Publisher's Summary

A return from the past knocks a family dangerously off-balance in a novel of spiraling suspense by Washington Post and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Minka Kent.

Merritt Coletto and her husband, Luca, have the life they dreamed of: a coastal home, a promising future, and a growing family. That dream ends with a late-night knock on the door.

Weak, broken, and emaciated, it’s Luca’s first wife, Lydia. Missing for ten years, presumed dead, and very much alive, she has quite a story. Her kidnapping. A torturous confinement that should’ve ended with her dead. And finally, escape. Racked with guilt over the beautiful life they’ve built, Merritt and Luca agree to help get Lydia back on her feet - it’s the least they can do.

But the more enmeshed Lydia becomes in Merritt’s family, the more questions Merritt has. What is it about Lydia that’s especially unnerving? Why hasn’t she gone to the police with her harrowing tale? What does she really want of them? The answers, when they come, are terrifying.

Because Lydia isn’t the only one with secrets.

As Farfetched as They Come

This may be the most preposterous tale I have ever read and only finished listening to see how the author would resolve the illogical storyline. The characters were wholly unlikeable leaving the reader with no one to root for. I’m at a loss as to how a poorly written book like this could receive such high ratings. I regret having used a credit for this.

Could not listen!

I could not abide by the narration of this story! I’ve began reading this book, and I really like it so far. But listening to it, the premise felt wrong and ugly.

The narrator is speaking in first person as the 2nd wife of the husband in this book. She answers the door to a bedraggled waif who claims to be the long-dead first wife of her own husband.

The tone of voice, inflection on words, the breathless desperation all make this second wife sound hateful and conniving. When I read the words myself, I left myself open to the notion that the woman answering the door was being cautious, and protecting her children. As fits the story. Listening, the woman just sounded like a selfish b*tch who left a struggling person out in the cold. I didn’t feel like reading such negativity at the onset of a story. I prefer a little buildup of story as I form my own opinions of characters.

Narrators can make or break a story. I don’t understand why so many narrators adapt the breathless, desperate, “I’ve got a secret” tone for almost every book they read. I usually can’t make it past the first chapter!

Thankfully this book is Kindle Unlimited “read & listen” so I can get into reading it, then only listen when I’m driving, after I’ve gotten into the story and can tolerate it til I’m able to pick up reading it again.

Very awesome book!

Oh I have only read a couple of books by this author. I enjoyed them both very much. I put this one on my wish list months ahead of time because they were so good. I don’t regret it at all! I love a good book with strong female characters. Give me a whiny main character and this book is back to Audible!
There are several twist that you won’t see coming. It was kind of ironic because one of the twist at the end was something I kept yelling at one of the main characters to do! Yes, I was so involved with the book that I was yelling at the characters what to do during some of the scenes! That tells you that it’s a good book! Stop reading all the reviews and just use the credit because icon promise you that you will be just as big of a fan as I am! A big thanks to my friend Linda for recommending this author to me!

Amazing plot

This is an intense , fascinating story with an amazing plot, that burns slowly until the bomb explodes in an unexpected and shocking events that will leave you speechless and perplexed. Is well written and narrated, smart and exhilarating. I definitely recommend it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Four Crazy Stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This review is for Unmissing by author Minka Kent and narrated by Carly Robins & Jane Oppenheimer.

This is a first listen by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after reading good reviews I decided that I was all in…I did not regret it.

Unmissing’s fast pace and clever plot immediately grabbed my attention and kept it through the (audio)books entirety. It was loaded with twists and turns (some predictable, some not) and really kept me wanting more. The story was one that I found to be an easy one to follow, all while being interesting at the same time.

The narration was excellent. Carly Robins & Jane Oppenheimer did an amazing job in bringing this book to life.

Overall I really felt that Unmissing was well written and credit-worthy. I shorted it a star because at times I thought maybe the plausibility factor was being pushed to its limits. I’m still looking forward to listening to more audiobooks by Minka Kent.

Thank you for allowing me to review this audiobook.

Couldn’t stop listening!

I love Minka Kent and was very excited to a new book and this one did not disappoint.

I had some idea of what was going on but boy did the story take several twists that I did not see coming! It kept me on the edge of my seat.

Both narrators were incredible! Their performances were absolutely terrific.

Worth a credit and then some!

Surprising

I wondered all along why certain things didn’t happen. I thought it totally missed the mark. So glad I didn’t quit it. Worth a read

This is simply awful. HATED IT.

The premise of the story was great (presumed murdered wife returns after 9 years), but that was as good as it got. I kept with it, hoping that it would somehow become less STUPID, but it never did. Lots of clichéd phrases, absolutely ridiculous story development, and unbelievable character behavior. The narration was not good either. The narrator for Merritt was good and deserved 3-stars, but the narrator for Lydia was just wrong for the character (almost sticky sweet) and she needed a dictionary because she mispronounced so many words (Geoduck? GEODUCK?! Seriously?!). Absolutely hated this and won't be reading/listening to another book by this "author".

Good Story

I really enjoyed the story itself, if a little far fetched, and the twist was unexpected. I struggled with the narration of 'Lydia'. The intonation seemed wrong and was all read on the same 'sickly sweet' level, even when she was talking about her experiences at the cabin. It was difficult to listen to but I persevered because of the storyline.

Easy listen, quite far fetched

If you’re looking for something to pass the time whilst you drive or do the housework this is the one for you!
It’s very far fetched and unrealistic! The story unfolds
at a quick pace.
Light fun if you can look past the glaring ridiculousness of it all !

A film version could be unmissable

I struggled with these particular American accents. Just too sugary sweet that turned me off all of them. I struggled liking anyone. A reasonable storyline with one twist I wasn't expecting. I reckon it could make a good film, treated right and building the intrigue and suspense. An interesting concept of someone coming back from being missing presumed dead. Made me wonder what dues happen in real life; how people cope and adjust once the news headlines subside and they are left to get on with restarting their lives.

Gripping Thriller

A masterfully written thriller and although the first half is intriguing, the second half is impossible to put down.
