Publisher's Summary

When a billionaire dies, an innocent woman is blamed. One lawyer must fight a wealthy family for justice.

It seems straightforward to Attorney Nate Shepherd: a middle-aged billionaire dies while celebrating at a wedding reception. The grief-stricken family lashes out, though, blaming the billionaire’s date for his death. When the family brings all of its power to bear, the wheels of local justice threaten to overwhelm the woman.

As Nate Shepherd steps in to defend her, he tries to deflect the misplaced anger that’s directed at the woman for the tragedy. But as the investigation progresses, a tangled history unravels, including unexpected ties to Nate’s own life. And with each secret that is uncovered, the stakes rise until Nate finds himself fighting for the woman’s freedom in a trial for her life.

Can Nate Shepherd protect an innocent client from a family trying to buy its own brand of justice?

This is the second book in the gripping Nate Shepherd Legal Thriller series. If you like razor-sharp dialogue, iron-willed characters, and slippery moral quandaries, then you’ll love this fierce courtroom drama.

Great storyline but a few annoying mannerisms

This was a very good book. I kept going back and forth believing the defendant’s story, and then doubting her innocence, as I listened to the book. Mr. Newbern did a fantastic job narrating, as always. I usually try to select books with courtroom drama. However, this book continued Attorney Shepard’s two very annoying habits that existed in Book 1: 1) he belabored every point during cross examination that made me want to scream, “Asked and answered!” I began to wonder if the author got paid by the word count! 2) Each witness answered “I did”., “I did not”, “he did”, “he did not”. It seemed so unrealistic; most people would just answer Yes or No. It became so predictable that it made me cringe as I waited for it. I admit, it didn’t happen quite as much as in Book 1, but was still very obvious, and I’m not sure I want to listen to Book 3, but hopefully Mr Stagg will change the courtroom witness dialogue to be a little more realistic. Other than these annoying features,I did enjoy his first two Nate Shepherd books!

As if the author read my review of book 1

Through with book 2, it was as enjoyable as book 1, which I also reviewed and in there mentioned that there were several opportunities for twists and turns in book 1 that the author, Michael Stagg, did not take. That was my only critique \ disappointment with the book 1, that it was a little too straight forward.

And as if the author read my review, there is a twist in book 2. I'll not say when or where, so as not to spoil the story, suffice to say, because book 1 was was so straight forward, I did not see it coming. On to book 3: Blind Conviction. [Smile]

All American Attorney

I love the Nate Shepherd character and his values. I love that he is an incredible Uncle, brother, son and friend. Yes, and attorney! I can’t stop listening and I’m jumping to the next book after this review.

I'm confused

The ending was to convoluted to understand. Too much emphasis on trees. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I did the 1st series

Excellent book couldn’t wait to wake up and get back to it. This is book two and both are great. Narrator is my favorite. Drop a coin on it you won’t be disappointed!!!

A must listen to series

The narrator is one of the best out there. Instead of just a reader, Newbern performs which keeps you engaged. The courtroom presentation are legit and are what take place everyday. I’m hooked on both the author and narrator.

Best yet! Well Worth a Credit

It’s getting harder for me to find really good books with good narrators lately. “True Intent” got me out of the slump! Fast pace, good intrigue, & quality production came together for a great book!

Great defense story.

I enjoy the rambling story that was interesting, intriguing, didn't know if she was innocent or guilty...

Expecting a replica of Book 1 but pleasantly proved wrong, at every turn. Highly recommend.

Enjoyable with great narration

Enjoyed this book but liked the first one, that was included in membership, more. Bit predictable but I think I'll end up buying the next in the series just to see how it develops.

This is the Second audiobook in the Nate Shepherd series. Not quite as good as the first but a brilliant listen all the same

Uninspiring

Well narrated. Lasted an hour. There was nothing to hook my interest after meeting the players, remeeting Nate's family, meeting the "suspect", hearing about the "crime", in total contradiction to Book 1.

Nate himself it just not interesting enough to warrant the time commitment to get through this book.

True Intent

This is the second audio book I've listened to by Micharl Stagg and thoroughly enjoyed both. Great characters and the story lines keep me listening. I love George Newbern as the narrator and he really brings the characters to life. Worth a listen.

really like these books...

characters are interesting but I have to say that if this is how the American justice system works, you can see why they have the highest incarceration rates in the world

no bad

not as good as the first book. What I do find irritating is how the Author writes all characters dialogue in the same staccato style, I do, I did, we did. Surely someone can have a longer response to a question occasionally

Excellent Narration

I have enjoyed book one and two of the Nate Shepherds series , i have just purchased book three. What makes these books special is the excellent narration from George Newbern. He brings the characters to life. My only real concern is that there is only four books in the series .

Very enjoyable

Excellent voice performance again. Enjoyed it more than the first in the series (which I did also like) and am looking forward to the third. Liked the characters and appreciated the ending. A definite recommend for those looking for some Grishan lite legal entertainment.

Pleasant legal story

This is the second book I have read in the series and whilst I have enjoyed them the plots are more far-fetched and a bit too simple. The twists are not good enough to make these books worth any more than three stars overall. I’m sorry about this because I very much want to like them all I just think it needs more plot! Narration good. Female voices not great.

Great case

Kind of guessed the twist early on but still enjoyed the journey. Well written and read.
