Publisher's Summary
Three Rivers is the fourth in a chilling series of audiobooks that will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin and Helen H Durrant into David Blake devotees.
A body caught on the end of a mast, another skewered by a rhond hook and a chain of evidence Tanner simply cannot accept. As a twisting gale howls its way over Barton Broad, DS Jenny Evans joins a handsome old friend to help rescue the crew of an overturned boat. But when they discover a body, snagged on the end of the mast, one murder soon follows another, leaving DI John Tanner facing a race against time, desperate to prove that the most obvious suspect isn’t who everyone seems to think it is.

Okay, but least favorite of the series
I’ve liked this series’ stories and have found the characters’ interplay mostly amusing, but the female characters (especially the primary one, Jenny) get more insipid as the series goes on. I don’t know if I will continue with it, if more are written. I might, because I love Jonathan Keeble, but won’t stick with it if Jenny doesn’t stop her decent into caricature.

MISSING EDITOR
The narrator was, as he is with just about every other audiobook he narrates, excellent. Unfortunately, the author’s continued obstinate use, even in 2020, of the outdated term “girl” when referring to seasoned professional police women throughout his otherwise interesting story (and his writing the main female character as a whimpering, naive child during moments of danger) will keep many readers from purchasing any more of his novels. Where was the editor for this book?!

Jenny is a shrew; Tanner is a child
I though the fact that Jenny was more of an obnoxious witch with each book meant that she was going to be killed off. But unfortunately, no. Tanner has the emotional maturity of an adolescent and his idiocy and rages are ridiculous. Can’t take any more of this series.

can't finish
If I was reading this book, I'd stop at Chapter 4. If it wasn't for the great narration I wouldn't have made it to Chapter 13. I'm unable to take the comedic turn with every other sentence. The writer has written the character of DS Jenny into a silly, jealous 18 year old. The women in this story are suppose to be dumb and blonde. The men no better. The writer has turned the Tanner series characters into being trite and irritating.

Another great read..
Wow! This was a good one. Murders going on all over the place and that same killer was doing all he could to put the blame on Jenny Evans, John Tanner’s partner/girlfriend, while everyone she worked with did their best to clear her name. It was a really good story.
No romance to speak of and the F-bomb was used 4 times.
As to the narration: Jonathan Keeble is simply fabulous!

Good.
Before downloading this one in the series, I read many more reviews than usual. I thought some reviewers were bing too hard on John and Jenn. I was wrong. This one took me by surprise because all the ones prior were quite good ,in my opinion But this one lacked the face paced, fun and just all around good story that the others did.
As well, I must agree with the reviews that mentioned (repeatedly) how Whiny and annoying Jenn is in this book! Yes. She behaves like an bitchy, whiny , immature 18 year old, rather than a 30 year old professional DS. Tanner is not without fault in this one too. For a mature middle aged man, he does a lot of stupid things and never seems to be retrospective He blunders along doing the same things that get him I trouble in the first place!
Now for the good: Jonathan Keeble.

"All the girls knew James."
The fourth book in the DI Tanner and DS Jenny Evans detective series set in Norfolk, Three Rivers is more than just a murder mystery, it also follows the ongoing relationship between the couple and the impact that their personal lives has on their work relationship, and vice versa. Whilst the mystery storyline itself is initially intriguing, despite the culprit being rather obvious, it does feel unlikely. But the personal interplay between Tanned and Evans, though emotionally somewhat immature, does hold a sense of distinct possibility and was fun to observe as an outsider. The vicarious sightseeing of Norfolk, too, brings pleasure to the reading.
Narration by Jonathan Keeble was, as always, superb, perfectly paced with just the right infusion of emotion, good, expressive modulation and individually identifiable voices for each protagonist. The
This is an easy, enjoyab!e and undemanding book, probably best read in series sequence but still stand alone. Recommended for anyone enjoying location based, character centred police procedurals..

Sorry, it’s become a bit childish - a shame
I have enjoyed these books so far, but maybe the author is running out of ideas for a detective yarn linked to the broads waterways. However, in this one the two main characters are made to look like lovelorn teenagers having a tiff. Does he/she love me? Each with a younger handsome / pretty rival. Really? All a bit childish which seems to be used as filler between a weak plot. I’m unable to finish this so I shall be returning this one. A shame.

