Publisher's Summary

They're out there....
Waiting. Watching. Unseen by normal eyes, but all too visible to Slim MacKenzie, a young man blessed - or cursed - by Twilight Eyes.

They're out there....
Lurking in the darkest shadows of an eerie, moonlit carnival. Feeding their twisted needs with human suffering - and fiendishly plotting the downfall of the human race.

They're out there....
But don't scream. They'll hear you.

Twilight eyes

Nice and creepy, like only Koontz can be. Couldn't stop listening to it. I really liked the characters. Might have to revisit this one. J.

Highly Entertaining

My wife and I spend countless hours on the road. Dean Koontz almost always delivers. This particular book is one of those occasions where he gets it right. There are some mature chapters in the book so younger listeners may be discouraged but I would say this is a gripping tale from his earlier days and it will keep you up while pulling and all nighter.

Not bad I guess..

When I held this book in my hands and slowly read it years ago I loved it, as far as I can remember anyway. Now, years later having it read to me by someone else audiobook style, I found it a little disappointing. Right when the story and characters really begin to come alive, Dean Koontz kills it abruptly. He probably noticed that he hit the minimum pages required to publish and just ran out the door with it. Sad, it needed a big second act part that just didn't happen..
Anyway, 3 stars, main character is in his late teens, young the whole story and the audiobook sounds like my grandfather was reading it to me, weird and not a good fit. If you want a great Koontz audiobook, go with;
1.) Watchers 2.) Lightning 3.) Intensity 4.) One Door away From Heaven 5.) Life Expectancy was also pretty good, so Good Luck!

Odd Thomas original

If you like Mr. Koontz' Odd Thomas series, you will like this. Without doubt this book served as the authors inspiration for Odd Thomas. Certainly the Odd Thomas series has received more attention and is more popular. Nonetheless, there is no doubt this is similar.

The narrator is excellent and enjoyable. I would recommend reading this while awaiting for the next in the Odd Thomas series.

challenging to read

this is the first Koontz story that I did not love. the navigation of the story was not as entertaining or engaging as others that I have heard. the main character, Slim, it's supposed to be 17 years old and yet the Navigators voice belonged to a character much older. The language that was used and the terminology was unbelievable for me for characters that age. I am old enough to remember what we used to talk like back in the 60s, and as teenagers, we would never express ourselves the way these characters did. Just a bit too refined and intellectual, no matter how old the characters may have felt. therefore, it was not convincing for me. Additionally, I think that there was too much descriptive writing which made it more laborious to get through. the storyline was unique oh, and I did enjoy that.

Roller Coaster Ride!

Wow what a good Book!
The books starts out interesting but a little slow. It is kind of like how the cars on a roller coaster are pulled slowly up the first big hill.

The last two thirds of the book is a total horror ride!

The story takes place on the east coast (USA) in 1963-1964. The book was first published in 1985

Great thriller,

This is more a gripping thriller than a scary horror story.

The story is about a young man with the ability to see some people in their true form as evil "goblins" in human disguise. He stalks and kills them and takes refuge with other variously gifted misfits. As the goblins begin to recognise him as a threat, he gradually learns of their evil plans for the downfall of humanity. Although hopelessly outnumbered, he must take the war to the goblins...

The plot is imaginative, well paced and in parts very tense. The characters are very convincing and I really found myself caring what happened to them. Highly recommended.

Good book

Loved this from years back and this is an excellent version with just the right level of intensity.

Story is strong, well paced and begging for a sequel.

A story with great potential that just didn’t deliver

Having enjoyed reading and listening to a great many Dean Koontz books this certainly isn’t one of his best, perhaps explained by the early publication date before he refined his story telling skills. A main character with elements of Odd Thomas’ psychic magnetism ability and Ralph’s ability to see things other can’t in Stephen King’s Insomnia. Although the reviews suggested a promising story, I was left underwhelmed by Twilight Eyes. Great potential but never achieved anything of merit with an ending that was inconclusive and just fizzled out leaving far too many loose ends. Not one I’d recommend.

Beauty,and too many beasts

Rock and Roll up!....If this genre bites your shoulder .Koontz throws almost every horror cliche he can in an epic , multi layered story of teenagers against ultimate evil.
I read this year's ago,and loved it - as Black Sabbath without the music.Oh! spoiler ,the lusty teenagers prevaill. How they find the inclination to unselfishly do so is a complete mystery. Now do I need to Labour the moral point?

Classic Koontz

This is an older Koontz book, and in some ways feels like a precursor to the Odd Thomas books that he was much more successful with. That is not to take away from this story though, as it is very good, well read and overall enjoyable. The pacing can be a bit off in parts and some of it really doesn't hold up to any scrutiny but that shouldn't stop you enjoying it

great explanations, but of a let down

read this as a kid and returned as i didnt remember the plot. so much build up in the first part of the book, and then everyrhing happens within a chapter and we all live happily ever after. very let down. there could have been 5 or 6 more chapters for the ending of part 1

A stunner

This is one of the best books Dean koontz has written, and he has written some good ones. It compares with Swan Song, Carrion Comfort and The Stand, although much shorter than any of those superlative classics. For me, this book is breathlessly exciting. A deep sense of doom and hopelessness for mankind is contrasted by the two main characters hope for their futures and their clever, relentless pursuit of the villians. I always wished Dean had followed through with a second book.

Enjoyable but not my favourite Koontz

I am an avid Koontz listener/reader but this was definitely not my favourite book. Great narration as always with his books but I struggled to keep listening.
