Biblical & Inspiring

If you have read the bible then you already know how this story goes. This didn't spoil this book for me at all!! It was wonderful to see how God can use even the most infantile or feeble believers. The bible is read before and finishes with more passages, but in the middle there is the beautifully emotional story of Tamar (pronounced "Tae-mer" in this novel). I don't think she ever had a loving relationship until her children were born. You got to know all the characters in Juda's household and saw how he felt. I was appropriately duisgusted by his son's and rooted for Juda and Tamar's faith to uphold at every chapter. It is a short read, and one I recommend. Be forewarned, it is an emotional story, not a light read.

A small bible story which comes to life

Good interpretation and knowledge,
memorable and also intriguing.
A small part of a bible story comes to life.
It helps you restructure your feelings towards our daily difficulties and our lack of understanding.
This story portrays courage and patience.

CONFUSED.... AND DISAPPOINTED

The story was wonderful and heart touching.. The person reading the book had an unappealing voice at first, it was very deep, scratchy... it took me some time to get use to it.. Now why I'm disappointed. Why is it that the physical book is sold with all the stories together and audio is sold separately with only 4 hours averaging each short story, and for full price? It would be great if they could either combine them or at least reduce the price just a little..
Francine Rivers your an AMAZING writer, love u!!

Caught in a trap

My feeling about the book was dominated by a feeling of being trapped.... The original book is one book 5 stories... The audiobook version divided it into 5 books, each costing as much as any other novel. Full price for 4 hours... buyer beware! The story does not hold up well on its own... its just hangs in the air and need the other stories to form the pearls on a string, which the paper copy does.

Buy the single books, not the compilation.

This narrator did a much better job than the gal that narrates the compendium of all the books in the series. I had originally downloaded it and had to return it because the narration was so awful. I was relieved that audible had a different narrator as an option even if I had to buy each short story in the series for a single credit.

Narrator awful! Can’t even pronounce names right

The narrator for the book was awful! Very deep gruff voice didn’t even pronounce Tamar‘s name right.

Good book, don't like reader

The story itself is pretty well done, though the characters are a little flat. I do not at all like the narrator. Her voice sounds raspy, and her prosody and emphasis is off just enough that it's distracting. I like audiobooks and like this author, but I won't buy more books with this narrator.

Amazing

I truly enjoyed this book. I listen to the entire book in one sitting. I enjoyed how the book didn't veer from the word of God. I cried, I smiled and it gave a depth of thought. First of 4his kind. I wait for the next one.

wonderful

I really enjoyed listening to the story about Tamar and the narrator brought the story to life in the Bible and I had a greater understanding of the time of old in the Bible. How God used Tamar to show Judha that he needed God's forgiveness and to recognise once he confessed his sin God would restore Judha to the place he wanted Judha to be. Tamar was an amazing women because she suffered so much for a young girl at the age 14 , I have been truly blessed.

Nice and colourful

It was very nice to get a better insight on the different traditions and uses of the old tribes. I wish I could read all the old books of the bible like this one.

a Story for all dad's and daughters

The story of Tamar's determination to do the right thing and her hunger to know and serve the living God is inspiring. I was 23 years old when i first read this story. I'm 35 now and planning to name my next daughter after Tamar. it's not an easy story to listen to but God also challenges us to be the best parents we can and set an example.

it's also encouraging to know God's plan for us isn't necessary linked to our short comings. God has great plans for us even if we are here normal people.

Tamar's story along with Redeeming love is my favorite work from F. Rivers.

Brilliant

I love this whole series.
The stories are so gripping with so much details, you almost forget that it is a biblical story.
The narrator is very easy to listen to and the books are so well written.

Would highly recommend, whether you are Christian or not. If you like historical novels, you will love these too.

Absolutely wonderful

I struggle to find books that grip me but this certainly did. I’ve read a number of Francine Rivers books and have always enjoyed them.
I love you the way this story connects the stories in the bible that were happening in Tamar’s time.
A great read.
