Publisher's Summary

My best friend’s little brother needs a bodyguard. Now I’m the one in danger...

I’m a SEAL. Or rather, I was. Retired at the grand old age of 38, I’m at loose ends. My best friend wants me to join his security team. I’m not sure I’m bodyguard material, but he needs someone to protect his kid brother. How hard can spoiled brat duty be?

Somehow, I missed the part where former child star Danny Love went from dorky TV darling to all grown up and disturbingly attractive. All the gossip about his wild ways fails to mention that he’s trying hard to clean up his act. But now he’s got a stalker.

Hiding out together in a remote mountain cabin alone, the temptation keeps building. I’m feeling things I never have before. Secrets I’ve kept even from myself bubble to the surface every time Danny looks my way with those puppy dog eyes.

I’m a SEAL. We leap into danger. So why is it so terrifying when that danger comes with the softest pair of lips I’ve ever known? At some point we’re going to have to return to Hollywood and our vastly different lives. Will Danny still want me around when he doesn’t need me for protection? Can I be brave enough to give him a reason to?

Tough Luck is book one in a brand-new SEAL bodyguard series. It features an age gap, steamy first times, and all the high heat, big emotions, and found family feels listeners expect from this fan-favorite military romance author.

Join A-List security for this lower-angst series featuring former SEALs and the celebrity clients who win their hearts.

Happy endings and no cliff-hangers guaranteed!

Cash & Danny

The Story

This book was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed Cash and Danny's story. Poor Danny has been dealt so many bad cards in his life that he's lost all confidence in himself and Cash has issues of his own. The two of them together make an unlikely pair but are so cute together! I loved seeing them get to know each other and build each other up despite their not so ideal childhoods. I can't wait to learn more about the other guys like Duncan and Harley!

The Narration

I really enjoyed Kirt Graves. I've never heard him before and he was so good at playing both characters. He gave Cash a gruff older jaded kind of voice and Danny a sweet younger voice. He has a very soothing voice that made listening to this story a lot of fun.

SAVE YOUR MONEY

This story is a struggle to get into. The 2 main characters are lost in life. Thrown together by circumstances and I guess will find each other. My 10 th grade English teacher would have said that the author is telegraphic the story to whom every was the suckered who bought this book. I do not blame the author yet the proof reader should be let go. Wow a HUGE WASTE. I bought it on audiobooks so can not even give it away. Run Do Not Buy!!!!!

Romantic to a Fault

I enjoyed it immensely, the story was one of true love. The narrator's voice I didn't care for that much, Danny's voice seemed too high pitched and almost had the same cadence as Cash. I tried altering the playback speed but it didn't help. But I couldn't stop listening and was very turned on by the story.

Fun but clunky at times

Fun story, and I don’t expect much from a story like this. But was overly clunky at times, with areas that felt like the writer was just trying f to reach a word number or something.

Fun, steamy "The Bodyguard" vibes

I like this book a lot and I think it dealt with some pretty important topics I was happy to see in a book of This genre.
Cash is just a very lovable character; you immediately want to be taken care of by him and give him a hug. And even if he and Danny started off kind of fast, it worked well in this story for me.
This book had a very good balance between romance and action. it actually had a bit more action then I was expecting but not too overpowering where every scene there's a new something going on with the characters. It was really nice I enjoyed it a lot.
The narrator was good but I like other narrators this author used in the past and would have been happier is they had narrated this book.

Danny Loves Cash

3.5 stars for the audio

Kirt Graves does a decent job with this story and the characters. I did like his voice choice for Cash more than Danny but at the same time, his voice was perfect for Danny. I did wish he would have emoted a bit more when reading Danny especially when it came to steamy scenes. He was a bit robotic for me 🤷🏽‍♀️ Overall though, I think he is a good narrator and does help bring this story to life through his reading.

Story Review

Cash has just retired from active duty. He is trying to figure out his next move in life. His former Lieutenant, Duncan, has offered him a job with his new security firm. Cash is not interested. However, when Duncan has to go out of town and his brother, Danny, is in need of some assistance Cash reluctantly agrees to check in on him.

Danny is a former child star and half-brother to Duncan. Danny is also a recovering addict who is trying to leave the Hollywood lifestyle behind. However, he finds himself with a stalker. This is where Cash comes in.

Due to Danny's stalker issue the two of them go into hiding at a cabin where they learn about each other on a more personal level.

