Publisher's Summary
Friday Night Lights meets Morgan Matson's The Unexpected Everything in this contemporary debut where swoonworthy romance meets underdog sports story.
When softball star Liv Rodinsky throws one ill-advised punch during the most important game of the year, she loses her scholarship to her fancy private school, her boyfriend, and her teammates all in one fell swoop. With no other options, Liv is forced to transfer to the nearest public school, Northland, where she'll have to convince its coach she deserves a spot on the softball team, all while facing both her ex and the teammates of the girl she punched.... Every. Single. Day.
Enter Grey, the injured star quarterback with amazing hair and a foolproof plan: If Liv joins the football team as his temporary replacement, he'll make sure she gets a spot on the softball team in the spring. But it will take more than just a flawless spiral for Liv to find acceptance in Northland's halls, and behind that charismatic smile, Grey may not be so perfect after all.
With well-drawn characters and a charming quarterback love interest who's got brains as well as brawn, Throw Like a Girl will have listeners swooning.
Critic Reviews
"Liv's major obstacle is learning to forgive and trust again: the family who doesn't respect her decisions; the teammates who keep secrets; the boyfriend with an agenda; and above all, her own flawed, complicated, driven, triumphant self. This charming sports story reflects classic tropes of the genre while still feeling fresh and relevant. A winner." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Determination and grit mixed perfectly with sass and humor on every turn of the page. With mistakes come lessons, and this story tells it in a way that everyone can relate to." (Abbi Glines, number one New York Times best-selling author)
"[Sarah] Henning offers up a scrappy contemporary debut in the vein of Morgan Matson. Sports fans and romance lovers unite - there's plenty to satisfy both teams here." (Booklist)

Satisfying, Genuine Story
I am not the typical audience for this book-my children are grown, I was never an athlete and don’t really watch sports. But a friend recommended it to me and the title was intriguing. Very quickly Henning’s descriptive writing and wonderful story telling drew me in and I found myself back in high school feeling what it was like to navigate those delicate, complicated female, male, sibling, parental and teacher relationships. Henning is a master at painting a scene and making it come alive. Her characters are rich, their relationships are complex, nuanced and authentic. I found myself rooting not just for Liv and Gray but for all of the characters including the parents and coaches. I thought I was just going hear a predictable story about teenage athletes in love but instead I got a very satisfying and genuine glimpse into what it means to be a friend, a daughter, and a competitor. I listened to the book in two days because I could not put it down. Devon Hales’ narration is spot on-she captured Liv’s voice perfectly and her performance kept me listening and added to the satisfaction of hearing this well told story.

Nothing New, Good For Passing Time
The book is just the typical story of a girl finding herself in the least expected places possible, I liked Liv's character, she has some spunk and she is girly at the same time, her friendship with Adi is goals .. nice book for passing some time
So the story is about Liv who got kicked out of her softball team and her school and she is trying to prove herself by joining the football team to replace the injured quarterback who happens to be the son of the coach of her softball team and from there the relationship between Liv and Grey blooms
The narrator was good, she did a good job performing this book but not the best I've seen

STORY IS CUTE AND FLUFFY
The story is cute .. teenage fluffy easy listen/read which I needed in that moment after reading some deep complex books. Overall I enjoyed it for what it is.
The narrator was just ok in the beginning but as the story progressed she was a lot more fluid and really improved. Her voice felt like a teenage girl telling the story. I would give something else she narrates a shot. Trust me there are better but there are a LOT worse narrators out there. She did well.

Good Listen
This was a good listen about relationships, family, friends and loves. I do love that there wasn't the typical shunning of the girl player and even with the ex there wasn't a big drama thing there was some angst but not a whole lot of it. Overall I enjoyed how the story played out and the narration was done well.

Cute story with great narration
I’m usually not one for Rom-Coms but decides to give the Audible book THROW LIKE A GIRL a try and I wasn’t disappointed. The narrator had a pleasant voice and did a great job voicing both male and female voices and differentiating between different characters.
The story centering around a high school girl playing football had some more serious subplots but is also light enough to be a fun beach read or listen.

I loved it!
Throw Like a Girl by Sarah Henning follows Liv, who's life revolves around softball. However after an incident at one of her matches she finds herself off the team with no scholarship to her private school anymore and having to leave it. She needs softball to get a scholarship for collage so she tries to join the softball team at her new school, but to do this she must prove she is a team player and finds herself on the football team in order to achieve this.
This book was one of my favourite contemporaries I've read, and it isn't usually a genre I love, so I'd highly recommend it to everyone! The characters are so well developed which is what really made the book great and the romance feel real (this was very important to me as it's the main plot). Liv is so sweet but also determined and works so hard to get what she wants. Grey is so encouraging and also determined, they were really perfect for each other and I loved all their moments together. There were a lot of other side characters who were all also developed really well, none of them were forgettable. I would love to be friends with them all!
I loved the plot as well, sport romances are my favourite and this is a perfect sport romance. Although I have no idea what softball is or how American football is played I could still follow everything that was happening very easily and found myself rooting for Liv and Grey. I loved seeing them progress towards completing their goals and how they handled everything that got in the way. The ending was perfect as well and nothing felt rushed or forced.
I could honestly see this book being turned into a Netflix movie as it would fit in so well with the others on there. So if you love contemporary romances or teen romance movies you'll definitely love this!
Also this was an amazing audiobook, the narrator was incredible!

Best Sports YA Romance
This book was so good! The sport scenes had me at the edge of my seat that you can't help but feel like you're actually at these football games. First YA sports romance I've ever listened/read that narrates great sport scenes, rather just glossing over to the end of the match or game. Will definitely look for more books by this author.
