Publisher's Summary

No commitments. No expectations. No way this could possibly go wrong…right?

Former special-ops soldier Sam Brand is used to getting what he wants. What he wants is to unbutton the buttoned-down, sweet, and shy Dahlia McGregor. He’s hot to find her wild side. She’s eager to let him explore it. So he makes his proposition - no strings, no hurt feelings, and no promises - save for one: she’ll have the time of her life.

After a broken engagement, Lia’s looking to someday find the right man and settle down. That’s some day. Now it’s all about the night. A hot, meaningless fling with a magnificently weathered blue-eyed stud like Sam couldn’t hurt: he’s sexy, and sure he’s arrogant, but best of all, he’s here. In other words, he’s perfect…for now.

But when Sam is wounded in the line of duty and left in Lia’s tender loving care, all bets are off. Because the more time they spend together, the more it becomes clear: this “one night” deal is getting steamier and lasting longer than they counted on. It started as a fun little game. Is it possible they could be playing for keeps?

2.5 Stars for me!
My rating range of this story... 1 - 3.25
If significant, why? Both MCs are frustrating
Biggest deduction? 1 Star - the H

h (Lia) = 5/10

Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? YES - example - 5 orgasms in maybe 10 minutes... beyond fantasy realm!

The back story... The blurb says it all

Romance or Gist: I saw very little until the last 20% of the story. It was mostly the H talking dirty and the h swooning so bad that she abandoned her brain and would have sex any way he wanted.

The drama explosion... His past comes to town
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Ugh
Was it OTT? Very
Separation involved? No
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Huh?

Final Notes... The H is beyond a ladies man and can get all women, no matter their relationship status... You know, perfect looking. The h is a bit down on herself and takes an instant dislike to the H (I know, right, how can she hate Mr. Perfect). It doesn't take long and she takes him to the barn to have sex with him.

When the H reflects on her, she wasn't a memorable f&#k and he hasn't thought about her. The H is a complete a$$ through 90% of the story and, in my eyes, is not worth her time.

The h is mostly a sopping wet floor mat throughout the story and no matter what, gives in to the H whenever he desires her.

Just no!

HEA or HFN? Who knows

❤️❤️❤️

This is my fave ❤️ the suave protector and the broken romantic. This hits home, for many of us I'd think, with the current dating scene and what a losing lottery it is. Cringey. Aside from that, loving Sam's denial and manipulation schemes; too funny.

Need to be realistic about love

I didn’t like the way the male lead spoke to the female lead, and it seems like the more he treated her like crap, the more she wanted him. Telling someone that you love them right after you treat them like crap should not be glorified. And that’s my issue with some of these “romance” novels. The writers tell the readers the like that it’s ok for leader male or females to treat each other like crap and it’s ok. Writers need to be somewhat more realistic about love, tell a story about love that doesn’t have to be about hero or heroine treating each other bad.

Maybe my favorite of the series.

I’m still loving all of Natasha Anders work. And I realize that Ingeborg Riedmaier gave this series a wonderful flavor of S Africa. I understood just how subtle her accents were when she did the Southern American drawl for Brand’s top employee. I’d like to see a book with him as a main character. Is that a plan?
Love you, Natasha!

Good Fun!

I enjoyed this book. I did feel though that with the nature of Sam’s profession, I expected a more exciting ending, but it still entertained me.

Body guard by another name

This was a good book but I wanted more action and less wobbling between the two main characters' emotions.
