Story
Once upon a time, I was simply Veronica Neill. Daughter, sister, phoenix. But now I’m all alone, and life as an avian shifter and "acquirer of fantastical things" is dangerously sexy and fun. At least it is until someone beats me to my latest mark, and I'm blamed for a gruesome murder I most certainly didn't commit. Now I've got a choice to make. I can get taken in by the hotter-than-hell agent sent by the Death Enforcement Agency, or wait for my bloodsucking client to realize I've failed at his job. I don’t like either door. Time to track down the real killer and clear my name.

Publisher's Summary
She'll steal anything if it means finding the cure for a deadly strain of magic.
Ever since the ancient Ceteri “blessed” Earth’s inhabitants with Thaumaturgy, Lee has been able to enter the Liminal Realm, where she can influence the world without being seen or heard. But each time she uses her magic, it tears her cells further apart. Like a cancer, the magic eats away at her from the inside out.
Fortunately, her ability makes her invaluable to the thieving crew she works for. Unfortunately, the crew is going broke. Lee is determined not to go down with them. She just has to steal enough to buy the coordinates for the Ceteri’s home world and convince them to heal her, even if it means losing her abilities. But when the crew hires on a new bit of muscle to help out with a last-ditch heist, Lee finds herself being tracked and her motives questioned by the crew.
To make matters worse, the FBI is hot on Lee’s trail, and they’re closing in. Racing against arrest and her own death, can Lee reach the Ceteri in time?
Fans of the Dresden Files and the Isabella Hush series will devour Bree Moore’s dark, new magic heist series.

An awesome listen
This is an urban fantasy with an unusual plot. That people develop magical abilities that can have a downside to them. The main character Lee is a liminal that can travel on the lay lines and being a thief, it is a gift that more then 1 person would like to exploit. This book has paranormal, action and a little romance and a heroine that takes no flack from anyone when she sets her mind no one can change it and it gets her into more then one difficult situation. This book kept my interest until it was done. Will definitely look for the next

Interesting Book!
Part of what makes the book is the narration. I’m always up for listening to a book when the narration is done well. I enjoyed the storyline and how some moments may seem predictable, but there is a little bit of a twist to make a difference. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Enjoyed it!
This is the first book by this author and I honestly enjoyed it. It was different from a lot of the magic books out there. I will say it got a little slow for me in the middle but picked up again by the end. The narration was good and I enjoyed it the whole way though. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Magic, mythical creatures and plenty of secrets
Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Beautifully narrated by Krys Janae, the complex and magical urban world that Lee and her intrepid friends fellow thief crew inhabit. Being a thief isn't an easy job, as every mission is filled with a variety of dangers; for Lee, stealing to survive goes beyond just keep the crew she's a part of stable: the magic she's been " blessed" with is slowing killing her... and Lee needs to find the mysterious Ceteri beings to plead them to remove the gift. Lee and her friends get themselves involved with bizarre secrets; mad scientist's hauntingly dark experiments and memorable fierce mythical creatures guarding precious magical items. A wondrously epic beginning for this series, highly recommended.

An intriguing heist story
I heard "magic heist story" and I was sold to at least try the book. And I enjoyed it! The different sort of magical world, in that most everyone is looking to get rid of their magical talents, was a pleasant bonus.
There is a bit of a steep learning curve for figuring the world out as you go. I normally love just being dropped in a world and figuring out the rules as I go, but this book really hits the ground running and the first few chapters I was a little bewildered. But once you get your feet under you, it's wonderful.
I enjoyed Lee as a main character, partly because she is very much a flawed character. Sometimes I wanted to hug her and sometimes I wanted to shake her, but I absolutely always had her back. The supporting cast with the crew were good, I would have loved to see them fleshed out a little bit more, but what I did get of them was fun.
If, like me, you love a good thief/heist story, you'll be well satisfied with this book. There's a lot else going on besides the big heist, but the smaller jobs along the way are interesting too, and it all comes together well.
While there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end to help you dive into book 2 it does wrap up the arc of this book nicely, which I always appreciate.
Basically, if you're looking for a fun, fast-paced, heist story set in a unique urban fantasy setting, you'll like this book.

