Publisher's Summary

What's worse than Australian wildlife? Mutated Australian wildlife.

Audiobook has been updated with all-new male narrator and voices!

The System Apocalypse has come to Australia, altering native organisms and importing even more menacing creatures to the most dangerous continent on Earth. For Kira Kent, plant biologist, the System arrives while she's pulling an all-nighter at work with her pair of kids in tow.

Now, instead of mundane parental concerns like childcare and paying the bills, she's got to figure out how to survive a world where already-deadly flora and fauna have grown even more perilous - all while dealing with the minutiae of the System’s pesky blue screens and Levels and somehow putting together a community of survivors to forge a safe zone to shelter her son and daughter.

It almost makes her miss the PTA fundraising sales. Almost.

Town Under is the first book in a new series, The System Apocalypse: Australia. It's set in the same universe as Tao Wong's The System Apocalypse and starts in the same time period as Life in the North, but focuses on the changes on the deadliest of continents, Australia. Fans of the original series, LitRPG, fantasy, science fiction, and post-apocalyptic novels will want to take a look.

Audio narration adjusted on 2022/01/29.

Phenomenal

I loved everything about this book, and cannot wait for the sequel. A great expansion to the System Apocalypse universe, and I didn't have the problem with the male voices others seem to.

Great

Great continuation of world. But dont understand why all male characters had to talk with mouth full of marbles. Every time the male characters talked it was hard to understand

Never a disappointment

I have loved K.T. Hanna's work in the past, and this new series shows just as much potential. A fun read, with characters I can fall in love with and root for!

Andie and Hays put a lot of work in this, and I can't thank them enough for helping me immerse myself in the story.

Houston, we have Narration Problem

The unfortunate thing regarding this book is that it had potential. However, it falls short because of how the male voices are narrated; they all sound the same—men who have decided to put marbles in their mouths. Sadly I find it difficult to recommend this book.

Captivating and heartfelt!

Taking into account the background of the main character, the accent and narration were on point. The addition of the male voice only heightened the experience.

The story follows a mother who only wants to protect her family and the authors stayed true to that. From start to finish I was pulled in and it never let me go. I'm excited to discover what happens next.

Male voice so bad

Male voice totally ruined book for me. Story and concept was very good. Just cringed every time I heard the male voice.

Please re-record the male voices and re-release

would've given the performance a better score, but for the love of god... the male voices ALL sound like a vaguely aussie dude that's about to have a triple bypass, heavy breathing and all. Female narrator was good. story was good. But jesus, male voice makes it almost unlistenable. I found myself hoping that the story only included females and kids.

just great

The only thing wrong with this book was the performance by Hays McGee. I don't know if he always sounds like he's gargling rocks or if it's just a bad quality recording. if Andrea Parsneau recorded the whole thing I would've enjoyed it even more. I feel like I need subtitles for most of what Hays says. The story though is great, it's like revisiting an old favorite on hard mode and with a different perspective. I think K.T. Hanna brings a lot to the system apocalypse, don't get me wrong I love John Lee Redeemer of the dead but it's nice to see things from non spoiled whiney loner perspective.

In short buy this audio book and thank me later.

update
Having Heath Miller re record the male voices makes this just about perfect now.

Very one dimensional characterisation...

Town Under by @KTHanna and @tr_wong. Narrated by @veryheathmiller and @MouthyMaven, this book could have been very special but I feel the characters lacked personalities. With that said, I loved how both narrators joined forces: I want to hear more please 📚3/5🌟#bookreview

Worth the read

I’m an Aussie, so I loved the jokes and realism of the story from an Aussie perspective — also having read the OG system apocalypse series I loved how it fit in. It’s now one of my top 2 series with Aussie MC — it’s great to be represented 😅

But. I really am not a fan of the accents. Really. As in really really not a fan. I could barely understand the guys most of the time. Sure, laid back Aussies have a big drawl (and there is a lot of us that do), but a lot of us also sound like we open our mouths and don’t have a blocked nose. Also the women definitely sounded like kiwi or South African more than Aussie. Sorry Andrea — I love your work, but honestly I would have preferred your normal voices than what you gave for most of the women.
In this case when you were faced with actors who couldn’t do the accent, I think it would have been better to go clearer and more neutral accents so the story was easier to hear and follow along.

TL;DR
I love love loved the story (yay for an Aussie POV) but I will admit I spent a heck of a lot of time rewinding when the guys spoke, and thinking about how me, a random non-voice actor Aussie, would have done those voices more accurately and clearer.

Unintentionally hilarious.

Love the world.
Love the setting (my home town)
Love Andrea parsneau.
Love the hilarious male Aussie accents!!! I suspect someone showed Andrea the “Darren and Damo” vids on you tube. I lol every time a male character talks!

An excellent addition to the series!

This book was awesome, as an Australian I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of it! For myself I never had any issues with any of the accents, Heath (who's an aussie himself) did a good portion of the male characters and Andrea was excellent with all the others.

In all honesty I know that the Australian accent can be an exceedingly fickle mistress for people not from here to pin down with 100% accuracy, it's easy to veer off into a bit of kiwi or south African, it happens. So long as the narrator gives it a good crack and doesn't go all croc Hunter on me I'm all good!

I cannot wait for the next one!!!
