Great Foundation
Nothing like a long road trip to get through an audiobook in a hurry!
I'm new to ultrarunning. Last year, I set my sites on R2R2R/Grand Canyon as a way to motivate my recovery from an Achilles rupture. I loved both the training and the run and have officially caught the bug. Up to this point, I've trained on my own, with little in the way of coaching. This book gives me the basis for a more systematic approach to my next two events - a 35-miler in March and a 100km at the end of the summer. Listening along, a topic would come up and spark "what if's" that would invariably be answered in the next section. While this book is definitely an overload of information, it gives me a great foundation to understand ultrarunning and will be a resource for years to come.

Great information based on data without gimmicks
I wish I would’ve had this book 10 years ago before tackling races like Western states, UTMB, and Hardrock. Jason Koop Provides advice based on that data while also acknowledging areas where we still have more to learn. His approach to training, race strategy, and advice for crew/pacers makes a lot of sense. I look forward to implementing his concepts in training.

Audiobook in Podcast Style!
This audiobook is awesome! Whoever told Jason it was a bad idea was crazy. I find that I learn best listening to content like this while being able to reference it in the hard copy. I found the scientific detail much easier to digest a comprehend in this format. The fact that Koop set this up like a podcast with guest speakers and experts makes it even better.

Whether you are new to ultrarunning or you already have experience, this book is a fantastic tool that covers absolutely everything you could think of. It's also a big improvement over the first edition. I loved the addition of interviews with other experts.

Great listen while training/running...
I would have never thought this audio format would work for this book. I first bought the printed version, but found that the combination of audiobook and physical copy would even be better.
Now I use the physical copy as my reference guide and listen to the audio book (or specific chapters) during my long runs or training sessions.
The audio book includes several guest speakers from the world of exercises science to go over a specific subject within the grand scope of the chapter in a bit of a podcast-style interview. This way the audiobook becomes so much more than a boring read, but turns it into a great format to gain knowledge about ultrarunning.

would recommend from novice runner
found it great as someone relatively new to running. Some useful info for any beginner or someone not been running for a long time. I would expect most seasoned runners especially trail runners will know most of the stuff in here already. some great info on qualifying for some ultras, and how to enter if ballot or not etc.
