Publisher's Summary

They are my harvest, and I will reap them all.

Returning to Guthrie, Oklahoma, for the funeral of his mysterious and beloved aunt, Sue, Adam Binder once again finds himself in the path of deadly magic when a dark druid begins to prey on members of Adam’s family. It all seems linked to the death of Adam’s father many years ago - a man who may have somehow survived as a warlock.

Watched by the police, separated from the man who may be the love of his life, compelled to seek the truth about his connection to the druid, Adam learns more about his family and its troubled history than he ever bargained for, and finally comes face-to-face with the warlock he has vowed to stop.

Meanwhile, beyond the Veil of the mortal world, Argent the Queen of Swords and Vic the Reaper undertake a dangerous journey to a secret meeting of the Council of Races...where the sea elves are calling for the destruction of humanity.

Waiting impatiently for book 3

Love this series! It was good to see how they each moved on from the events of book 1. I have mixed feelings about the love triangle as I want them all to be happy. Unfortunately the plot basically blew up in the last few minutes and now we wait for the third book.

Michael David Axtell did a great job narrating. He's got a wide range of voices and really brings the story to life.

NOTE: I don't know if there were any warnings in the beginning of the book, but I think there should be a head's up for the brief yet graphic depictions of child abuse throughout. It would be triggering to some.

A Great Second Act!

With the same mix of edge of your seat energy and deep, provocative plotting that the first book in the series provided, Slayton explores some of the most complex parts of human behavior. Adam and the cast of characters around him have to grapple with an awful lot: the relationship between internal identity, external identity and self-worth, between what's legal and what's right, and the fact that someone can love and fear, love and hate, or even love and destroy at the same time. The novel explores the coping strategies that we learn at one point in our lives, which can hold us back at another stage of life in a fashion that's both loving and a little bit humorous. Oh, yeah: and all this is happening while magic is causing blackberry canes to grow up through the floor and rattlesnakes to attack!
The threads of deep awareness give depth to a tapestry of magic, wits, hex craft, and grinding poverty that definitely needs more stories told about it. The power and humanity of these stories is incredible. And so is the magic. As a side note, the reader rocked the performance! The voicing he gave to every character was spot on, The way he acted out the antagonist put shivers right down my spine!
A great listen, one that makes me excited for the next installment.

Oh dear..

This has gotten silly. I must have stumbled into Young Adult fiction by mistake. I enjoyed the first book in the series, in that there were at least things happening that kept me entertained and engrossed- while it felt pretty young adult-ish in its dialogue and overall level of gravity. This installment is far too heavy on internal dialogue: way too many thoughts and feelings going on, and they’re all a bit adolescent, even if they’re in the context of a situation that’s supposed to have consequences as dire as any that could exist.

For the first book, I could accept the narration, but on this one, the way all of the elves are voiced is just too much: it’s really just silly. But, the lines they are given are so predictable and type-cast that there’s only so much a narrator can do with them.

I’m about a third of the way through and find myself bored with the simplistic dialogue and irritated with the characters and premise. Shoot. This may have to go back as well..

A work of art

The narrator is once again wonderful. His Spanish accent could use some work but we can forgive him that. The author once again shows a mastery of his world and his prose. What a wonderful tale. What a wonderful setting. Expertly told and amazing, the writer immerses us in his world. This man plays tricks on the reader leading them in one direction and then swerving unexpectedly. He shows compassion to his characters while putting them through the reader. this book is a work of art.

Nonstop supernatural intrigue.

So far I love this series. The narrator did an excellent job. Major cliffhanger at the end and now I can't wait for the next book.

Totally hooked

I'm totally hooked and invested in all the characters although I'd imagined Adam's Mum to be elderly and was a bit miffed to discover she's younger than me! Family dynamics and blossoming love make these stories just as exciting as the magical trials.

Too little of Vic and Adam together!

I loved the first book and I love this one too, but one of the most catching things (to me) was Vic and Adam's relationship. In my opinion, they spent too much time apart from each other in this book. It was great that they had their alone time to figure out their feelings for each other, but they should have had more time to mend their relationship.

I enjoyed listening to this but not as good as book 1

The story was good , although didn’t have the same depth as the first and less interaction between some characters which meant some reactions seemed emotionally shallow .
Story left on a cliff hanger / unfinished story and felt shorter - at this time the 3rd isn’t on audible.
I enjoyed listening to this but not as good as book 1

Excellent!

The story is gripping, the characters are intriguing, the writing is so descriptive without being overwhelming and flowery. 🥰🙏🏽💖

I had Read the first book 'White Trash Warlock', and I had been so eager to read the next book! I wasn't disappointed!!!!🏅
I highly recommend these books if you like a dark magic vibe with humorous touches, tension in real world relationships as well as in other worlds, epic disasters and humble heroes.
Also , having a gay/ bisexual love story that is important but also not the only important thread, is pretty cool!
I don't really know what else to say other than, the narration was to notch too! 🏆
Thank you David R.Slayton for such enthralling stories, I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK! And thank you Michael David Axtell for bringing these stories to life so vividly through your narration!
5 stars for everything!!! 😍🤩⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great book.

It is really refreshing to get a book with well written LGBTQ+ characters and a solid narrative rather than something poorly written that can sit under an LGBTQ+ category and hope people read it. This reminds me of the Dresden Files series of books in the solid pace of the story and the well-blended mix of supernatural and human investigative worlds. The themes of sexuality, mental illness, poverty, and aspiration are well handled and there is humour to balance the sense of threat, A really enjoyable read well performed that delivers everything it promises.

Brilliant follow up to White Trash Warlock!

David R. Slayton upped the game with this one! The story picks up after the ending of White Trash Warlock with Adam rushing back to Guthrie to find out what happened to Sue. This story, like the last one, has family at the heart of it. The relationships between the Binder's, the Elves and Vic's family are all braided into the centre of this story and it makes for a beautiful and emotional tale! This book also featured Vic's POV which brought a fresh angle to Adam's story. I loved getting to see the Binder's and the Elves from the perspective of an outsider and getting a Vic's eye view into Adam and his connection. As always the narration was fabulous and really helped bring the story to life! Will be very impatiently waiting for the next installment!

Great listen.

A very interesting listen. For a free audiobook have zero complaints. After the first book I went looking for the second fully prepared to purchase it and was thoroughly delighted In my luck that it was also free!
Makes me think a little bit of skulduggery Pleasant but darker and more mature.
I’d also like to give props to the underpowered main hero it’s a nice change.

Even better than the first book

Really enjoying this series now. Vic and Adam are the best, unique partnership. Very twisted magic from a dark Druid who emerges from the past. A window into bleak trailer park life. Excited for the next chapter 💀👻
