Publisher's Summary

Travis Hale has it all. An important role as the chief of police in the idyllic town of Pelion, Maine. Looks that regularly and consistently make women fall at his feet. Two nephews and a niece he adores, and a family who’s mostly forgiven him after a series of unfortunate decisions years before. Perhaps his past is riddled with regrets and misguided choices, but his future looks bright and limitless.

Until the new guy in town crosses him in a way both shocking and indefensible.

A guy who, as it turns out, has a sister who may be equally as disastrous to Travis’s well-ordered plans, though in an altogether different manner. Not that there’s any real risk of him falling for the smoothie-making, birdseed-eating wild woman. She’s not even his type. A plant lady from California with a head of unruly curls and an equally messy past. More than that, she’s only in town for the summer, busy mooning over perfect-in-every-way Gage Buchanan.

And if Travis knows anything, it’s that he refuses to be second best. Ever again.

Haven Torres’ life fell apart. Or more to the point, it burned to the ground. At the time, it seemed like a solid idea to jump in her car, her brother a mostly-willing co-pilot, and embark on a cross-country adventure.

When they land jobs at an exclusive tennis and golf club in a picturesque lake town in Maine, Haven’s hopeful it might prove a summer to remember. Especially if she can catch the attention of the most eligible bachelor in town and her current crush. Even the kindest, most upstanding, perfect of men aren’t opposed to summer flings, right?

But when she meets the local police chief - all swagger and arrogance - and learns of her brother’s scandalous misdeed, she knows that Pelion is just another town where their stay is best...short-lived. Still, she and Travis strike up an unlikely friendship and Haven sees that the gorgeous lawman isn’t only easy on the eyes, but he has...layers. Not that she’s going to peel any of them. He’s only her friend. A friend willing to scratch her back, if she scratches his.

It seems simple enough. She’ll help him make her brother sweat a little. And he’ll help her win over Gage. But before either Travis or Haven knows it, simple turns complicated, friendship gets flipped on its ear, passion faces down perfection, and they both discover that sometimes you have to lose it all to find exactly what you need.

LOVED,LOVED, LOVED TRAVIS' STORY!!

What an amazing narration!!! Redemption, revenge, love, turmoil, life's choices, hope, in amazing twists and turns in every chapter! From one page to the next I fell more and more in love withTravis and Haven. Everyone has a past. Most have many things they have done that they're not proud of and would erase if they could. Redemption and Forgiveness go hand and hand. My heart went out to every single character in this book. Love can overcome anything! Mia's books always give me so many tingles and emotions! Her writing is so wonderfully constructed it honestly has me in awe of her mind and writing capabilities. Always wish I could rate a million stars! And definitely two narrators that were completely perfect for this book!

Not reminiscent of Mia Sheridan characters

I made it to chapter 5 and decided to return it. The narrators didn't fit the main characters and the main characters remain in the shadows of Bree and Archer, who were two intense, thought-provoking, relatable characters from her book "Archer's Voice." Perhaps the narrators could have brought the characters to life (which seems to happen in almost all Mia Sheridan's books), but they fell flat and didn't suit their respective characters.

A beautiful love story.

How I loved diving back into this town! I am so happy the author gave us more from these wonderful people. I loved seeing how far Travis had come in his personal journey and the ending was simply beautiful. I definitely recommend this love story and this author. The audio version of this was simply perfection. I hope the author decides to give us more either through Gage or Easton. I can't recommend this book and series enough.

Good, not great!

I've read all of Mia Sheridans books and pretty much love all of them. this wasn't my favorite but still a really good read. Was hoping for more depth from the characters. But loved the fact that the female lead had men after her and not the male lead for once. I'm tired of romances where the male lead is so incredibly hot and all the women in the world want him and blah blah. Can the woman be wanted for once? Appreciated that here.

Loved it but…

I loved the story and the book but the inheritance thing seems very unrealistic. How can fortune just be passed down to one brother and not the other. It just doesn’t work that way. If you said control of the town then yes but a parent wouldn’t realistically give all the money to one sibling and leave the other fending for themselves. It really bugged me.
Apart from that I love the story and the characters. It’s definitely worth that read.

It is a book I like

The narrators were really good. The lady narrator is up there with Maxine Mitchell I’ll say. Loved the story, really enjoyed the angst feelings
Havens past is super sad and traumatizing… which so is Travis’ past but so differently than hers. All of it is effd up - poor kids.
I liked getting to read about archer and Bree.

So nice

This was such a good complex romance ❤ not quite a slow burn but many obstacles to overcome.
Trigger warning for cheating 😬😡

Wonderful continuation!

Having just read Archer's Voice, which I think all readers should do before reading this book, I wasn't sure what I wanted to happen to Travis, as there was so much history!

Having said this, the books are very different and shouldn't be compared as they have their own merits.

The author did a wonderful job of peeling back the layers which made up Travis and you become invested in ensuring that he also is deserving of a happy ending!

Haven was a delightful character and so too was Easton and all the misfits at the B&B, which made for another wonderful, quirky and heartwarming story.

The epilogue was a true delight and this author can do no wrong in my eyes.

The narration was excellent and I can't wait to read about Gage and Easton!
