You live in your dream house, but there's no mortgage. No alarm clock, no boss, no bills. No claims on the day's time other than what you choose. It is making more money before breakfast than you made for an entire week at your last job. Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Publisher's Summary
Has your life been conscripted by an economic religion?
Learn how to free yourself and your life through the power of unscripted entrepreneurship.
Grab your front-row seat in the story of a lifetime. Witness how one family escapes the rat race - the world's economic religion - and how you can too.
By all appearances, Jeff and Samantha Trotman are living the American dream. But behind the white picket fence, they endure an American nightmare. With little time for each other, a pile of debt, and Ferrari taste on a Ford budget, the ruse of affluence is killing them. Two respectable jobs and a lovely suburban house paint a pretty picture, but behind the ink is a broken marriage rife with meaningless work and dead dreams. And now, with an unplanned pregnancy, they’re facing a mid-life crisis 20 years early.
With little time and looming bankruptcy, the Trotmans are forced to face the red-pill truth they long denied: They were living, but they weren’t alive. Determined to resurrect their life and their marriage, the Trotmans plot a rat-race escape - only to find themselves more thickly in it. As tensions rise and hope fades, follow along step-by-step as the Trotmans pivot to a new strategy and a new career: starting a business as entrepreneurs. While they navigate their journey, you’ll learn 120 wealth-building strategies and principles that your mainstream financial guru won’t dare reveal - actionable concepts that will help you profit your way into the unscripted one percent, an emerging economic class of entrepreneurs who enjoy a lifetime of freedom emancipated from miserly living and Wall Street's "save, pray, and wait" paradigm.
Discover how one family escapes the wage-slaving grind and wins a lifetime of financial freedom, leaving behind the tyranny of meaningless jobs and mediocre living - and how you can do the same. Not in 50 years, but five or 10.

More of the same
I'm a huge fan of MJ. That being said, I don't understand why he felt the need to write a third book that added absolutely nothing new to his message.
The horrible storytelling with the fictional couple only made it worse.
Read his previous books and you will be fine. Absolutely do not recommend.

Mostly recycled material.
The fictional story is a good case study, but most of the material is covered in the first unscripted book and the millionaire fastlane. It is also better structured in those prior books.
The story also makes frequent use of the tired trope of the bumbling stupid husband that would be lost without his clever wife.
The author went vegan, and like most vegans, he preaches his veganism at every turn like a gospel, also making health and environmental factoids that have long been debunked as if they were facts.
The business concepts are solid, but you’ll benefit more buying the first unscripted book.

Preachy/mostly recycled.
The actual story in the book was ok until about half way when it became just preachy garbage championing veganism. The actual business side of the book was mostly recycled from his earlier titles. I find it strange that DeMarco would alienate his audience like this considering he isn't specifically targeting vegan audiences and doing so ruins his value skew and limits his customers.
Personally this book has little relative value, especially compared to DeMarco earlier work.

DeMarco is Maturing
I’ve read all DeMarco’s books, and they are life changing. He has definitely changed in this book, and though the other books a hinge upon a similar topic, this one also does justice to his brand. All his books are strong in different ways, similar to Star Wars episodes 1-3 or Star Wars episodes 4-6. If you read any of his books, you know what I mean. The man knows how to write, and I am so glad he did not commit suicide. God bless you, Mr. DeMarco.

Better than 5 stars
Another masterpiece by MJ Demarco. This is one of the best personal finance/entrepreneurial books I've read in a while. MJ is probably one of the few people in personal finance who will actually tell you the truth about what it takes to build and grow wealth. The storytelling is good and the MJ's "tell it like it is" style of writing makes for an excellent listen. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, read it, and then put his advice into practice.

missed potential
Diderot is mispronounced. this was after a chapter talking about how you do anything is how you do everything. The irony was not lost on me. I appreciated the take on conventional wisdom. I do think the book peaks early and doesn't deliver as well in the second half. Demarco admits this is part of his plan.

Skip the fiction parts
I had to skip the fiction parts of the book. Total cringe. If I hadn't been able to skip them I would've returned the book for a refund.
Basically, the story is a couple having financial and relationship issues. They find MJ DeMarco's books, follow his advice and turn things around.
I'm guessing they were successful, but I had to start skipping these chapters because they were causing me internal pain.
Both MJ and the other narrator are good.
MJ was doing the non-fiction parts and as ever, they're enlightening and very good. He still does those voices which make it sound like he's having a conversation with Fozzy Bear though.