Unique story
Wow, this storyline was incredibly unique. I’ve never read a book like this and I loved it! Lee has some pretty cool powers, don’t we all wish in another life we could inherit special powers like that? Well not Lee, she is trying to find a cure to get rid of it before it kills her! The characters with “powers” were all fun and different, each with different powers with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Another wonderful quality of this audiobook is that the narrator is amazing! She has a really nice voice which makes it easy to follow along and picture the world as you listen.

A Great Paranormal Thriller
This was my first experience with Bree Moore's work, and I enjoyed it very much. Although the setting was St. Louis, the paranormal elements were fascinating and complicated. I liked the fact that there were unusual fantastical creatures found within the tale. The characters were dark and complex, and I enjoyed the interaction of the crew members. There were many twists and turns that kept the book exciting. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and I recommend it to others who enjoy this genre. Krys Janae's narration was great and kept the book entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Surprising take on magic
This book was... something else. I love action-packed fantasy, and this book is definitely that. We get to follow Lee's adventures while she tries to... get rid of her magic! And this is what makes this book different: magic has genuine downsides (it's compared with a cancer), people usually don't like/can't function properly with their abilities, and to top it all off, the origin of said abilities is a bit more sci-fi than fantasy. It was an interesting combo from this point of view.
My only dislikes were this: (1) it would have been nice to have the world explained a bit at the beginning; when I heard "liminal" first it was kinda hard to get the meaning. (2) The narrator is just... boring. She is definitely not a voice actress, because the overall tone is kinda flat and she either couldn't or chose not to give differentiating voices to the characters. Yes, men have a lower tone than women. But nothing besides that! Women's voices are almost the same with the narrator voice. It really bugged me.

Fantastic world building
Thief of Magic is the first book in the Shadowed Minds series by Bree Moore and what an intriguing world that has been built! Our FMC Lee is one of the Earths people who has been ‘blessed’ by the Ceteri with thaumaturgy to enter the Liminal Realm. Unfortunately this blessing comes with a sting in its tail every time she uses her powers it eats away at her. This book was filled with action, adventure and brilliant world building and characters. I listened to this on audible on a little 1.2 speed as was a little slower narration than I preferred but this made it perfect! 🖤

Enjoyable!
Thief of Magic, the first book in the Shadow Minds series, is a wonderfully written YA fantasy with elements of urban and sci-fi. The story is well-written and well-plotted, with a fascinating premise. Moreover, Bree Moore has done a fantastic job with world-building; I was definitely intrigued by the various unique and imaginative creatures and characters. The main cast is well-developed, colourful, and appealing. The storyline is totally engaging and entertaining; I'm certainly looking forward to finding out what comes next.
Krys Janae did an excellent job with the narration, capturing the diversity in the characters, breathing life into them and the story. If your looking for an entertaining YA fantasy, Thief of Magic is a great pick.

Lee was such an entertaining character she was strong in some parts but obviously the stresses she was facing made this harder for her to maintain this strength. Im excited to see what the future holds for Lee as she truely did capture my attention and interest.

Thief of Magic
I had a hard time getting into the story to start with and felt it was dragging. I however kept pushing forward and finished the book the last quarter of the story was very intense and fun. A few characters surprised me with their loyalty and disloyalty. Nice narration.

Fantasy at its Best
I absolutely loved this audiobook which I received in exchange for an honest review. Narration was brilliant and it’s an absolute page turner. Urban fantasy at its best, with elements of magic and even a feeling of sci-fi thrown in (bit of an X-men vibe!). I’m not going to detail what it’s about as others already have. It’s enough to say that it’s fast paced, enjoyable with a whole host of engaging characters. I also have a feeling there’s going to be some romance as well. A must read!

Great storyline
This book has so much more to the storyline than I first thought. Not only do these characters have very unique powers but they also bring lighthearted personalities as well. Well written. An amazing performance from Krys.
