Publisher's Summary

He has a heart of ice . . . but for her, he'd burn the world.

Alex Volkov is a devil blessed with the face of an angel and cursed with a past he can't escape. Driven by a tragedy that has haunted him for most of his life, his ruthless pursuits for success and vengeance leave little room for matters of the heart.

But when he's forced to look after his best friend's sister, he starts to feel something in his chest: A crack. A melt. A fire that could end his world as he knew it.

Ava Chen is a free spirit trapped by nightmares of a childhood she can't remember. But despite her broken past, she's never stopped seeing the beauty in the world . . . including the heart beneath the icy exterior of a man she shouldn't want.

Her brother's best friend. Her neighbor. Her savior and her downfall.

Theirs is a love that was never supposed to happen—but when it does, it unleashes secrets that could destroy them both . . . and everything they hold dear.

Contains mature themes.

Gah! This was so good!!!

Talk about an engrossing story. I started this book this morning and completely devoured it, foregoing any and all responsibility. I had things to do today! 🤣

I don't usually read contemporary romance books. It's not my preferred genre. BUT... This book has been all over TikTok and bookstagram and I thought I should see what all the fuss was about. Man, it did not disappoint.

I don't even know what to say besides you need to read this book. I mean, the scene with the phonecall 🥵... the build up was delicious 🔥

✅ Broody love interest
✅ Brothers best friend
✅ Grumpy x sunshine
✅ Character development on both ends
✅ Some of the best friends I've read
✅ Drama!!
✅ Touch her and die 💀
✅ Spiceeeeeee

Oh, man... It was so good. I'm definitely reading the next few books!

Omg that female narrator…

The female narrator ruins it. I can’t help but laugh at her when she voices the male part 😂 she whispers as if she’s reading this while her family is outside the room and she doesn’t want them to hear.

WHYYYYY THE HYPE

Wow, just No. There are so many things going on in this story and I am seriously perplexed as to why this has been flooded on TikTok, etc. I did a full on review haul and thought, okay everyone is saying this is amazing.. it must have some redeeming qualities. Negative. When I realized the story was going out in left field, I thought, maybe, just maybe the hype is due to the A+ steam that is to come. And still, when they barely kissed half way through I thought.. slow burn be patient, the spice is to come and maybe that will even out the lack of plot and at least be entertaining.
Spoiler- that didn’t come to fruition either. I am truly flabbergasted as to how bad this story is. There are so many things going on with the least priority being the brothers best friend trope. Some mafia, some whodunit murder mystery, just a lot and majority of it is so unrealistic. Painfully so. And I love fiction. Love it but this was so far past the realm of entertainment because it was all over the place and the H&h did not build any tangible chemistry to hold on to. I rarely write a poor review especially when the authors writing style is good just the story is NOT and trust me when I say, don’t believe the hype, not worth a credit.
Also, female narrator did not do as poorly as other reviews mentioned imho. Pleasant to listen to. She did have a “whisper” thing going on but, for me, it didn’t ruin the experience.

Love the story but….

Listen I already knew I would love this book cause I’ve read it. So when the audible came out of course I had to get it. So I love the story but I’m not a fan of the female narrator. Idk what it was about her voice but it wasn’t what I imagined Ava to sound like.

The book is great, but the narrator is Awful.

The story was great but I had to buy the book to read it as the narrator does a HORRIBLE male voice and it just took away from it so much.

!!!!Narrator whispered the entire book, ughhh!!!

I listened to this on Audible and Thank Goodness this book is over. OK!!! Let me clarify. The book itself was ok but the narration was absolutely annoying. Why is the female narrator whispering throughout the entire book. Like Girl speak up!!!! It's so annoying and made me so happy that this book came to an end.
Now lets get to the book!!
Overall all, again, it was just ok. There were so many parts that bothered me. Think about it how many college kids, rich or not, has the FBI in their back pocket. Think about it, exactly!!! It seemed as though every obstacle that one of the main characters came across there was something that they magically had to accomplish the task. If they are trying to pick a lot, oh look they took lock picking class a while back. Or if they are trying to snoop, oh look they have a jammer to interrupt the camera footage, or if they need a favor, they contact their FBI friend and make arrangements. Like seriously!!! This book had sooooo many parts that were far fetched, it ruined the book. I honestly cant continue this series, I REALLY wanted to enjoy it but its just too much, nothing realistic. But others have truly enjoyed this series, I just am not one of those people.

Disappointed in the audio….

The female narrator ruined it for me, especially when she did the male parts. The story within itself was good however the volume of the audio was a little low even with my phone on maximum volume, which made it more difficult to hear the the female narrator when she was trying to speak like a man.

It was ok

I went into this blind and chose it because of the hype. It was good. Nothing that I got super excited about 🤷‍♀️ I didn't love the female narrator. The male narrator was pretty good.
.
IDK I just didn't connect with any of the characters and didn't get invested enough to really care about what happened. It didn't pull out any feelings and I really wanted there to be more tension and angst. It started out promising with the car scene but just didn't live up to the hype for me.
.
Also, I HATE when a man claims to love a woman but calls her S!ut and wh@re in the bedroom. I'm just not about that. Rough seggs...fine. I'm all for it. But not those names. I just can't.

ugh - the whispering

I wanted to continue the series, but can’t get over the female narrators constant breathy whispering. And knowing she narrates the next books in the series makes it a no for me.

Good ... But

Great story. Good story. It took me a minute to get used to the woman who narrated the book.... all the whispering threw me off.

Good idea, horrible execution

The ground work was set, bad boy with family issues, girl with family issues. Both different backgrounds but sadly the story is too shallow... Poor character development with every possible generic profile thrown at the filler characters. But hey, the audio guys sound amazing so bonus points to them 🤣

Disappointed

I dived into this blind! At first I was intrigued. I liked the different nationalities, i.e. Ukrainian and Chinese American which made a nice change.

Alex is the best friend of Ava's brother, Joshua. He is a delicious, grumpy, rich cool anti-hero who can basically do everything and is out for revenge.

Ava is a little innocent playing at photography and her brother asks Alex to watch over her whilst he goes on a working assignment and that's when the trouble starts!

Ava has great friends, one a 'real' princess, the other a high profile blogger and her best friend Jules who is just naughty and their banter is very cute. I loved Operation Emotion and laughed out loud at the picnic scenario.

Then all hell breaks loose and I think the author tried too hard to get all the tropes in one book. There were so many twists and turns that you are left spinning.

Then the book goes into boring downtime before it picks up again with more drama and major grovelling which I felt was unnecessary.

I always think endings are the hardest and this one just didn’t work for me. Hopefully her next book will get better and she'll find her rhythm.

Aidan Snow was delicious as Alex but Cindy Kay jarred.

So disappointing 😔

Could not finish this. The female character was very childish. And with a best friend like Jules, who needs enemies, particularly as Jules is planning to be a lawyer. Alex. . .hmmmm. . .just a very unconvincing story for me. A shame as Aiden Snow is a great narrator. But even his voice could not push me to continue past chapter 4. I want my money back 😶

Twisted Love

Aiden Snow was great as always but I really struggled with Cindy Kay’s narration. It was hard to get past her whispering for the entire story.
