Story
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Publisher's Summary
One of the most anticipated autobiographies of this generation, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall is the candid story by one of the world's most remarkable actors, businessmen, and world leaders.
Born in the small city of Thal, Austria, in 1947, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. Within 10 years, he was a millionaire businessman. After 20 years, he was the world's biggest movie star. In 2003, he was elected governor of California and became a household name around the world.
Chronicling his embodiment of the American Dream, Total Recall covers Schwarzenegger's high-stakes journey to the United States, from creating the international bodybuilding industry out of the sands of Venice Beach to breathing life into cinema's most iconic characters and becoming one of the leading political figures of our time. Proud of his accomplishments and honest about his regrets, Schwarzenegger spares nothing in sharing his amazing story.

Amazing. I wish I got the extended version!
Where does Total Recall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Being the first of it's kind that I've listened to, I'm very pleased with the quality and layout of this product.
What did you like best about this story?
How it doesn't end, and when it does, you're stuck wondering "where's the rest of it, that can't be all that happened!"
Any additional comments?
I was never a huge Arnold fan until I listened to this. Now I find myself needing to do more research into his life. I have to listen again for items I missed the first time, and go over all the lessons he insist you learn from this book. The last chapter really brings it home, the first chapter really lets you know why he is the way he is.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would most definitely recommend this book. I grew up watching Arnold movies and always found his story interesting. My expectations of this book was that it would be something to fill the time, but I didnt expect it to be so captivating.
What about Stephen Lang and Arnold Schwarzenegger ’s performance did you like?
Stephen Lang has an excellent narrative voice for this book, although I more thoroughly enjoyed Arnold's voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I definitely found myself making time to enjoy it. Great book.

Insightful
I will admit it: I came into this book because I wanted to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger narrate an audiobook. And while it was funny at first, I was soon hooked to the story of his rise to power. Stephen Lang, the primary narrator, covers most of the audiobook except the first and last couple of chapters.

If every American was forced to read or listen we would be so much better off. The ability to work hard and compromise and preserver is being lost in this country. Here is an example that would make even the greatest generations of America very proud. Flawed indeed like all of us, but incredibly driven and well intentioned. A great listen. Enjoy

An exemplary life, more relevant today than ever
Arnold grew up in difficult circumstances however his story is not one of pity and sympathy, but of perseverance, motivation and dedication. He uses events in his life to teach us how to overcome our own obstacles, and as an immigrant his story is very relevant and valuable in today's political climate.
I took one star off for performance because Arnold doesn't narrate the whole thing. Stephen Lang does a great job but it would have been great to hear Arnold do the whole thing.

He's Back...
Admit it, when this title first appeared in the ‘What’s New’ section of Audible, you probably smiled or even gave a light ‘Tut Tut’ and, thinking it to be just another celebrity vanity project, moved quickly on to more ‘serious’ books. But I’d like to suggest that you reconsider, as this book is full of surprises, and is an entertaining and very engaging read. It would be unfair to allow Arnold’s larger-than-life persona to put you off.
To start with the book is very well written, and engages the reader from the outset with tales of how Arnold grew up in post-war Austria. He eloquently describes how the men of his village never really came to terms with losing the war, and seemed unable to comprehend the austerity and hardships of their country, especially after all the promises that had been made of a new and rich empire that would rule the world.
Arnold’s stint of National Service, where he enrolled as a Tank Driver (“I like big machines”) is very funny as he was, by his own admittance, the worst tank driver they’d ever had. The high command were so relieved when he asked to be discharged early so he could pursue a job offer in Berlin that they signed his release papers there and then.
And within no time Arnold finds himself in California, where he took a variety of odd jobs to make a little cash while he worked tirelessly on his physique, one eye always on the Mr Universe title.
Anyone who knows anything about Arnold will know that whilst his persona is totally larger than life, he is not a stupid man, and those who underestimated him did so to their cost. He has always been driven to achieve his goals, and once reached he merely resets his sights somewhere else and moves onward and upward. Body-Building, Property, Films, Politics, he’s been there, done that and got a wardrobe full of T-Shirts.
Park your prejudices and give this title a try, it’s a very surprising read.

Good Story
Good story over all. Was good to hear Arnie's life story. I didn't know he was one of the people to lift the body building sport to the worlds attention back then. Lots to hear about in his life in general. He talks about Conan The Barbarian & Terminator the most (with regards to movies) but they only get 10 minutes each I'd say. Some of his movies only get a sentence. No ins & outs of the movie's. If only he spent as much time on his movie life as he did about being the governor. That part is yawn . For about an hour on the governor explaining why he made this & that decision (yawn).
I would recommend.... its Arnie...everyone loves Arnie, what a life.
32 Chapters..... Arnie reads the first & last 2

Many hours of entertainment!
I really enjoyed this book - it entertained me through many hrs of walking & gardening. Like others, I was disappointed when Arnold stopped reading as his voice is so soothing & interesting but Steven Lang’s deep voice was not too much of a departure & he did a good job. Being Australian, I did not know much about Arnie other than he was a bodybuilder, action figure & governor so I really enjoyed the journey & understanding of his achievements (though will be forever disappointed he cheated on his wife).

From Bob Beckel, the popular co-host of The Five on Fox News Channel, a deeply moving, redemptive memoir about his life as a political operative and diplomat, his long struggle with alcohol and drugs, and his unlikely journey to finding faith. Growing up poor in an abusive home, Bob Beckel learned to be a survivor: To avoid conflict, mask his feelings, and to lie - all skills that served him well in Washington, where he would become the youngest-ever Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and manage Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign.
