Story
When a close friend had her husband leave, I made the commitment to speak with her for 90 straight days, telling her exactly what I wished someone had told me the moment my own wife walked out. Every morning, I'd send her an email with a story from my own "hellacious" experience, giving her something inspirational to focus on and an action step to get her from heartbroken back to thriving - as fast as possible. My goal was simple - to get her just a little bit stronger each and every day, and it worked. This book is those exact letters, compiled for you, with zero punches pulled.

Severing a cherished relationship is one of the most painful experiences in life - and cutting those emotional ties to a loved one can feel almost like ending an addiction. Up till now, people recovering from other problems were able to get real help - like AA and rehab - while those struggling in the aftermath of traumatic breaks dealt with platitudes and friends insisting they should "get over it already". But now Exaholics Anonymous treats getting over an ex like kicking a chemical habit.

When it comes to the “hard seasons” of life—the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job—transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn’t See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel Hollis writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain—you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

Publisher's Summary
Letting go is not a process that comes naturally to us. In a world that teaches us to cling to what we love at all costs, there is an undeniable art to moving on - and it's one that we are constantly relearning. In this series of honest and poignant essays, Heidi Priebe explores the harsh reality of what it means to let go of the people and situations we love most - often before we are ready to - and how to embrace what comes next.

Not for me
Was more like a love story. Did not encourage strength of letting someone go, but instead ruminated on and on about loving and missing someone.
Letting go means letting go, not constantly reminiscing about the one you're letting go of. I'm sorry but I would not recommend.

It’s contradiction after contradiction. She’s a good writer but these chapters don’t go together or help with letting go of someone. Maybe it’s me but I don’t understand how anyone found this helpful and not more depressing about ending a relationship.

Partly Poignant meets Cheesy Fairy Tale Ideology
There were some really good points made about life and becoming strong and complete in who you are in singularity. But then she would totally lose me. It may be that she is targeting a specific audience; one that seemed to be for young college girls lost and heartbroken in a fantasy love cycle. I would have enjoyed it more if she presented to a broader spectrum of women. I suggest perusing through and taking from it the bits that are useful. I was literally gagging on several chapters though.

In my pain
This was the second book I bought in this category. The book helped me process my pain. Some days I'm fine other days I'm a total mess, wondering if it was my fault. I appreciated the narrator, her voice was comforting and when I found my self drifting back into the abyss of sadness I turn this book on. I keep looking for his texts or waiting on his phone calls and I don't know why. But this author's point of view is helping me get stronger day by day.
