Story
Seventeen-year-old cynic Saoirse Clarke isn't looking for a relationship. But when she meets mischievous Ruby, that rule goes right out the window. Sort of. Because Ruby has a loophole in mind: a summer of all the best cliché movie montage dates, with a definite ending come fall - no broken hearts, no messy breakup. It would be the perfect plan, if they weren’t forgetting one thing about the Falling in Love Montage: when it's over, the characters have fallen in love...for real.

Emmy Harlow is a witch but not a very powerful one - in part because she hasn't been home to the magical town of Thistle Grove in years. Her self-imposed exile has a lot to do with a complicated family history and a desire to forge her own way in the world, and only the very tiniest bit to do with Gareth Blackmoore, heir to the most powerful magical family in town and casual breaker of hearts and destroyer of dreams.

Story
Seventeen is nothing like Codi Teller imagined. She’s never crashed a party, never stayed out too late. She’s never even been kissed. And it’s not just because she’s gay. It’s because she and her two best friends, Maritza and JaKory, spend more time in her basement watching Netflix than engaging with the outside world. So when Maritza and JaKory suggest crashing a party, Codi is highly skeptical. Those parties aren’t for kids like them. They’re for cool kids. Straight kids. But then, Codi stumbles upon one of those cool kids, Ricky, kissing another boy.

Meet Daisy Winters. She's an offbeat 16-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part-time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who's nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her to join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond. While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince's roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride.

Story
For cynical 23-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures.

Princess Aurora. The last heir to Briar’s throne. Kind. Gracious. The future queen her realm needs. One who isn’t bothered that I am Alyce, the Dark Grace, abhorred and feared for the mysterious dark magic that runs in my veins. Humiliated and shamed by the same nobles who pay me to bottle hexes and then brand me a monster. Aurora says I should be proud of my gifts. That she...cares for me. Even though a power like mine was responsible for her curse. But with less than a year until that curse will kill her, any future I might see with Aurora is swiftly disintegrating

Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She's achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she's sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people's pets. Has the charity made off with her boss's generous donation? And, who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

Publisher's Summary
In this gripping, romantic sequel to These Witches Don't Burn, Hannah must work alongside her new girlfriend to take down the Hunters desperate to steal her magic.
Hannah Walsh just wants to finish high school.
It’s her senior year, so she should be focusing on classes, hanging out with her best friend, and flirting with her new girlfriend, Morgan. But it turns out surviving a murderous Witch Hunter doesn’t exactly qualify as a summer vacation, and now the rest of the Hunters seem more intent on destroying her magic than ever.
Of course, Hannah knows a thing or two about juggling romance and recon missions, so when she learns the Hunters have armed themselves with a serum capable of taking out entire covens at once, she doesn’t think twice about helping. With Witches across the country losing the most important thing they have - their power - Hannah could be their best shot at finally defeating the Hunters. After all, she’s one of the only Witches to escape a Hunter with her magic intact.
Or so everyone believes. Because as good as she is at faking it, doing even the smallest bit of magic leaves her in agony. The only person who can bring her comfort, who can make her power flourish, is Morgan. But Morgan’s magic is on the line, too, and if Hannah can’t figure out how to save her - and the rest of the Witches - she’ll lose everything she’s ever known. As the Hunters get dangerously close to their final target, will all the witches in Salem be enough to stop an enemy determined to destroy magic for good?

Awesome books!
I loved both books in this series! They got very intense in some chapters, causing my blood pressure to rise...And then they caused me to cry in other chapters... The author really developed all of the characters VERY well. And the narrator really brought all of them to life. It was a great collaboration! I recommend this series!

Excellent Sequel!
Again, the performance was superb and the story checked all the boxes. What makes this special is the combination of how the author captures the voice of Hannah, a teen on the verge of adulthood, dealing with grief and fear and love and a slew of other emotions, and the narrator delivers so convincingly.

It’s good.
It’s a good YA book with magic, and makes queer characters more normalized while still showing how Hunter Regs hate and want to kill whatever is diffident from them as a parallel for acceptance of people. The main cast and side characters have representation across the board except for Asian Americans.
The first book in the series was good and I read this one right after. It started off strong but mid way it lulled and I took a few breaks or lost interest for a little bit. I’m glad I stuck it out as the last 12-15 chapters pick it back up.
There’s not overly perfect ending - it’s more realistic than a happily every after. And leaves room for another book.
There were definitely secret circle and motherland fort Salem vibes to it. If there’s a third book that features college and more blood witch background that would cool and I would read that.
I think I like that at least you get some understanding behind the why for the big bad boss, though maybe another one will go into Mid level bad bosses. And it did show just how messed up parents and culture and society can shape people from early on.

Complex & Relatable
Plot twists, magic, and a host of complex and diverse queer folk: what's not to love about the story?! My only notable issue is the performance of the character, Cal, who is a trans man. It may not have been the intention, but I found the voice used for this character to be rather high pitched, even compared to other cis female characters, which felt annoyingly misrepresentative to me. Otherwise though, I really loved both books in this series and found the characters very relatable.

A million emotions
this author has a way of making you fall in love with every single character, appriciate their differences and leave you craving for more. the universe of the books and the ending gives you room to imagine beyond whats written. its easy to see how Hannah Walsh will do going to college without her bestfriend, but having grown so much the year past.
the story is alive and thrilling and you should read it. as a queer woman i would have thrown every penny i had in high school for a story like this. it has budding romance, unyielding friendships, and what captured me the most: family heart break. let this world grip you and you will be thankful you got to live in it - through a sarcastic 17-year-old gay teenager who wear shirts with queer puns on them
