Cult of the Dead Cow is the tale of the oldest, most respected, and most famous American hacking group of all time. Though until now it has remained mostly anonymous, its members invented the concept of hacktivism. Today, the group and its followers are battling electoral misinformation, making personal data safer, and battling to keep technology a force for good instead of for surveillance and oppression. Cult of the Dead Cow shows how governments, corporations, and criminals came to hold immense power over individuals and how we can fight back against them.

Technical deficiencies
I normally don't leave many book reviews. But the author of this book lacks creditability in my opinion.
I was turned off immediately by two technical deficiencies.
1. SSL is NOT enough to protect ones privacy while using USENET. Even a junior SOC analyst can tell you SSL is susceptible to MITM (man in the middle) attacks. These attacks can be performed at the ISP level if they so chose. Not to mention, everyone knows SSL encryption is broken to NSA hacks. Google operation Bullrun
2. Theres no such thing as 722P. Its 720P and who watches 720P in 2019. When was this book written? 2006?
I usually love books like these, but this particular book is filled with incorrect information and I would trust a 12 year old kid over this author.
Sorry, but next time, ask a professional to fact check your next release.

Not serious, seems like research for cheap novel
Don't waste you time unless you are looking for advice on how to deal with you defaulting student loans, light in details, many wrong. I don't know if his coverage about how to break into Canada was valid but that is where I stopped. Much jargon, quite a bit miss used. Might have been compiled from help pages. For example most advanced discussion of Windows that I heard dealt with Windows 7. That is no longer supported buy Microsoft.

Anonymity vs Privacy
I found this book to be very helpful in several ways. A well explained distinction between the differences from anonymity vs. privacy, how if anonymity is important to you how you should think & approach establishing anonymity, a realistic warning of the discipline it takes to achieve true anonymity and lastly invaluable links to help you to get on the road to true anonymity. For this wealth of knowledge I think it’s only fair to give a 5 Star!!!

I don't know how this book has so many bad reviews maybe it's people who work for the NSA I thought this one was excellent It's actually written like a "BOOK" another words it has stories and actual entertainment value written in instead of just a drone of information you will learn some stuff but for the most part it's just entertaining I could listen to it a second time easy without complaints.

Informative but boring
Rather repetitive and very boring. I know this is supposed to be information, but it could still be more engaging and the facts could be in a better order, this way it just jumps neck and forth, while some subtopics are requested multiple times. There are a lot more interesting books about this topic, can't really recommend.
Not very suitably read either, seems like the reader wanted to make it sound like a crime thriller.
