Story
Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

He’s tough, independent, shallow, and always looking for a good time. Then his father is murdered. Sheriff Robert Trent, was the longtime chief law enforcement officer of Lodge Pole County Montana. He was stern, fair, honest, and dependable.

Publisher's Summary
When a mystery writer from New York shows up in Sheriff Bud Shumway's little Utah town, he doesn’t think much about it, other than to note that she seems to be avoiding him. But when a famous opera singer, also from New York, shows up shortly thereafter, Bud begins to worry that fact might follow fiction after he discovers that the writer’s latest book is about the murder of an opera singer.
Join Bud as he follows the pair into the wild and remote Yellow Cat Flats, a landscape that’s anything but flat, trying to prevent a potential murder while attempting to solve one already committed - all while dealing with lost tourists, a car-theft ring, a pack of rock hounds, a couple of well-seasoned desert rats with their own bootleg radio show, and trying to train his dog, Lindie, in the fine art of search and rescue.
This is book 12 in the Bud Shumway Mystery series.

Narrator used wrong voices for characters
Love the story but the narrator used wrong voice for characters. Cal had a deep baritone voice previous book when he hit his head.
This Cal sounded like Howie.
Narrator did a spectacular in previous books.
