Publisher's Summary
The serial killer isn't on trial. He's on the jury.
Hollywood actor Robert Soloman stands accused of the brutal stabbings of his wife and her lover, but he is desperately pleading that he had nothing to do with it. This is the trial of the century, and the defence want Eddie Flynn on their team.
The biggest case Eddie has ever tried before, he decides to take it on despite the overwhelming evidence that Robert is guilty. As the trial starts, Eddie becomes sure of Robert's innocence, but there's something else he is even more sure of - that there is something sinister going on in the jury box.
Because of this, he is forced to ask: what if the killer isn't on the stand? What if he's on the jury?

I love mystery and court dramas. Steve Cavanagh and Adam Sims make a mean team! Well worth listening to.

Just WOW!
What a superb, complex and very different thriller!
I loved the way the story switched between the two main characters, and the complexity of the plot line just raised the bar even higher for me. I can't recall reading a book with so many twists and turns!
I had this recommended to me, and I'm very glad I followed up on that recommendation. I'll make sure I add Steve Cavanagh's other work to my wish list.
For me, this was something so very different to my usual fare, and it simply blew me away.
Can't recommend enough!
Great narration from Adam Sims.

Flawed
The reading of this audiobook is good. The story is a take on the serial killer genre with a few novel ideas, though they are as much in need of suspension of disbelief as most of the genre. That’s pretty much what to expect for this sort of thing so go prepared!
Where the wheels come off is the lack of research in some areas. It’s probably a minority of readers who will be irked by the fatuous consideration of injuries, stopping bleeding and anatomy of joints, but I can’t believe any reader will feel the courtroom scenes have any credibility at all. A detective prosecution witness who is shown before and after to be a dim thug, suddenly finds eloquence and o instead of giving evidence of observations, interprets ideas about evidence, testifies to hearsay and provides commentary about events that he did not observe. Almost as unbelievable is the hero
defence lawyer, purportedly sharp and assertive and the fair-minded judge both let this run on without comment.
At this stage the author seems to want to get to the end, so instead of what could have been the surgical destruction of forensic “evidence” we skip past that and rush to some rather facile bits of police revenge foolishness, confirming the stupidity of the momentarily eloquent corrupt detective.
I think that with a bit of feedback from an editor, to balance the detail of narrative in the first and last halves of the book, and a bit less assumption on the gullibility of readers, this could have been quite good. As it is there are flaws that are not really excusable. If you watch Judge Judy you’ll be critical of the level ouuuf legal expertise shown here. That’s a pretty low hurdle.

My first Eddie Flynn book
Where have I been whilst this series has been around? How I’ve missed it is a mystery! But although this was my first book in the series it won’t be my last! It really grabbed my attention from the first page and I knew by chapter three I was loving it. It was a story full of twists and turns, peopled with clever good guys and equally clever bad guys. Some to love and some to hate, but all well padded characters. I need to go back now and start at book no one.

Put it on your wish list
Whatever the equivalent of a page-turner is for an audiobook, this was it. Enjoyed every minute and the narrator was perfect. I could visualise everything that was being described - even the gory bits!
A must-read.

Really Enjoyable
This was a great book, easy to listen to and great narration. It is the first in the series that I have read/listened to and will definitely seek out more books by Steve Cavanagh, a talented author and other books voiced by this skilful narrator.

Amazing. Best thriller I've read in years.
This was a thrill ride from start to finish. Cavanagh has shown he is up with the best crime writers by producing a white knuckle experience where you have no idea what is coming on the next page.

superb!
I don't often leave reviews for things like this, but felt I had to on this occasion. Thirteen is absolutely fantastic! Lots of great courtroom action, as well as getting the viewpoint from a number of characters. It's a bit of a cliche to say I just wanted to keep listening, but I really did. I ended up having a couple of very late nights because I just wanted to hear what happened next!
Narration was really good, have no complaints there.
One of the best courtoom/crime books I've come across!

Absolutely BRILLIANT!
I have never read anything by Steve Cavanagh before, and this story was riveting from start to finish. Fab tempo, great writing style and believable characters. Adam Sim's reading style matched the book perfectly - crisp, clear and full of character.

Poor audio at crucial part.
I enjoyed this book until the audio became so bad around Ch 58 that trying to decipher what was being said detracted completely from the overall enjoyment.
The author had gradually built up the suspense which was lost/ ruined trying to understand with the constant breakup of the tape.
Good narration for part which was not skipping, juddering or unbroken.
