Publisher's Summary

He was her target. She was his diversion. Falling in love was never something they wanted.

As a con woman who has spent her entire life fending for herself on the streets of London, Rose Wakefield knows how to scam a gentleman out of his money without ever getting caught. That's until she knocks on the wrong earl's door and is faced with Carver Ashburn Earl of Kensworth and not the notorious rake she thinks she is approaching.

Carver is a good man, but even a good man will not pass up an opportunity to escape his grief. What better way to avoid his feelings than to play into a con woman's ruse and offer to marry her?

Things only grow more complicated when Carver sweeps Rose off to his family estate and circumstances force them both into continuing the ruse. Carver needs to protect his family, and Rose needs to protect herself - and her heart.

With so much set against them, will Rose and Carver have a chance at love and freedom? Or is the possibility of more heartache not worth the risk?

Perfectly Delightful!

I absolutely adored this book and couldn’t put my phone down until I finished it. I laughed. I cried. It really touched my heart. I didn’t want it to end. Can’t wait for her next book.

Incomparable!

I’m not sure I can even do this book justice. To say that I laughed out loud for the first three chapters is an understatement. Several people in my family were gathered around laughing with me even though they had no idea why. It was just that contagious. This was a delightful book. It had an unusual premise and somewhat broken characters which ultimately just made it all the more relatable and yet truly delightful. Rose is such an intriguing character and Carter is the ultimate heartthrob. Since I have already read book two, To Catch a Suitor, I know that I get to hear more of this duo throughout the series which makes my heart glad. In fact I realized after reading it on kindle that it was coming out on Audible and immediately bought it to share with my daughters. I will absolutely continue to read through every book in the series and will continue to be on the lookout for anything written by Sarah Adams. The narration of this book is also great and my daughters loved it; my sister just bought it and I am convinced she will soon be thoroughly enjoying it as well!

A con woman and a gentleman

Liked the story very much; some sadness, some humor, and some fun. Clean!
Narrator sounded sluggish in the beginning but ended well.

Fun, Clean Romance, but not period accurate

This was a fun, clean romance. I loved the characters and their depth. It was a great plot idea, but had some major period flaws.

* I would recommend it as a fun read * with the caveat that the strict rules of society in that era be almost completely ignored.

Speed up reading for best experience

Sarah Adams is a new favorite. Every book is great. This was no different. The only tip is to speed up the narration. The reading is super slow. I sped up to 1.1 and maybe could’ve gone to 1.2.

male voices need some work

The story was pretty good. but I had a hard time listening to the robotic-sounding Carver and high-pitched Oliver.

Very sweet

This is a clean romance so if you’re like me and like some steam this is not it. It’s a good story but no hotness.

Very enjoyable book

I very much enjoyed this book. Funny in places!!!! Even though it was a bit predictable, I still listened in a day and a half. I probably would have listened to the book at one time but life gets in the way. The narrator was a little too passive but I enjoyed the story enough to tolerate her. Thumbs up for sure and I will be looking for more books by this author.
