Publisher's Summary

From The Sunday Times best-selling author.

Thrown Away Child is a memoir covering Louise Allen’s abusive childhood in a foster home, how she survived - using her love of art as a sanctuary - and how she hopes to right old wrongs now by fostering children herself and campaigning for the improvement of foster care services. It is a compelling and inspirational story. This book gives a voice to the many children who grew up unhappily in care.

Enjoyable

This was definitely hard to listen to as the story was so sad. My heart dropped a few times hearing the abuse this child had to go through.
As being one who was in the Foster care world, it triggered some feelings I didn't know I had.
It's hard for me to say I enjoyed the story as it left me so sad, yet so happy her life got better!

Just wow!

This story was told on a way where it makes you really wonder how many other children are living this way. I needed to pause at certain points because I was overcome with emotion. I enjoyed this read

Wow!

This was definitely a difficult “read.” I listened to it in a day and was sobbing in the end. I am so, so, so sad for the Williams and Louises and young Barbaras out there. I have never understood the cycle of abuse. (I know it’s real - just don’t understand it.) it seems someone who knows how it feels could never repeat it. Anyway, I’m very happy that Louise eventually found happiness. I hope William did too. And I hope Kevin turned his life around and that Tim is happy today.

Mixed feelings

Book was extremely hard to listen to because of the content. Almost stopped several times but wanted to hear how she survived this horrible abuse. She was a very courageous child and it's by the grace of God she survived.

Great Book- but why was the narrator whispering?

The book itself was wonderful and well written. It's heartwrenching knowing how broken the foster care systems are all over the world.

The narration was good, although sometimes I felt like she was whispering. Or trying to speak quietly as not to disturb someone in the next room. I had to rewind several times in order to hear her.

Overall, it was a great book and I'll absolutely recommend it .

brilliantly written

I think Sarah is my new favourite narrator, the book was very sad, I won't get into it as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I love listening to audios on walks and when I'm driving, I think this, for me has been the book that has encouraged me to go out and walk more, just so I can finish it, I was completely gripped from start to finish much love to the author Louise Allen ❤

The strength to survive

I am not sure i could show the compassion louise did towards her foster mother later on but was glad she was able to walk away at the end, with her head and heart at peace. No children should live through...if they survive...the painful abuse as Louise has but it reminds us of the amazing strength children somehow find in saving themselves, too often by themselves. Thank-you for sharing your story, Louise....

A story that needed to be told

I have listened to many books of how the "so called" caring system has let vulnerable children down & Louise has so got it right that carers need too be listen to after all they are the ones that look after children 24/7 they know.
Her story is so very sad but I am so glad that she was not beaten down & she persuaded her dream. There are so many that have not.
Thank you Louise & I hope you live a happy life now, you so deserve it.

Powerful and very well wrote

Listening to Louise’s story is difficult at times hearing the neglect and abuse and how many times she could have been saved

Louise is living proof that you can go on and have a happy healthy life and parent as you would have wanted to be patented without the excuse of a bad childhood
Her drive and determination to succeed and not give in is truly remarkable

Thank you for sharing Louise and the wonderful work you & you’re family do for others in need of a safe secure home

Heart wrenching

How can these despicable so called ‘carers’ get away with what they do - we can only hope they eventually rot in hell.

Amazing

I listened to this book in two days, Louise tells her story so we'll and against all odds she got her message out, I am really amazed at what she went through but also saddened. I loved the ending too.

Couldn’t put it down

I came across this book whilst scrolling.
Louise’s story was difficult to hear to first. I almost stopped listening because I was uncomfortable. So grateful for Louise to share her trauma. This was an education. How wonderful that she eventually used all the evil she endured for good. Bless.
