Story
Buried in the depths of the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Japan, lies one of the greatest drowned secrets of World Wart Two - a crashed B-29 bomber that was carrying a third atomic bomb to Japan in 1945. Its deadly cargo, lost in the sea for nearly 50 years, is at the heart of this classic Dirk Pitt thriller, in which a small group of Japanese nationalist fanatics, dreaming of a new Nipponese Empire, set out to neutralise and blackmail the USA - with nuclear weapons planted strategically in the country's major cities....

Outside Denver, Colorado, Joe Rickards stands over a small aircraft wreckage, studying burnt remains still smoldering in a field of freshly fallen snow. He's an investigator for the NTSB, working to carefully roll back the last several hours and identify the cause of the accident. But this time, he can't.

Half a century ago, an aberration was spotted by one of our earliest satellites, and summarily dismissed as a hardware malfunction. But it was no aberration. And no malfunction. It was an accidental glimpse of something extraordinary, and very old. Mocked for decades, the man who designed the satellite is now dead. With the system's original data firmly in the hands of former NTSB investigator Joe Rickards and anthropologist Angela Reed.

Publisher's Summary
A Sunday Times best seller.
The ninth gripping thriller in the classic Dirk Pitt series, where the adventurer finds himself in a deadly battle against the darkest forces of international terrorism.
On behalf of a grateful nation I wish to thank you for this astonishing gift....
The President of the United States had reason to be grateful. Dirk Pitt had unearthed the greatest storehouse of knowledge in the ancient world: the Alexandria Library.
The trail began in a lonely fjord in Greenland. It ended on the banks of the Rio Grande. In between Pitt had frustrated an assassination, rescued a hijacked liner, survived a deadly gun battle and halted an invasion.
A gripping, action-packed story by a master of the craft.

The excessice profanity was not needed.
I love all Clive's books. But this is one you can not listen to with kids in the car. I was really surprised . His books are usually clean . There are a few of us that have not accepted profamity as normal comminication. I hope he drops the bad language.

Wow, what a story!
I've read this book, and all Cussler Classics, many-many times ove the last 20 some odd years; quite refreshing to hear it! I put these on in the background while I'm remodeling houses, and have to say that it makes the work glide by.
Cussler is a master at spinning tales of intrigue with historical what-ifs mixed in; Treasure, Sahara, Inca Gold, Deep Six... just incredible!
Narration was great too! I swear the guy sounded like Kelsey Grammar though.

Awesome first read of Cussler. However the end lost my interest
It was great right through. It felt real and it hooked me for many sessions. But the end seemed to lose me - it felt a bit far fetched and I was asking myself “what/where did all this come from? And how is that even possible and the last 30 minutes could have been more realistic.
Worth reading though :)
