Publisher's Summary

A Missing Ferryman. An Undead Dilemma. An Immortal Detective.

An emissary from the Dark Council has just materialized in the office of the Montague & Strong Detective Agency, and makes Simon Strong an offer he can't refuse. Charon is missing. The legendary ferryman responsible for transporting sorcerer souls across the river Styx hasn't been seen in days. And with each passing hour, those unable to cross the river are left to walk among the living, tilting the world further out of balance.

Meet Simon Strong, an immortal, who is also the best private detective in New York City. Together with his surly partner Tristan Montague, a mage of indeterminate age, they must find the Ferryman and get him back to work before another Supernatural War ravages the earth, destroys humanity, and Simon's local coffee shop.

Time is running out. His landlord wants the rent and Karma with a capital K is paying him a visit, and she can be a real....

Join the Montague & Strong Detective Agency and help them locate Charon, so he can restore balance to the universe, put the dead sorcerers to rest, and maybe solve the age-old conundrum - coffee or tea?

GOOD SERIES.

Interesting. Well written and performed. Orlando A Sanchez is new to me. I am glad I gave this book a try. The plot was interesting and the story flows smoothly. Kevin T Collins narration/performance was excellent. He brought the characters to life. Most enjoyable and I am looking forward to more books on this series.

Easy listen

I really enjoyed the book. The narrator was really able to give the various characters different voices and made the listening enjoyable. The story could have flowed a little more smoothly but once I became familiar with the writer's style it did not bother me. This is not a groundbreaking book but it was a VERY fun book to Listen to. The interactions between Tristan and Simon made me snicker more than once. I would recommend the book for a road trip!

I love Simon, Peaches, and Tristen

I love this series! This is a dynamic trio like no other. If you love urban fantasy, metaphysical intrigue, snarky comments and relatable characters this is definitely a good choice for your library

Another great Paranormal Detective story

Loved the tone and pace of this tale. So much like Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, any one of his fans would be pleased. This story even has little shout outs to Jim.
Hope there is more from Mr Sanchez

Not Impressed

You know those dollar store toys... the ones that are really bad knockoffs of name brands. Like it looks nothing like the name brand. It’s cheap, it’s misshapen, and possibly toxic but you know what it’s supposed to be.

This book is a dollar store knockoff of the Dresden Files.

Now I read the book with the idea in mind that it’s along the same vein so I’ll probably enjoy it. I’ve read other books similar to the Dresden Files and loved them because they were clearly very different but were similar enough in concept. But no.

There were downright amateur mistakes in the writing but the biggest mistake is I didn’t believe any of it. The humor almost always fell flat. The emotions almost always fell flat. I didn’t believe they were friends who consider each other family. At best they came across as coworkers who have spent years working together and know each other well. I didn’t believe in the lore surrounding magic/how the society works/etc. I didn’t believe either man actually had a thing for the “love interests” in the slightest.

I literally do not care about the main characters. I would not care at all if either died. There was no point where I was worried for them or rooting for them.

I kept hoping there would be a turning point and that would change... but it never happened.

The first book in any series is often the worst but it’s good enough that it makes you want to keep reading/listening because you know it’ll get better. This book did not make me want to keep reading/listening, at all.

It felt a lot like they accidentally published a first draft instead of a finished book.

good story

was a really good book and the narrator did very well but should not take drinks of water in the middle of reading. I understand needing to take a drink to keep your throat moist but pause the recording, take a drink and resume recording.

Reads for a high school audience.

Gave this author a shot and found the story to be a bit contrived. The characters were more annoying than interesting and the plot felt thin. The author tosses in magic, magic enchantments and creatures to the point where they mean nothing and the reader is left plodding through. Are the characters ever really in danger? Not really.

Very impressive!

I saw this advertised and thought I would give it a go as it is a genre I like and I was not disappointed! immersive, descriptive and humorous in its dialogue, it is an exception debut novel to a series which I will be eagerly keeping am eye out for in the future! Well done!

Brilliant listen

I really enjoyed this audio book, it's action packed and there is never a dull moment. Only problem is that it's a bit too short and got me wanting more.

A lot of writing clichés wrapped up in fantasy

Wasn't a big fan. The reader was alright, but the book wasn't very good.

A book written in the first perspective, it's from the PoV of Simon Strong, an immortal detective who spends a lot of time trying to be aloof and witty, usually at the cost of building a serious moment while falling consistently flat. He has sidekick - a British mage called "Montague", or "Monty" for short (it's very clear from how Montague is written that the writer has spent very little time talking with actual Brits), and a mystical Japanese sword who's origins aren't actually important, so a katana has just been picked for cool factor. He's trying to save the world, because the prophetic human embodiment of Karma has picked him.

The pacing of the book was pretty terrible, truth be told. There's no sense of suspense or build-up - the book refuses at any point to take a breath and slow down. Every scene is crammed with something, usually everyone talking at high speed, or a sort of listless fight that just started from no-where - after three or four of them happening back-to-back, they really lose any sense of meaning or impact. Brawling is just part of the logistics.

I feel one star is too harsh, because it's certainly not the worst book I've ever picked up or read, but it was a really joyless slog to get to chapter 13.

Captivating

Was really impressed with this book. A little confused about some of the details but all up I think the plot and future stories should be good.
