Publisher's Summary

From the time they were young, Gayle and Patricia were raised like sisters, as close as two friends could be. But they each had dreams that would take them far away - and far away from each other.

Gayle was the beauty who believed that a man could make her life complete. Patricia was the intellectual who thought that rising to the top of her career would make her happy. And then there is Marcus Carter, who has been linked to both Gayle and Pat since the tragedy that occurred when they were all children. Can either one save him from himself? Can friends survive a love that comes between them? Each of them gets what she wants, but no one counts on the price they have to pay.

When they realize that dreams can be hollow and love has its cost, they learn the most important lessons of all: to never give up on the people who love you, and that it isn't just blood that makes two people sisters.

Better with each chapter!

the novel follows the main characters from childhood to mature adult. the deeper into the novel I got the more I enjoyed it. I found myself getting impatient with some of the character's actions and giving them advice. I was surprised at how well researched various aspects of the story were. The novel was a great read and I hated for it to end.

Great book!

The book kept my attention the entire time! I couldn't stop playing it until I finished it. I loved following the story of Gayle, Patricia and Marcus! It was beautifully written and the reader did an excellent job! The reader changed accents and tones to match characters and I appreciated that.

Wow!!

What a story! It seems that everything comes full circle. The books starts a little slowly but takes the reader on an adventurous ride...full of emotion- humorous, frustrating, sad, panic stricken, frightening, joyous, and relieving. Would definitely recommend.

Making a Bed

This is a great story. There were many instances with predictable outcomes but Gail finally "making her bed" and being a grown up made me proud of her. I don't want to spoil the story for future readers, but a certain police officer's actions were shocking .

Tragedy, Friends, Love, and Family!

Loved it from beginning to end! This book is a good reminder that you don't have to be blood related to be family.

Living With the Decisions You Make

Childhood friends experience a tragedy that change their lives forever. Gayle, a spoiled young girl who grows up wanting the same red carpet treatment. She is shallow and dimwitted, but has a compassionate heart, and she's artistic. Patricia, her best friend, may not have the beauty but she has the brain and common sense. However, her independence may cost her to lose the love of her life. Marcus, fights to become the person he never was, believing this somehow compensates for his loss, and he must find his soul and purpose before he loses it. Ultimately, the story is about each one of their decision-making and how it affects their lives long-term. I appreciated the overall moral theme. However, I felt the story was too long and saturated with unnecessary details, and back stories to characters who really had no importance. This story could've easily been several chapters shorter, and much more enjoyable.
