Infused with magic, shadows and starlight, the powerful godblades were believed to be lost nearly half a millennia ago, when the Godswar ended. Now, however, one has been found by the unlikeliest of wielders: Sampson Gaard, a blind but ambitious prince with something to prove. The only question is whether he controls the blade or the blade him. With an insidious evil lurking in the shadows, the answer may very well determine the fate of all Kingfall.

The Wizard's Council of Tarador was supposed to tell young Koren Bladewell that he is a wizard. They were supposed to tell everyone that he is not a jinx, that all the bad things that happen around him are because he can't control the power inside him, power he doesn't know about. The people of his village, even his parents, are afraid of him, afraid he is cursed. That he is a dangerous, evil jinx.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

From Amazon best-selling author Matthew Wolf, Tides of Fate continues where Bastion of Sun left off....
Shadows and darkness stir. The tides of fate are coming.
Gray is dying from the bloodpact. He stands on the precipice of life and death and must resolve his vow made in blood with the enigmatic Faye. Farhaven as a whole is threatened by a new evil. Mathelstan, thief-lord of water, seeks the title of Master of Shadows, head of all the thiefdoms. In an effort to consolidate power and save his city, Mathelstan steals the Ronin’s blades and puts Darius before the crucible of fire.
At the same time, the other Ronin are waiting to be found. Ayva must rally Zane and Helix to find the other young legends in order to save Farhaven. To this end, they head to Median, the city on the ocean, hunting for the true Great Kingdom of Water. However, their search will not be easy as Yronia, the fallen Great Kingdom of Metal, stirs. A darkness, an ancient evil, seeks to blot out the sun and end the Ronin’s quest once and for all.
Nefarious pirates, grand sea battles, water serpents, and much more await in this thrilling next installment of The Ronin Saga. Gray and the others must save Farhaven, but the tides of fate are ever-shifting.

Wow. Just wow.
I listen to a lot of fantasy, but rarely take the time to review unless I’m annoyed, or blown away. I’ve enjoyed the rest of the Saga so far, but this one… I loved the character arcs so much. Ayva has been annoying me a little bit, but in this one, every character has their time to shine.
So Pros:
+ Characterization is so rich and layered. I love the arcs as I mentioned. Small spoiler: Helix and Darius have quickly become one of my favorite duos. They’re both quirky and charming in their own right. Both sort of “outcasts” mischief makers, yet both end up arguably doing some of the most noble acts of the book. I want more stories of these two together. Faye had a smaller part, but I liked her evolution.
Most standout character for - Mathelstan. For me it had to be the notorious thief-lord of water. His “shades” of gray were really interesting. If you’re looking for a book where you can loathe a character one moment, then respect, then admire, yet see his foibles—this is it.
ALSO NEW RONIN! (No spoilers)
+ Writing. This prose flows quickly. The chapters aren’t as chopped up as previous books. They each end on a crescendo.
+Plot - Not much to say, enjoyed the premise a lot. I see aa a lot of fantasies where they overcome all odds, but this was a nice mix of fighting impossible battles, and inspiring my “noble fantasy reader”, while having some grim and grittiness that made it real/believable.
+setting - loved the scenes in the city of water. The pirate battles, the salty city, the wharfs.
+ Less moody. Bastion I loved, but had some moody parts, this didn’t have any of that.
Cons:
⁃I felt a character sacrificed a lot more than she had to. (No spoilers) I wish a character could have not been duped. I see why she was, and why it’s in her persona, but still…
⁃I want more.
I can definitely see Matthew Wolf’s growth as an author in Tides of Fate. If you’re questioning getting it, don’t. If you even semi-enjoyed b1 2 or 3, this is a WHOLE new ball game. It will grip you and make you fan. It did for me. I can’t wait for the next in the Saga now. Truly one of my favorite series. I became a Patreon backer after this and got a glimpse to inside the next books, and it looks like there’s much more to come. Very excited.

Mind Blowing
Okay, the last book kinda bored me I won't lie.
I decided to give the series another chance, and I'm glad I did because holy crap.
This story picks up exactly where the last left off, and it doesn't slow down at all.
I love how this author intertwines each storyline, the foreshadowing, and being comfortable with character death is just amazing.
This has me hooked again and I can't wait for book. 5!

“Dying with them serves no one but your own guilt”
Really enjoyed this book. The series just seems to get better as it goes, a true epic fantasy.
Ok, so it’s difficult to listen to sometimes as it’s pretty complex so you don’t want to miss a beat, but it’s filled with cool magic systems and fights.
Great narration from Tim, with great pacing, atmosphere and character voices!
Looking forward to the next in the series!
