Publisher's Summary

Rachel Morgan must keep her friends close—and her enemies closer—in the next Hollows novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison.

Rachel Morgan, witch-born demon, has one unspoken rule: Take chances, but pay for them yourself. With it, she has turned enemies into allies, found her place with her demon kin, and stepped up as the subrosa of Cincinnati—responsible for keeping the paranormal community at peace and in line.

Life is...good? Even better, her best friend, Ivy Tamwood, is returning home. Nothing’s simple, though, and Ivy’s not coming alone. The vampires’ ruling council insists she escort one of the long undead, hell-bent on proving that Rachel killed Cincy’s master vampire to take over the city. Which, of course, Rachel totally did not do. She only transformed her a little.

With Rachel’s friends distracted by their own lives and problems, she reaches out to a new ally for help—the demon Hodin. But this trickster has his own agenda. In the end, the only way for Rachel to save herself and the city may be to forge a new understanding with her estranged demon teacher, Al. There’s just one problem: Al would sell his own soul to be rid of her....

What a story!!

Great story. I knew the newest book in the Hollows series was going to be awesome but it hit a whole new level of badassery!

Rachel, as always, finds herself knee deep in vampire and demon mischief, this time though, she’s in deeper then ever. Without her friends and a few dozen prayers she may be too far in the hole to get out agin.

There is drama, laughter and a few moments of cursing (I got invested, what can I say). Just when I thought I knew what was going g to happen and what they’d need to do… it would change. Talk about an edge of the seat read. Man, I love this series so much.

And that ending…. Just dang man. I didn’t see that coming! Rachel is getting better and better at thinking on her feet and it just May be enough to keep her out of a grave…. Only time will tell with her though, the night is still young.

Ms. Gavin’s voice. What happened?

I just went back and listened to Ms. Gavin‘s voice circa 2014 (Book 13). I realize that there is a six year gap between book 13 and book 14. And women’s voices naturally tend to lower in pitch as we get older. However, The drastic drop and Ms. Gavin’s vocal register, (barring any health issues 🤞🙏🏼), sounds like 6 years of accumulated vocal chord damage caused by heavy smoking. (And probable overuse of voice ) The raspy vocal fry level even from book 15 to 16 is more noticeable. Her acting, is still stellar and completely believable. However, for me, it’s not a pleasant sound anymore. The difference between some of the male and female characters voices are not as distinct. Nor do they sound their age.
Maybe it’s my vocalist background/training, but listening to this most recent narration makes me want to recommend a good ENT Who specializes in healing vocal cord damage. Especially for someone who has built a fantastic career around their vocal mechanism.

Another great story

I’ve loved every Hollows story. Rachel, Ivy, and Jenks - and Trent - are beloved characters. Marguerite Gavin has been an awesome narrator giving life to all the characters for the entire series. But I had to double check who was narrating this time because the voice is so different for this book. It made a huge difference for me because I was expecting the same narration continuity from all the previous books. Still a good story.

I miss the fun

Listen, I love Kim Harrison's Hollow series. I'm ecstatic that she decided to go past book 13 which was supposed to be her final book. I miss the fun, there's always life and death drama but there was always laugh out loud fun, the last couple books have lacked that, this one was just depressing. I miss all the characters together, although she did introduce a great new character that potentially will lead to a new and interesting story line. But there are a few people that were barely even mentioned, some not mentioned at all. I've listened to the series many times, I may not listen to this one again until right before book 17 is released. Kim Harrison said she's going to keep writing until she catches up the fabulous ending of A Witch With No Name. PS I wish there was a way to somehow bring back Ceri.

It's good to be back in the Hollows

This series! It feels like you've just put on your favorite outfit and are about to kick some ass. Rachel Morgan has come a long way and just like the rest of us still has a long way to go. Rachel is not perfect. She is impulsive and makes LOTS of mistakes. That is what makes her real. She will make you cringe, but she will also make you cheer.

One of my favorite things about this series, and in particular this book, is that while Rachel is still a superhero (super witch/demon) on her own, she is unstoppable because of her friends and allies the support and love her. It reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy is the chosen one, but it's her Scooby Gang that keeps her around and alive. You aren't just fighting Rachel as a bad guy, you're taking on her whole squad, plus all of the citizens in Cincinnati who love her.

As always, Marguerite Gavin gives an incredible performance. She makes you forget that you are listening to one person and not a full cast recording. *chefs kiss*

This book ties up some storylines from previous books, but also creates new (ley) lines to follow for the next one, and I can't wait to travel them all with Rachel and the gang.
