no marks off for being slightly less than seamless.

What a damn shame
I thought i'd found a series to listen to and would have bought everything. Shifters and law enforcement? Absolutely - but the narrator was awful. Like spoil the story bad. He kept speeding up and slowing down. Every voice was exactly the same and his idea of characterization was the volume level

Great book, disappointing narrator
I love this book series but the narration is joyless. He reads as if he has a time limit; it seemed fast at first but being British I thought possibly it was my perception of the accent, but no, he actually speeds up at times! Characters are rarely given their own voice and if they are it's inconsistant. Found it very dificult to determine who was speaking at times and had to frequentlly rewind in order to follow the story; I've read the book about three times the problem is all with the narration. There's no time for expression or emotion. Going purely by the audio it'd be hard to connect to the characters or story.
While I recommend the book series the audio is a big disappointment, it's listen-to-able and but that's it. It seems the same person is narrating the next book so it's doubtful I'll be getting it.

Change the narration speed down & it's all good
This book has a problem with mastering. I reported it to Audible and Tantor, who ignored me. It's a shame because it's the first book in a fantastic series. The narration that was uploaded was sped up, I have no idea why an audio engineer would do that. If you change your narration speed on the Audible app to 0.85x then the narration is fine. This is a great book, but frustrating at normal speed.

This is one of those series I listen to over and over again. Mid-angst, the plot moves along at the perfect pace whilst you get to know the characters and the narrator only enhanced this.
The foreshadowing is subtle keeping you on the edge of your seat at times and the characters complex. And to top it all you get a HFN!
Definitely worth a credit.

Great story, terrible narration.
I really wish this somebody else could narrate this book. Adhara created Park and Cooper and this narrator just killed them with his voice.

mm mystery/suspense
I enjoyed the mystery/suspense of The Wolf at the Door - This series has been on my TBR for a while now, and I decided to use some of my credits listening to the series. The performance of the narrator was okay - he was very monotone at times and didn't differentiate a lot between the characters, but I was still able to easily follow what was occurring across the storyline.

Thoroughly enjoyed story
I thoroughly enjoyed the story I was hesitant at first because I dislike the cover but after a recommendation from a Facebook group I gave it ago now I am a huge fan. My one note is I wish that the voices differentiated a little bit more then they do but that’s the only criticism.
I recommend if you’re on the fence to have this ago

One of the better shifter novels!
Sound plot structure, solid character development! Moved away from the usual tropes associated with shifters, well edited and coherent narrative. It held my attention until the - unexpected - end. Narrator had laconic delivery that suited the premise and style of the text. I will definitely look at other titles by this author.
