The shape of career to come
Following this new author on YouTube in the lead-up to the launch of her first book, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I'm not averse to, or above reading young adult fiction books, but it's also not a genre that makes it onto my list all that often. Based on the hints and glimpses of the story the author promoted through her channel, I couldn't help but get the feeling that this would be a Harry Potter meets The Princess Diaries. And if it were, it would be worthwhile exploring. Boy was I pleasantly surprised.
The story, the characters, the setting, and the pacing are all extremely well crafted. It had me intrigued from the very beginning. In many ways it reminded me of my fondness for The Prince and the Pauper, but with a much more modern and layered spin. One thing I am still having trouble getting over, is how well the author captured the principles of duty and honour. In numerous parts it had me choking up, and a handful of times outright tearing up and sniffling. Evoking such emotions is challenging for even more seasoned writers with many more years of life experience to tap into. Given the author's age, I have to say that my hope for the future has been renewed.
Connie Glynn, you are an unstoppable force. I look forward to the next installment.

My new favorite book series!
I'm not very good with words, so, in a nutshell: Everything about this book feels like it's catered to me and my interests, specifically, so I guess you could say I enjoyed it very much.
I found this series through it's house sorting quiz on it's delightful little website (adorably illustrated, by the way) and was happy to see it was available on audible!
Without doing much research on the book or it's author, I dove in and found myself incredibly enchanted with it's characters. The concept of whimsical princess adventures within a boarding school setting is something I've always loved, and it's easy for me to shut off my brain and get sucked into the magic of things even if certain parts of a story and characters leave me wanting. However, only half an hour into THIS book, and I already knew I'd be able to enjoy myself to the fullest.
The friendships and Other Beautifully Surprising, And Very Much Welcomed relationship developments, in this story is something I've been craving for so long and some of the interactions had me burying a stupid grin in my hands Multiple times (something that rarely happens outside of reading a particularly good fanfiction) There is so much love and affection and trust shared between others. It stresses the importance of close bonds and inspiring each other to be stronger, to be better. It shows that there's strength in vulnerability and that one of the bravest things a person can do is be kind and empathetic in a world that sees those things as weak.
The story carried a certain heavy weight and a sense of mystery and peril in a way I didn't expect, either. I almost made myself late to work because I just HAD to finish a chapter, otherwise I'd be stressing out worrying about a favorite character!
I'm poor at leaving reviews, but I had to share my happiness.
Thank you Connie Glynn, I don't know how I'll survive your next two books.

What a fun new series!
Would you listen to Undercover Princess again? Why?
Of course! Connie Glynn has a nice therapeutic voice which nice when someone is reading a book to you. The storyline is well written and you get attached to the characters.
What other book might you compare Undercover Princess to and why?
Fated (The Soul Seeker series by Alyson Noël)
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Lottie Pumpkin, she is very nice and thinks before she speaks which is always good.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Best friends with a princess
Any additional comments?
I can't wait for book 2. I'm defiantly going to have to re-listen to this book. I loved listening to this book on long car rides.

The Undercover Story
The Undercover Princess was the first audiobook I've ever listened to. When I was trying to choose which book to pick I decided that I wanted a light read that would allow myself to adjust my reading skills to audiobook world. I chose The Undercover Princess because I thought it would be like the Disney movie Princess Protection Program. I knew the story so it would be easier to follow through. I could not be more wrong. This story has nothing to do with the movie. The magic surrounding it's so much more mesmerizing. I was expecting some kind of cheesy love story but instead I was presented with a beautifully constructed friendship based in loyalty, protection and adventure. Not a predictable friendship based on the similarities both Ellie and Lottie had but on their differences. Night and day. The sun and the moon. I was absolutely attached to the characters. I really related myself with Lottie, I adored Eleanor Wolfson and her wild personality, I hated Anastacia with all my strength (not in the end bit of course) and I respected Jamie. Never for a moment I had expected the story to turn out the way it did. It was unpredictable, well written and meaningful. What can I say? I'm utterly in love with it. I haven't loved a book this much for a very long time. I can't wait to read the second book! Until then, I will do my very best to be kind, brave and unstoppable!

Regurgitated cliches and bad storytelling
Urgghhhhhhhhh.....
I really don't know what I was expecting. I got this book because it was deal of the day on Audible and I was between credits. It sounded very cliche and cheesy, but then I saw it had LGBTQ themes and thought maybe that would make it worth it.
In short, not really. I mean, the last 5% of the book was pretty good, but it didn't make up for the 95% before it. It really shows how bad the storytelling was that the author felt the need to hint at the upcoming excitement in books to follow, since apparently, she wasn't confident in her own foreshadowing to keep readers interested (there was none really).
On the positive side (it's 2 stars!) - there was MINOR LGBTQ themes. It would have been nicer to read this than the usual stuff when I was a pre-teen, and some of the characters were fun. All of them are one dimensional, but hey.
Having said all that, part of me thinks following books could really pick up. Will I read them, though? I mean I just bought 4 audiobooks 20hr+ length in the sale, so.... not for a long time, and not unless following books are on sale when I'm lost between credits again.
It was cute, I guess. It was nice.
"Nice." If a date ever described me as "nice", I'd dumped them. So I gotta dump this book. Sorry!
ALSO: Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis. Antithesis.
If I ever hear this word again, it'd be too soon. Eurgh.
A final note on the performance: Glynn's reading was fine. Just fine. Nice. She was reading a book. There were no distinction between voices, and it wasn't gripping. Her mother's voice was nice at the start but yeah... nice. See above about nice. When you get to the end of the book, you're suddenly attacked by a horridly flat male voice. It's genuinely the most awful audible experience I've had, and then for like 40s, the female voice changes to signify another character and it was unnecessary, rushed, and awful.
I'm done :)

UM HEY CONNIE??? COULD U PLEASE STOP BEING SO TALENTED?? I never want to leave this little universe of precious children ever and now I've finished the book I'm left floundering, desperate for more. Thanks for taking me on such a wonderful adventure. The main trio are adorable and relatable and so very easy to love, the narration was perfect, and every detail of the book felt precise and deliberate. You have a gift. Thank you for sharing it.