Read it and weep (into cashmoney probably)
Even better as an audiobook - the slightly Winnie-The-Pooh-esque narrator on the chunky chapters about the core mindset and methodology makes for pleasent listening, and MJ DeMarco's passionate delivery of the parallel novel, a practical implementation (or not) of the techniques, is a welcome and interesting double-whammy of knowledge transfer.
Gift this amazing book to everybody you know and watch their journey with interest over the years as they don't bother to read it, lol.
This is now my only desert-island book (sorry 'Unscripted' you're out -- this has better structure and deeper ideas).

Incredible book
I've read/audible listened to all three of MJ's books now and this for me is the best one. I could completely relate to the story and for me that is what has made it more compelling than the other two. The other two are also incredible but this is a little bit more practically involved giving a little bit more context to the fast line principle. I will say the other two for foundations are brilliant as you need to know the commandments etc and when seeing how they apply here in a more strategic approach you really get the bigger picture. I've started my process now and I'm grateful to MJ for that.

Too much veganism in a business book
Great book about productocracy, too much vegan agenda in it. I would not expect to read a lot about any particular religion in a business book, so for me strict vegan views are also not welcomed in that kind of book. As usual great advice how to escape the rat race, just filter out vegan stuff if you don't like it like me.

Full disclosure: I’m a huge MJ fan.
If you’ve read his other work, this book has similar advice with more up-to-date content, and mixes business advice with a fictional story of a struggling couple escaping their 9-5. The story felt like watching a movie with score 6.8 on IMDB, solid line with gut wrenching moments, but nothing ground-breaking. Between each story chapter, Demarco delivers his trademark tough love advice as entertaining as ever.
If you’ve never read a Demarco’s book, he spits hard truths and exposes lies told us by media, parents, teachers and Wall Street for their gain. I was a happy index fund investor, financial independence follower. I remember the exact moment when MJ introduced the idea of Controlled Unlimited Leverage, the CENTS commandments, which is the opposite of advice found on most personal finance books, the old “work, save, invest wisely, avoid debt, retire”. Demarco “cursed” my life to a path of freedom via creating a business system that scales having you in control.
Thanks MJ!

My new favourite book!
For anyone struggling to get out of the rat race, this book is for you. The last time I was this into a book was MJ Demarco's first book, but this one has topped it I think. Perfect timing for me as I'm 4 months into my side business that I'm turning into my main source of income. There are tonnes of strategies that really make sense. Some you already know that it helps reinforce, and some that open your eyes.
I loved the interlacing of fiction and factual strategy, illustrating a couple attempting to break out of the rat race alongside the strategies he explains along the way. And I'm really glad MJ narrated the strategy sections himself again.
I enjoyed it so much that I was disappointed it ended, but it really fired me up and has pointed me in the right direction again. Once you read MJ's books, there's no going back...

I found the book frustrating to listen to, and at times difficult, not because it was no good but because it was hitting too close to my own relaity. Frustration would build up at my own inactions and reality that I face being stuck in a job I'm and saving pennies with no real financial gains.
This is a good book to inspire you into action and make a start, as it has for me.

Nothing new here
Just regurgitating the same message that has been told a million times before. If you have read other finance books you have read this one. Another who is coining all the new phrases and system. But it nothing new just the same old advice repackaged

Hey MJ, Nice Book. (But my book is BETTER!)
Guys please checkout my excellent book called "The Treasure Map Checklist." By Justin Allen - Now Available on Kindle.
I'm a big fan of MJ DeMarco and have highly recommend his first book "The Millionaire Fastlane" in my book, but being very honest I am very disappointed with this book called "Unscripted: The Great Rat-Race Escape."
And well, it could of been much better. It's way too long winded, and repeats alot of the content from MJ's other books. Would of prefered all new concepts and the book to be more similar to "The Millionaire Fastlane" type of story line. Still worth checking out if your a big MJ DeMarco fan. But it's MJ's worst book and after reading it belongs at the bottom of a bird cage.
Ps. The 5 star reviews about this book are mostly fake and I recommend to read the bad reviews.
