Shockingly Hard to Put down
I’m going to be honest. My first thought before choosing to read this book was why do I want to read a book about a whore in the Bible? But, I decided to read anyway. I was shocked when I felt so much compassion, understanding and forgiveness for Bathsheba. I would recommend this book to any person Christian or not but especially for people that attend church regularly. Often times people visit churches and feel the way Bathsheba felt as if they have no hope for repentance. This goes against everything that God intended. Man condemns but got off is the gift of forgiveness and repentance. This is a good read.

Never Gets Old
The story of David and Bathsheba never gets old. It applies as much today as it did then. I love the way Fracine Rivers writes its as though you are right there, all the while telling the story God wanted you to hear. The narrator did a great job as well switching her voice between each character, not missing a beat.

Francine Rivers brings to this classic Bible story
The thing about writing a well known Bible story in this contemporary age is that it allows us, readers, to realise their relevance for today in living colour rather than well-worn text. Seeing the people involved as frail and human as any of us today.
We look at the leaders of today and whether they are Autocaratic Potentates or Honourable Deliverers, it seems the people like to judge them, either favourably or harshly. In this book, we see the leaders of old had the same judgements passed on to them by the people however, we see that God although not overlooking their transgressions; gave an opportunity for repentance and ensuing forgiveness. I rather found that side characters were also brought to life as I listened too.
We also see that every deed of evil no matter how well concealed came to light.
I thoroughly enjoyed this portrayal of Bathsheba, David and many other characters on my second read.
No doubt I will listen again. The Narrator is a superb reader.
