Publisher's Summary

The thrilling follow-up to Crown of Lies from New York Times best-selling author Pepper Winters.

Two years

Since my life changed for the second time and not necessarily for the better. Two years since I traded prison bars for streets and hunted a runaway who I'd met in an alley.

Two days

Since I forgot how to lie, woke to fists, and chased after the girl who'd been stolen from me.

Two hours

To save her, rescue her, keep my lies intact. She looks at me full of hate. I look at her full of confession.

Two minutes

For our relationship to switch from mutual dislike to floundering with unknowns. I've hurt her. Now, she's hurt me. I guess we're even.

Two seconds

For her to listen, to see, to finally know who I am. The answer comes with hardship. The answer isn't what she wants to hear.

Two breaths

For me to walk out the door.

Two heartbeats

For it all to be over.

😳WTF😳Sooooo Disapointed!!!!

I loved book 1, could not wait for book two, what a shame. I get that the story is Fiction, but really Pepper yes our legal system can be messed up but really accused have rights as do victims.
I feel so ripped off by the writer, I had to skip through 3/4 of it, but there is a HEA !!
The narration was great, actually the only redeeming fact of the story.
I am a huge Pepper Winters fan but I can't believe she wrote this second book. Worth a credit?? No Freaking Way, unless you are a devoted fan like me and can fast forward past the ridiculous to support one of your favorite writers😢

Good story, pronunciation incredibly bad...

It seems like every other word over 1 syllable was mis-pronounced - including larynx, for goodness sake! Please, someone listen through these publications before letting them go - embarrassed on behalf of the narrators and really distracting to listen to.

Don't bother

Erotic novels are my thing. This series did have moments, for the most part it was a book no one can relate to. It isn't realistic, and the times you go "oh well no shit" and feeling you know the end of every chapter is just, annoying. I almost didn't finish it, but I honestly cannot never finish. The first book is such a cliff hanger you have to buy the second one. I'm giving two stars because I love the author. But the story frustrated me.

Pepper Winter is coming

This is my first time reading from Ms. Winter. Her writing is amazing and mind blowing. She knows how to bring the emotions out of her readers. Which is WOW!? Now to the Mr. Rolon and Ms. Stewart. You guys were amazing. Any chance you guys are dating or marry? Lol Overall, Kylie and Eric did an amazing job. They know how to bring the characters into life. Like wow!!!! Ms. Winter!!!!!!! Is possible if they finish doing the audible for Tears of Tess?

just wow<br />

Wow this was a great book it made me laugh and cry. It is amazing what love can makes us do crazy things. How love makes us put the neesds And feelings of the person we love before our own.

The only things I really didn't like was how Elle came across a little weak at time. How she had to have so many doubts and question everything in her head instead of asking out loud. But other than that this book was amazing. It was worth the credit I paid for.

Five Star, Must read!!!! This is book 2 start w #1

I actually had the first book in my library for months and couldn't get past the violent scene in the first or second chapter. One day i had no power, no service, and only a few books to choose from so I decided to tough it thru to see if it got better and I'm so glad I did! This duet is now at the top of my favorites list for sure!!!

Dang you Pepper Winter's, you just had to make me

So many questions were finally answered, so many tears were shed while listening to this book (I'm sure my co-workers think I'm a nut job), and so many broken hearts were mended.

This was the best conclusion to a duet that I have read. I was nervous when I only had a half hour or so left in this book, not knowing if Penn and Elle were meant for each other had me in tears and a mild panic attack. I thought for sure Ms. Winters' would leave us hanging and these two characters would get the HEA they both deserved (she's shady like that).

Needless to say this was a great book and I look forward to more books by Ms. Winters.

This was ok, not what I expect from Pepper Winters

It was just ok. I have started to expect a certain flavor from different authors. So when I sit down to read or listen to a Pepper story, I expect a certain level of intrigue, dark and dirty romance, twists and turns. There were elements of these. Maybe she set her bar too high. I just expect it every time. -- this was good, just not great.

The chocolate kisser!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😤😥😊🤩😘

The heroine: Noelle “Elle” Charlston - current CEO of ‘Belle Elle’, the worlds largest department store that has been in her family for generations. She is a young CEO who worked with her father at Belle Elle since she was young. She grew up in a gilded cage, at work and at home. She escaped her cage once at nineteen and has had her head to the grindstone ever since.

The Hero: Penn Everett - for years he planned to help homeless people transition from the streets back to productive lives. He is on the verge of bringing that to fruition when Elle ran out on the gala they were attending. He had originally planned to have a short relationship with her, use her and leave her, though everything changed that night.

The Story: Elle has had her fill of men who want to use her to get her money, position and power. She has been taken, mistreated and lied to. She is through with men and just wants to get back to her life. Though nothing ever goes like she would expect.

Like Crown of Lies, this book was told in dual points of view and with duet narration where the male narrator did all the male voices and the female narrator did all the female voices no matter who’s POV the chapter was in. I love this type of narration. Kylie C. Stewart and Eric Rolon did a great job and I really like their styles. Kylie’s voice is strong but soft and Eric has a deep but not overpowering voice and he was believable as a businessman that came from the streets.

I really enjoyed this one, the storylines were completely original and unpredictable and I listened intently to the whole book in one sitting. It was fantastic and went to places I couldn’t have imagined. I felt for both Elle and Penn and what they went through to be together. I was also as frustrated as they were when things didn’t go the way I hoped for them. This duet was a real winner. I will definitely listen to this again at some point.

Long and drawn out

Too long and drawn out, too many long sex scenes, ended up skipping large parts. First and second book should have been combined into one.

Improvement to the first but still predictable

An improvement to the first book however this was still predictable and stretched out, I found myself skimming through 50%. The content of both books could have easily been one. I love Pepper Winters but this wasn't the best.

Maybe I'm too snobby?

I struggled getting through this one. The first book was amazing but this one dragged. Because nothing says sexy like prison and "Hey, this is the bridge I used to sleep under." Also every sexual conversation seemed to take place in rooms full of people..... and Elle's father who said nothing!

Well read by both narrators.

I chose this Series because I loved reading Pepper Winters' "Boy and His Ribbon" series, and because it was a Duet narration, a bonus I search for when browsing. We need to see this more often btw.

The narrators were great, and Eric Rolan is amazing. So many different characters, and he made each one unique. A real gift.

This storyline was great but inside of the story, I sometimes fast-forwarded the sex scenes as they often went for 1 or 2 chapters each, and they became generic. (Very unlike her "Boy and His Ribbon" books that built the romantic tension so you felt it, and really wanted them to finally get together).

Despite this, I gave it 5 stars for the original storyline but mostly for the great narration.
