In this factual account written with General Carl Steiner (Ret.), a commander who held responsibility for all U.S. Special Operations forces across all service lines, we get special insight into a largely secretive community whose members do not talk about their work. We hear about it only afterwards: the Achille Lauro hijacking, the "takedown" of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, the efforts to find Aidid in Somalia. These are men sent in to do the impossible - and often, they achieve it.

Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Publisher's Summary
The Navy SEALs have been fighting terrorists around the world for over a decade. And for all that time, the Bandito Platoon SEALS from SEAL Team Seven have been on continuous combat rotation. Now they have drawn a shipboard assignment off Central America - an easy day.
But for a Navy SEAL, the only easy day was yesterday.
In a powerful story of global anti-terrorism inspired by real life missions, Act of Valor combines stunning combat scenes, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.
Act of Valor takes you deep into the secretive world of today’s most elite, highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home.
But each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border - where they engage in an epic firefight with potentially unimaginable consequences for America…

Good performance, boring story
I was happy with the readers performance, he has a good voice and was comfortable to listen to. I do wish there was a bit more intensity given to the SEALs voices particularly in the action scenes. I've read a number of biographies of former SEALs and they are all colourful characters with both good and bad traits, I found the characters in this book to be too textbook and without flaws or depth, and lacked some of the "Gung Ho" spirit and undying love for action that actual SEALs seem to possess. The story itself is predictable but passable, but I think it pales in comparison to the real stories told by actual SEALs such as in the books by Chris Kyle and Donn Mann which I found to have more intense action, humour and entertainment value than this work. Based on my knowledge I do think the author is very knowledgeable and includes lots of accurate details about the SEALs, technology and the Military/Navy which I enjoyed, and it is also clear that he has utmost respect for these heroes.

too, too trite
I have complex feelings about Tom Clancy. I thought his first five or so books were wonderful. The next few laughable. The last few great entertainment, particularly as to the action scenes. This one is just too trite. Too much like thousands of other jingoistic, US all good, SEALs all good and near superhuman, the wives all brilliant and beautiful with great careers until they become housewives after getting married, volumes. Like a pulp Western I suppose. Telegraphs the outcome, to the extent is any different than it would ever be in any similar story, way ahead of time.
That said, the action scenes are great. Very compelling, even if the characters are super human. And the actual prose is not bad at all. I thought the narrator was suitably manly and serious. Really quite good.
So it is not horrible escapist literature, just way more predictable than even most of the genre.

Where does Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
I am amazed at the amount of technical knowledge about the military and equipment used by the military that Clancy comes up with. I have asked some supposed experts that say he knows what he is talking about.

Give me a sec while I dry my eyes.....
Would you listen to Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor again? Why?
Wow~ I would have to say yes, but this is one very intense story...at least for me it was. Yes, I am a girl...yeah, girls are a little more emotional, but even manly men are allowed to get teary eyed over the conclusion of this one.
What did you like best about this story?
What can I say, it's an intriguing & compeling story. The writing & narraration is so well done that you feel like you are right there living it or that you are at least being told the story by someone who actually experienced a real situation. It doesn't really have that
Which character – as performed by Steven Weber – was your favorite?
The narration was so amazing, but I have to say... holy moly, there is one scene with the Dr. when she(he) says
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I had planned to, but I just couldn't do it....it was just too intense. I had to take 2 seperate breaks which is very unlike me to be honest. I usually like to just plow through from start to finish.... however, it is now 4:30 a.m. because once I got back into it I couldn't turn it off because it got so intense. Then, I had to write this review while it was still fresh in my thoughts....not that I will be forgetting this one any time soon.
Any additional comments?
This story is about the ugly up-close and personal side of terrorism. But it is truely about bravery, patriotism, honor, loyalty, and the ultimate sacrifice.
I highly recommend this audiobook~
Happy listening~

Exceptionally well written and narrated audiobook
This audiobook is incredible; I enjoyed it from the first chapter to the last. Couch and Gladorisi do an excellent job of writing. The story is very well conceived, flows well and is very believable. Steven Weber does a very good job of narration.
After reading a previous review, I had concerns this book might be a 'little mushy,' it isn't! It's about Navy Seals and their heroic wives who never seem to get the credit they deserve for their sacrifices while their husbands are deployed to keep us safe.
I will warn you, this is a great book worth every minute of listening. In fact, you will probably be wishing it were longer - I would rate it a 10 if I could,,,but I hated the way it ends.

WHAT CAN I SAY
Would you consider the audio edition of Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor to be better than the print version?
I spend a great deal of time in my car and have very little time to read the book. So I would say yes.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot was predictable in a good way, but the action was non stop.Good guys win, bad guys lose. At times I found myself driving slower to listen to a little more. Edge of my seat no but, always wanting more.
Have you listened to any of Steven Weber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Couldn't say but, I would love to listen to him again.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
YES, as a man and an Amercian.
Any additional comments?
It is simple to to bad mouth Amercia, Why because we care. We fight the worlds battles with little help or understanding. Kill Bin Landen and half the world wants to kill all Americans and the other half second guesses every move. What other country would allow you to do that. The men of the Seals do missions that few could or would do and should be respected and honored in every way posible.

Best of America, honor and character astounding
What made the experience of listening to Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor the most enjoyable?
The suspense, the real drama, the detail and the love story between the main character and his wife. The bravery of America's soldiers who are willing to lay their life down so all Americans can live free and be critical of American millitary. The reader of the book brings this story to life: especially the funeral of the fallen soldier. I was listening to the last portion of the story while shopping for groceries and could not help but cry. I had to explain to people I was O.K. but listening to a great book. This story is what makes America the best country in this world.
What did you like best about this story?
The bravery of America's soldiers, the honor they bring to our country and the fact that the millitary men and woman go beyond their duties to keep our country safe is stunning to those of us who live our lives in relative safety and warmth of our homes.
What does Steven Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Steve Weber brings a realm of reality and emotions to the story. He brings the book to life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed and cried. I thought the light hearted banter among the soldiers was funny, I also could envision the scene where they stole the truck in Africa and then tried to explain the
Any additional comments?
The book and the story was so inspiring. My small troubles of everyday life seem so small compared to one man giving up his life for his fellow soldiers and the freedom that we so much enjoy in America.

Thought provoking and emotional experience.
Detailed informative and accurate depiction of the damgerous work those who serve undertake. The professionalism and dedication of the elite will inspire you but you must listen right the end to comprehend the full meaning of this book.
Remembrance day has a new meaning for me. Every day good people and their families pay the highest price to maintain our security and values. Thank you to all the services, specially the front line individuals and the writers of this book for reminding me of the daily struggle to maintain peace and the law. I couldn't help to be inspired to live bravely and appreciate safe society I live in.

Ludicrous macho swill
The good guys gear works perfectly. It is extensively detailed . They always get a clean double tap in . They kill at least 10 guys before one is wounded . They are good looking with deep integrity. The understanding of Muslim belief and culture is minimal. Honestly , it’s pretty sixth form stuff .

I really tried…….
…to enjoy this book but failed miserably. Endured the excruciating detail, the myriad acronyms and the sickly sentimentality for five long hours and then happily released myself to my great relief!
