Publisher's Summary

“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

Thomas Edison founded the first laboratory in the world dedicated to experimentation in the scientific field. There, he created many inventions which improved our everyday life. Despite his humble origins, Edison was able to become a successful businessman at a very young age and changed the world with one bright idea.

Starting from his first public demonstrations of the phonograph in 1878 to the development of the incandescent light and the first movie cameras, the Edison name was associated to all kinds of technological wonders.

Edison was for sure a genius in his field, even though many of the inventions generally attributed to him were the result of the work of his rivals and assistants. In this book, you will have the chance to get to know his work partners and his rivals, too.

History Academy will show you how Edison’s inventions worked and how the inventor became the first celebrity of the modern era.

“Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he can't afford to lose.”

Enjoy, dear listeners.

Worst narrator voice ever

The narrator of this book sounds like a computer generated voice, as the inflection is off and often the emPHASis is on the wrong sylLABles. It's painful to listen to. I couldn't get through more than an hour of it because the recitation is so stilted and annoying. There might be good content here but I've got better things to do with five hours of my time.

Amazed at all the glowing reviews. Guessing Audible's reviews aren't immune to the fake reviews problem. Buyer beware.

Edison was truly a genius,

Edison was truly a genius, even if his thinking and opinions were not always correct. However, the extent of his determination to solve a problem is rarely seen anymore. Definitely worth the listen !

I love this Audiobook

This is a fascinating Audiobook, detailing how Edison was a great inventor with a great imagination but also demonstrating his human failings, his vengeful attitude and his multitude of failures. Yet through it all, you see the man could see what others could not.

Good one

Enjoyable biography of a great mind with a endless search for practicality in his inventions. Although his ego was his dominant shortfall, he was able to succeed by sheer quantity of innovation. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Distracting narration

I was looking forward to learning more about Thomas Edison, but had to give up on this book as I found the narrator's voice is too distracting. He has a habit of of emPHASising and raising the pitch of his voice in the middle of words.
