Publisher's Summary

A heart is a dangerous thing to steal.

From New York Times best-selling author Lexi Ryan, Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes.

Brie would do anything before making a deal with the Fae; death is better than their vicious schemes. But when her sister is taken by the sadistic king of the Unseelie court, there is nothing Brie wouldn't do to get her back - including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the rival Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for the Seelie Prince, Ronan - a prince who's not quite as wicked as she once thought. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. But as Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she finds herself struggling to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty...and with her heart.

Off-putting narration

I was intrigued by the story, but the way the narration was done was distracting to a point that I bought a Kindle copy of this book and quit the audiobook altogether. I'm not sure if it's the narrator's fault or the producers, but it's just bad - overdramatic and without any rhythm to it. Men's parts, in particular, were bad - felt like the narrator wanted to sound deep and husky (?) but it just feels flat and forced. The fake British accent doesn't help either.

After I switched to Kindle, the book reads far better than when you listen to it. Feels like a different book. I normally don't mind narration, but this is one of the worst ones I've ever listened to. Avoid the audio and go for the Kindle / physical book instead.

A poor mans ACOTAR

I hated the lead character, she was weak and whiny and this was amplified by the narrator. All she did was whine about everything, not the strong female lead I was expecting based on other reviews claiming it was better than ACOTAR.. The narrator has a terrible fake British accent which just made all the male fae sound...well...fake.
I really wanted to like this book, I made it to the end in the hopes that it would just get better. It certainly had the foundation to be a great story, but the constant ‘poor me’ just got tiresome.

WOW

If you want to read something just as good as the cruel prince then read this. If you want to read something like a court of thorns and roses without the racist author and no POC & LGBT representation, THEN READ THIS!!!!
It’s so amazing.
The characters, the plot, the representation, the description- it is literally indescribable.
I cant wait for book 2.
A must read!

Great read

Enjoyed this book immensely. Yes definitely a perfect balance of Sarah Maas amazing work and the incomparable works of the cruel prince series of Holly Black. Can’t wait for the next instalment to this fascinating story. So very intriguing of the fairy machinations and their whims. No one is truly absolved of evil but surely goodness will triumph in the end. Great to see Brie find her own voice even as she makes mistakes.

awesome 👌

This one hooked me. Now I'm waiting for the next book.
A few flaws in the storyline where I wondered why the character didn't think of this or that.

The ending was great but now I'm left waiting. ...sigh. Bring it on.

Eye rolling cliche

I gave it a good go but I could only get through to chapter 14. This story is on the same level as twilight with its eye-rolling cliche.
Ordinary plain girl in love triangle, two man princes are obsessed with her even though she acts like a brat. And this concept of 'I'm not like other girls" keeps reappearing.

I bought the book immediately because the summary said it was like a court of throns and roses. its nothing like that book...

Fantastic

Although i tend to get annoyed with an unintelligent female lead who can’t see all the things we the reader can see and predict (or at least most of them) - i thought this was a great story, well written and thoroughly enjoyable!

Really disappointing, sorry to say

This felt like a Mills & Boon with the merest hint of a plot. It's primarily taken up with the main character fawning and whining over the two main male characters. The actual plot had potential but it didn't develop well at all. The narration was also poor. Delivered mostly in one tone of voice, sounding overly earnest or desperate, and not varying with different situations.

Surprisingly… GREAT!

Okay, so I normally hate love triangles. But, I found myself enjoying it in this book. Given the plot, it actually makes sense. It’s not something just added in for drama like many authors do, instead it’s woven into the story.

Don’t get me wrong, this book is nothing new. You’ve probably read something similar before. HOWEVER, I still found myself loving it!
Even though I literally predicted everything that happened and all the plot twists (except the absolute last one about who-being-what). I should have seen it coming honestly (see I knew this ‘who’ was rotten from the start, but thought the betrayal would be something other than what is ended up being).

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a nice well written book, but are not picky about originality, you’ll probably like this story. However, if you only like books when introduce original ideas, maybe look elsewhere. I’m a bit of both. Sometimes you want something new and sometimes you want your comfort novels… this one’s the latter.

In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for book 2. Now the real question: why does this book have me reeling to find out what happens in book 2, when the first was so predictable? Well it comes down to this: it could actually end up going opposite to how I want it. Ah… now I remember why I hate love triangles.
