Publisher's Summary

The isolated, sleepy little village of Timber Falls—built on the bend of a swift mountain river—swells during the summer months as tourists flock to town to run the river, lured there by the Class IV and Class V rapids.

A gruesome murder of a college student—a river rat—brings the FBI to town.

Haley Martin used to be one of those river rats during her college years. Now she owns the Timber Falls Bar and Grill, drawn back to the picturesque village seven years ago after the tragic death of her wife.

Lynn Carter, a disgraced LAPD detective, was offered an out—a position on a team of unorthodox FBI agents. After a month of training, she was sent out on her own without a team or a partner. Her commander, nothing more than a mysterious voice on the phone, dished out assignments.

When he sent her to Timber Falls—a town by only the stretch of the imagination—she had no idea she would find her peace there. No idea she might find love.

But a serial killer preying on the tourists that the town relies on for survival takes precedence as clues lead her to an unlikely suspect.

Not my favourite

I usually quite enjoy Gerri Hill's novels, but this time, the story felt too rushed and simple. Gerri has the skills to write excellent stories, but I feel this one needed a little more development. I had to go check if I had accidentally purchased an abridged book, but apparently not. The setting was inspiring, the characters were promising and the thriller sounded like something worth more than this short story, where everything fit into place in a blink of an eye. Despite the excellent narration, after thf book ended, I felt like I had listened to the first draft of a storyline, with the finer details missing. I didn't dislike anything, but I needed more of everything. I still love Gerri Hill, just not this particular story.

Goodbye Gerri?

This book, while I don't believe it to be intentional, is definitely the type that some people will use to push trans phobia. I have loved many of her others but am very leary of her writing now.

Abby is always great.

Let's visit Timber Falls

I have listened to Timber Falls twice and will again. I love the characters, the story line ( gruesome murders and all) and damn who doesn't enjoy Abby Craden voice. Her ability to change her voice for each character is amazing.
Gerri Hill is one of my favorite authors to read or listen as an audible.
Timber Falls sounds like a town I would love to visit. Kayak the river, hike the trails and then visit Haley's Timber Falls Bar and Grill.

Decent love story

This felt a bit different from the other books I've read from this author. More of a love story, with a lot of healing instead of a lot of explicit scenes. Felt like everything else in the book was secondary to the MC healing from the death of a spouse. That's fine, but it felt like the rest of the story (and the other characters) were....thin. Like background noise. Olay for what it was, just lacked the depth, intensity, and....idk, hotmess(?) of her other work.

Abby is a Very Good Narrator

Another fine audible. I enjoy Abby narrating a Gerri Hill book. I'm sadden that Andie and Special Agent Ross has retired. Carter was a good substitute for the FBI agent. I love the suspense/detective series. It gives the story line an extre punch. Gerri, you keep writing. I'll keep listening.

Dynamic duo

You can’t go wrong with Geri Hill or narrator Abby Craden.
I think they are both fabulous, dynamic duo.

Fabulous book

I am not often found writing a full review, but this book has compelled me to do so. I love the way the two women are weaved together. I also love the links made to characters from previous books, contrary to what other reviews have expressed. It was fresh and beautiful. Thank you Gerri for another wonderful work of art in this world so full of angst - a wonderful retreat - when two women find each other despite the circumstances of their meeting and their own personal challenges. Keep it up, just love your books that link the characters, helps bring fiction to life and seated in reality.

Repetitive…

I love Gerri Hill she is very talented, unfortunately I feel that her stories/books are basically the same story with different settings and it is feeling very repetitive. Abby Craden again I have enjoyed her narration on several books but I feel she recycling the voices for every book. I’m not hating on them as I respect them both and they are very talented this is merely constructive criticism. Switch it up Ladies!

Same old, same old.

Rehashed characters and story. Seriously getting bored of the narrator, it’s the same voices every audiobook, time to mix it up. Feel nothing for the one dimensional characters. 2/5

genre

in the saphfic cops genre it's very good but romance only it's 4☆ and no Teddy bear or dog.
I love Gerri Hills' saphfic books, and obviously Abby does too, as her performance reading them shows.
still worth buying

Good story once I got used to the narrators voice

I thought I'd struggle with this as I didn't warm to the narrator straight off. nevertheless, the story was good, so I kept going and for a short story, it was OK. nothing outstanding, but I've read some real duffers, and this us by no means one of them. it's easy and predictable, no deep twists. a reasonable light read.

Timber Falls is a lovely little thriller you shouldn't miss out on! I've basically read everything Gerri Hill has written and she rarely disappoints, you know what you're getting with Hill and she delivers it here.

Fabulous story but

As ever Gerri Hills storytelling is first rate the M C's are well developed and have satisfying story arcs. However this is the second time she has used a trope which is problematic for the trans community. After messaging Gerri I am convinced no transohobia was intended the ishue is still there. Sill an excellent read and well worth the credits!

Too short

This was a great tie-in to the previous Sullivan and Ross novels and, by implication, the Hunter series as well, both of which I really enjoyed. Hill does a great job with linking crime and romance and this was no different with a serial killer, grief and romance entangled to bring out this story. I can’t wait for the new Hunter novel to come out next year. The only fault with this book was that it was over too fast and now I have months to wait for the next novel.
