Publisher's Summary

Stella's mama never should've put Stella on the church prayer list. With Stella's 27th birthday coming up fast, Nancy desperately wants to see her daughter married and giving her grandbabies. Petitioning heaven seems like a surefire way to get it done. But in Cadillac, Texas, where the gossip's hotter than the city's famous jalapeño peppers, it isn't long before all hell breaks loose.

Heather, the bossy leader of the church's Prayer Angels, thinks a summer ball will get Stella and the town's other single gals paired off. But nobody can tell redheaded spitfire Stella what to do - not her mama, not Heather, and not even the sexy beau Stella's been seeing in secret. Together, Stella, her best friends Charlotte and Piper, and the loyal customers of the Yellow Rose Beauty Shop hatch a good old-fashioned scheme to sabotage the ball. But will it wreck Stella's relationship with her mama forever? And what will the church folk think when Stella reveals the identity of her mystery man?

Disappointing, could have been much better

The story is good but it could have been told better and I did not care for the narrator. Every other word is damn, hell or shit which was completely unnecessary. In addition, all the cursing did not fit with the setting of a small, southern town in Texas. The story centers around the ladies of the town church. I feel like the book was written by a novice author.

Insulting book to Christian women.

Would you try another book from Carolyn Brown and/or Laural Merlington?

Absolutely not

Has The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laural Merlington?

No idea

What character would you cut from The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop?

Agnes

Any additional comments?

I've been around Christian women all of my life. The profanity used in this book is out of place. I heard more profanity in this book than a lifetime of being around women. And a Christian pastor would not deceive a board of elders to get hired. This author is clueless and insulting. The book would have been passable if she had not centered it around a church.

Great southern romance but lose the song lyrics

Any additional comments?

Find my Daughter a husband, this is the sign at the local church that gets put up after a prayer request. Needless to say things did not go as planned, daughter was upset with her mama and good intentions were quickly turned into bad ideas. This story was filled with good old Southern charm, the narrator did a great job keeping us in the southern mindset. I think the main reason I enjoyed the book so much was due to the narrator, when I focused on the actual wording of the book it lost some of it's charm. I think the author tried to hard to throw in all the cliches possible. I also hate when song lyrics take up most of a chapter, oh how he sang to her.... It's not your work, I have no problem with a song line being thrown out there, or a song title but lets not loose an entire chapter to a song.

Tough to even finish

What disappointed you about The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop?

Story and characters lacked depth. Predictable, simplistic and boring. I had a hard time finishing the book.

Has The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

How could the performance have been better?

I understand that the narrator was trying to give the characters authentic dialect and accents, but it was painful. It was irritating to listen to and the improper use of grammar drove me nuts.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. Poorly written drivel.

wonderfully awesome

Would you consider the audio edition of The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop to be better than the print version?

did not the print version

What other book might you compare The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop to and why?

I loved the comparison to steel magnolias.

Have you listened to any of Laural Merlington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

first time for Ms . Merlington's reading I thought she captured the voices very well. My parents were from a small Texas town and my mother never lost her twang.

If you could rename The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop, what would you call it?

The name was just great would not change a thing.

Any additional comments?

laughed and cried and had a glorious time with all the characters in the story.

A very good story

Would be five stars but for it getting boring listening to far too much not needed talk in the many meetings , saying that I hope there is a follow-up book .