There is force proximity
A sexual awakening (Cash has never been with a man.)
Age Gap

Overall an ok story. It was a bit of a slow start, gets a bit steamy and then slows down again. I did like how Cash never saw Danny as weak and would always provide encouraging words to him. They both wanted each other to think better of themselves. I wanted to dive a bit more into the family history because it seemed like an important part as to why the characters are the way they are. I do look forward to seeing where the rest of this series goes.

Opposites-Attract Bodyguard-With-Benefits Romance

Grumpy former Navy SEAL turned temporary bodyguard Cash (38) gets more than he bargained for in keeping sunny Hollywood star - and his friend/boss's younger brother - Daniel (25) safe.

With danger lurking and mutual attraction brewing, they hunker down in a remote cabin, where Daniel offers to be inexperienced Cash's no-strings "test drive" in exploring his sexuality. They grow closer as their steamy explorations lead to unspoken feelings developing.

The stalker plotline - which is at the core of this story - was not all that compelling and its easy resolution was pretty ho-hum in the end. Cash and Daniel finally admitting their feelings to each other and the world made for an ultimately satisfying HEA conclusion, though.

Narrator Kirt Graves always delivers with distinct voices and striking the right tone, and he gives another solid performance here. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily. [Story: 3.5 Stars]

Love these characters, can't wait for book 2

I read this book first and when I received the opportunity to review the audio version, I jumped on it. Kirt Graves did an amazing job and these guy's voices were spot on. I love how the audio just brings the story to life. I gave the ebook 4 stars but I'm giving the audio book 5.

Danny is a 25 year old ex-Hollywood child star, recovering addict, and half brother to retired Navy SEAL Duncan.

Cash is a 38 year old recently retired Navy SEAL and Duncan, Danny's half brother, was his Navy SEAL lieutenant.

Danny has a stalker, Duncan owns a security company named A-list Security (the series name) and Cash is currently unemployed. Duncan talks Cash into being Danny's bodyguard and Cash reluctantly agrees. Danny and Cash go off the grid and in to hiding while the police work on trapping the stalker. During this time together they bond and fall in love

Can't wait for book 2 in the series!!!

Age gap, best friend's brother, gay/bi awakening, forced proximity

Generic and Unremarkable

I've lost count of the number of formulaic MM books there are where the MC is a celebrity - has a new security guard with a past - and then the celeb is in some kind of danger - they go and hide in a cabin in the woods- lots of UST, then they get freaky - lifechanging sex- danger ends, then HEA.
Please, authors, is it too much to ask for an ORIGINAL story? I hoped this one would have a twist or something to make it shine but I was mistaken. I stuck with it cos I love Kirt Graves's narration, but the story was generic and unremarkable.

Amazing

I absolutely enjoyed this book!
Danny and Cash are polar opposites but the author has made them work so well together and absolutely believable.
They each had problems to deal with but they were exactly what the other needed in order to heal.
Kurt Graves did a fantastic job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Fun read and good audio

Story: An interesting story. It took me a bit to connect to Cash, but I got there.
The story has a lot if fun moments and a good overall plot idea. I was worried it would feel used up, as there are many bodyguard stories with a stalker theme, but it did not feel repetitive at all.
Narration: A very good performance! I liked Kirt Graves’ rendition of the characters.

Super emotional romance

I absolutely adored Danny and Cash, both vulnerable guys, searching for their HEAs. They're very different, but so perfect for one another. I could have cried for the pair of them and what they'd suffered during their childhoods. Both have a lot of soul searching to do, to work out what's best for them in the future. I'm not going to go into detail, no spoilers, and all that, just know it's, a wonderful story, full of feels and emotion. I loved the ending. Made me smile so much. Kurt Graves does a good job with the narration. 4.5 *s overall.

I liked it.

I enjoyed my time listening to this one, but I didn't think it's one of her best. I didn't get sucked into the story as much as I did with her other books, but I still really enjoyed it. If you like reading about ex military men, I would recommend it. :)

Tough Luck

Audio review: this was a well performed book with clear differences between the characters. Danny is sweet and has a vulnerability after a strange and confining upbringing. Cash is a fierce teddy bear who is finally discovering himself after a lifetime of military service. the book was heavy on the characters with small snippets of the drama that put them together. I enjoyed it, and look forward to the next.

Solid HEA

Light hearted kinda insta-love type story, but I loved the slow exploration of sexuality and emotional capability.
Feel good happily ever after and a nice collection of side characters for future books in this series.

Not a fan of the over romanticized idea of walking in and getting a rescue dog that is 'well behaved' and has almost no emotional trauma. As someone who has had experience with rescue dogs, this is a very dangerous idea to be putting out there.
