Story
On Getting Unstuck, Pema Chodron introduces a rare Tibetan teaching she received from her teacher, Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche, and one that has become critical to her practice. Here, she unveils the mystery of an ineffable quality; a "pre-emotional" feeling that arises in us, brings us discomfort, and causes us to react by escaping the discomfort, often with harmful habits. With Getting Unstuck, she offers us a first look at "both the itch and the scratch": what Tibetan Buddhists call shenpa.

Story
Spiritual practice, Pema Chödrön teaches, has nothing to do with self-improvement, since, as the course's title claims, you're already perfect right now. The limitless qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity are your deep-down, ultimate reality, and those are qualities that can't be improved upon. If you're not feeling particularly kind, compassionate, joyful, or equanimous at the moment, take heart: the Four Limitless Ones are there like seeds, waiting to be cultivated through practice.

Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children - and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

Another Clear Sign-post from Pema for the Journey
The inner journey has many twists, turns, dead ends and distractions. This is my third "read" of Pema Chodron and in each one I have come away with guideposts, clear vision and surer footing for my own travels inward. Her manner, demeanor and quiet assurance are evident in her voice. Her ability to speak spontaneously with stories, analogies and structured technique lend confidence to my own experiences.
To be able to carry her words and her voice into my own meditations and daily life contribute to my growing confidence in my ability to find my way to peace, happiness and equinimity.
The only drawback to this book, in my mind, was the interview that was the second half of the book. I liked the idea behind the interview and some of the questions were helpful in clrarifying some of the material in the teachings. However, it became redundant and I found the interviewer's voice somewhat grating--this may be a personal preference that others might not share. I would not, however, let it stop me from reading a great lesson from a sensitive, wise teacher.

Great talk given by a great teacher
Here Pema Chodron gives her a personal interview at the end of the book about her past and how she came to be in Buddhism. She goes through here two meditations and one is very powerful. Here we learn about rooting ourselves to be flexible and preparing ourselves to be ready for the unexpected. I've been reading on old 'Earth' religions and they teach the same thing. I've found this technique very useful. Here you will find the information very useful and helpful.

What made the experience of listening to Unconditional Confidence the most enjoyable?
I appreciate Pema Chodron's down to earth, straightforward clarity in speaking to mindfulness and courage. She is matter of fact in speaking to the realities of pain and fear in life but finds a way to bring those realities into a relationship with self. She successfully opens opportunities to engage mindfullness with out attaching to fear or anxiety

Warm and inspiring teachings for life
I am deeply grateful to Pema Chodron and the line of teachers to whom she belongs. Her books and audio recordings have supported me through difficult times and helped me move towards increasing ability to work with and learn from whatever arises in my life. Her approach is very down to earth and, though it is sometimes framed in Buddhist language, I think it will be accessible and relevant to most adults interested in developing compassion and awareness.

unconditional confidence
this is an interesting combination of teaching and interview, it has a contempoary feel to it as pema chodrun is asked to put her teachings into the context of other non dualistic thinkers of this time, i found this quite fascinating as it raised the practical application of buddhism to unhook us from our patterns and its shadow of making us identify with being meditators and attach to much importance to belief and practice as oppposed to groundlessness. But most valuable as always is the voice of gentleness and kindness against the rawness of modern times.