Three rivers
Having listened to the previous books in the series, I was excited to have the fourth instalment available so soon. I Managed to get the book free on kindle unlimited and add narration for around £3.50.
I have to question Jenny’s morals and conduct in this book. Can’t say I’d be happy if she was my girlfriend.
It also seemed to come to an abrupt end. I think it should of unravelled a bit slower. Maybe another hour on the audio would have done it.
I hope the author takes his time on the next book. Narration was spot on as usual.

Irritating
Great story but the female lead has really annoyed me in this book. She behaved in a way that I almost was hoping she would dive overboard and out of the book. She has developed into a stroppy teenager who I regret to say i now have grown to dislike over the four books. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the story but can Jenny have a transfer and the narrator pronounce Acle correctly before book five which I very much hope is on the way.

It's ok but not the best in the series
This book has a pretty good storyline, full of false leads and twists etc, but DS Jenny Evans is at her most irritating in this book. She is not smart, she is not 'sassy' she is not even remotely sensible, she acts like a stroppy teenager and endangers herself, which, of course, is the point of the storyline, I found this infuriating, I think most women would be annoyed by this, certainly most mothers of teen daughters, I do not recommend this story to anybody with a teenage daughter, but if you are a fan, like me, you might like to grab it anyway and see for yourself, but bear in mind that Jenny acts like a stroppy brat throughout.
Mr Keeble gives his usual perfomance throughout, not so much to my liking but he's on good form for those of you who love him. His female voices really do leave a lot to be desired though, be honest.

Another cracker!
In this book Tanner has to fight to solve a series of murders where someone is trying to frame his partner, DS Jenny Evans.
The setting is fantastic, the action is fast and the characters are so well drawn. I love the relationship between Tanner and Evans. I love the way they bicker, and how they are both jealous if anyone else so much as glances at the other. It all feels very real.
I just love this series, and have caught up now and am impatiently waiting for the next. David Blake is very underrated as an author and these books need to be read/listened to by more people.
My most favourite narrator, Jonathan Keeble, narrates these books and does an amazing job in building up the tension. Highly recommended.

BUT the narrator is excellent, except when it comes to one of the main characters JENNY please oh please if there are more novels- shes a smart DS , approaching 30 and from Norfolk
sadly she comes across as a west country version of teen vicky pollard (lt britain) it does detract somewhat
idk why actors and narrators struggle with the norfolk accent so

Childish characters spoil the story
I agree with the other reviews where I had enjoyed the series but Jenny has now become so irritating and childish it’s cringeworthy.
I love the narration but can’t finish the book as I don’t want to listen to Jenny sulk like a 14 year old and make unfunny jokes. Shame.

The author really seems to have got into their flow with this one. The characters are confidently developing and there is an ease in the writing. Suitably gritty and a welcome laugh out loud. Driving along giggling at arrival of Forrester's niece. Can't wait for next one.

annoying female character spoiled reasonable plot
Tanner is capable but occasionally emotionally driven and unprofessional. His girlfriend is a child who no sensible adult, as Tanner is meant to do, would have anything to do with. Unfortunately it is not uncommon for female characters to be written as immature adolescents. I will not be reading anymore that his Jen as a character. Well narrated

Good but...
I love this series but I have to say how the author portrayed Jenny in this book was a bit infuriating. I can not imagine any female behaving in such a manner.
The story line was & plot were strong & of course the narrator outstanding.
I will read the next book & hopefully the main story will get a bit more focus than Jenny & her i securities.

A tad disappointed in this latest.
I have loved David Blake’s previous Tanner & Evans books and was really looking forward to being reunited with them again but found Jenny Evans a total Diva this time. Carrying on like a jealous 14 year old over a new female colleague. Surely she should have had enough trust in Tanner by this stage. I cannot believe that as a Detective Sergeant she could be so blind to what was going on around her. It seemed she was the only one not seeing what was right in front of her. The way she kept “walking off the point” at the slightest provocation was so unprofessional and I found it embarrassing to be honest.

Jenny needs a kick up the bottom
I did find Jenny and John very silly and wish they had grown up a bit still it was ok I guess. Still the first book was the best. Glad there are no more I’m sick of them now.

Bit of a ho-hum
Jen is made to be a moaning idiot. Had to be the poorer plots written in this series.
