Story
Ansley Park is one of Atlanta’s most desirable neighborhoods. But in one mansion, in a teenager’s lavish bedroom, a girl has been savagely murdered. In the hallway, her horrified mother stands amid shattered glass, having killed her daughter’s attacker with her bare hands. Detective Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is here only to do a political favor; the murder site belongs to the Atlanta police. But Trent soon sees something the cops are missing, something in the trail of blood, in a matrix of forensic evidence, and in the eyes of the shell-shocked mother.

Story
A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it's only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer's twisted work becomes clear. Spoiler Alert
Any additional comments?
This fabulous series follows Karin Slaughter's "Grant County" series. In Books 3 & 4 of this "Will Trent" series, the author brings in key characters from older series. If you listen to the Will Trent series first, you will spoil the gut-wrenching finish to the Grant County series. I have read every one of these books and loved them but I think the character development throughout means it is important to pay attention to the sequencing. I had to figure out the sequencing the hard way - so I wanted to share this with my fellow listeners.Highly Recommended - These books have made me a serious Karin Slaughter fan! Thanks audible for having them all so we don't have to wait a year between publication dates.

Want to love it
I have been listening to some Karin Slaughter books, and loved them, so I thought I’d start at the beginning of the Will Trent series. I want to love this book, as the reviews and summaries sound amazing. Unfortunately, I can not get past the narrators voice. His intonation actually bothered me to the point I am just going to buy the book and read it myself.

Painful, intense, graphic
I couldn’t stop listening to this book. It was intriguing. However the graphic sexual abuse was hard to get through- at times I felt so sick I almost couldn’t go on. I realize that it was very much appropriate for the nature of the story, and the characters. Just be warned, the wide range of sexual abuse may trigger some. The narrator did a fantastic job!!!

Remarkable Mystery, Storytelling by a Master!
This is the first installment of the Will Trent series, but I started with books 7 & 8. It's just not necessary to read them in order. Still, Triptych is a masterfully spun tale of murder, rape and betrayal.
The first part of the story revolves around the investigation of a series of brutal murders of prostitutes as seen from the perspective of veteran Atlanta PD detective Michael Ormewood. Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Will Trent is brought in as a profiler. Officer Angela Polaski is working undercover in vice.
But in Hitchcockian form, Slaughter slowly reveals the same investigation from an entirely different perspective. This is one of best mysteries I've read... Really all 3 books I've read have been page turners. Her story telling is as deeply personal as it is riveting. I was drawn in to each character's story, something I find rare even in good mysteries.
Michael Kramer does a good job with narration and his accents are accurate, if a bit drawn out. His baritone voice tends to grind on me a bit. Nevertheless he does a fine job with every character.
I am new to Karin Slaughter's work, but so far she's hit 3 home runs with Triptych, Criminal and Unseen!

Creative thriller, but really dark
This story was impressive in the way that it revealed details and brought together seemingly disparate stories. It held my attention and had me on the edge of my seat much of the time. I listen almost exclusively to thrillers, but have to share that this one was more difficult to listen to than most. The content was quite dark and disturbing, the descriptions of which were vivid. I almost felt as if it should come with a content warning (though one can expect violence and depravity in any thriller I suppose), which is what ultimately motivated me to write a short review. I found myself cringing much more than usual while listening and having the details make me wary to sleep, particularly the descriptions of rape.
Otherwise, I liked the main characters despite them being voiced with a southern accent that was grating and overdone and will likely continue with this series to follow what happens to them. It’s a good book, just listen knowing what you’re getting into!

One of the best mysteries I've ever read
This book is outstanding in every way. The plotting was incredible. The surprises left me gasping. This is the start of the Will Trent series, to which I am now addicted. I don't want to say too much because I hate spoilers. If you like mysteries and police thrillers and can take some gritty things this is for you.

Narration ruined it for me :(
I generally really enjoy Karin Slaughter, but the narration on this actually made me stop listening. The cadence and pitch of the narrator were grating and it was very difficult to distinguish from one character to the next. I wish I had listened to a sample before I purchased this book, I never would have wasted my credit. Gave the story line one star only because I was unable to sit through the reading.

Really rough material
This one's not for the kids. I gave it 3 stars simply because the material was so black, it was hard to enjoy at times. Prison rapes, sadistic and mean killings, and a universe of emotionally warped people (both the good and the bad guys). This is one twisted world this book is set in. All that said, I enjoyed the story and the way it was told.
People have commented on the narrator. I agree, he's a poor choice for a book about Southerners, but I was able to get beyond that. My issues with this book were content-related.

So many inaccuracies
As someone with personal experience with the working of a prison, I found this book extremely hard to get through due to the inaccuracies.
Prisons do not allow people to just one day walk up and visit and inmate, yet alone someone on parole.
People are not allowed to bring items in for inmates.
Minors are not housed with adults in prisons.
Inmates are not all looking for gay sex and openly flirting with other men in prisons.
If an inmate was raped they would be moved, this wouldn't require someone's family member on the outside to request.
I also found it unrealistic that a woman who loves having sex with johns would be a cop. And that she could get sexually assaulted by a cop and none of her coworkers would believe her. This was a totally ridiculous part.
This book could have been good if only the author did her research. It was her idea of how prisons run and she told a story based on those inaccuracies. What a shame. I am no longer interested in her other books since she probably won't research for those as well. Would not recommend.
