Publisher's Summary

New York Times best seller

A heartwarming novel about secrets of youth rediscovered, hometown memories, and the magical moments in ordinary lives, from the beloved author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

“A gift, a blessing and a triumph...celebrates the bonds of family and friends - and the possibilities of recovery and renewal.” (The Free Lance-Star)

Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?" But sadly, as the railroad yards shut down and Whistle Stop became a ghost town, nothing was left but boarded-up buildings and memories of a happier time. Then one day, Bud decides to take one last trip, just to see what has become of his beloved Whistle Stop. In so doing, he discovers new friends, as well as surprises about Idgie's life, about Ninny Threadgoode and other beloved Fannie Flagg characters, and about the town itself. He also sets off a series of events, both touching and inspiring, that change his life and the lives of his daughter and many others. Could these events all be just coincidences? Or something else? And can you really go home again?

Truly lovely!!!

Fannie Flagg and her books just hit the spot!Especially this one! It reminds me so much of my grandparents and the stories they would tell and how fun it was to go to their house. This is a feel good book! I found myself smiling, and laughing out loud, as I listened. If you loved Fried Green Tomatos, then this is for you!! It catches you up on ALL the characters from it!!! YEAH!!!

Fast enjoyable read

I was looking for a book that was interesting and that I could listen to in the car with my kids. This book delivered. The story was wonderful, and it catches you up to date on characters you already love from Fried Green Tomatoes. My children are teens and they even loved it and didn't complain at all. I could hear them laughing from time to time from the back seats st things that happen in the story. So glad I purchased this one.

Could have been an epilogue

It was nice to catch up on all the characters from the first book, but it was more of an epilogue and there was no real storyline. Also, Ms. Flagg reads so slowly it drove me crazy until I realized I could turn up the narration speed.

Disappointing.

Loathed it. Was hoping for a plot-driving story, instead a bunch of snippets tied together.

In the beginning I wasn’t for sure where the book was going but then I was hooked! Another amazing book by Ms. Flagg; and there better be a follow-up to this book!

Fannie Flagg does it again!

I loved this book and how the characters tie together families and stories from other FF books. I almost feel like I have another family who reside in Whistlestop, Florida and Alabama. Reading FF is like going home, wherever that may be for you.❤

A bit neat

All threads tied up a bit too neatly but a fun and enjoyable story. I need fifteen more words

Heartwarming but not a top pick

An enjoyable book to listen to but I have a few critiques - the story felt way too neatly tied up at the end, which at least made sense of the disparate threads leading up to the denouement. A bit too much tell versus show at times.

With those niggles, I still enjoyed listening to this novel as read by the author. I loved her Southern accent, even if she seemed to pause at strange points in the sentences at times. The story was a cozy escape - not too demanding and ultimately winsome.

PS I had to search online to make sure that the author wrote Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe - she did!

Loved it!

Fans of Fried Green Tomatoes will love this book, it covers what happens to the original characters later on in life, revisiting old stories in more detail and introduces some new characters with the same heartwarming sentiment as the first book. The narrator/author does another great job of pulling you into her world with her warm southern charm.
