Story
Diviner Alex Verus finally made one too many enemies on the Council of Mages, and now one of them is angry enough to have him executed. Fighting for his life is nothing new, but this kill order also calls for the death of Alex's dependents - and there's no way that he'll let Luna, Anne, and Vari take the heat. With only a week before he's history, Alex will have to figure out how to disassociate himself from his friends, scrounge up allies on the council, and hopefully keep his head attached to his body.

Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stomping ground. It may seem like a good ghostbuster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle, but there's a risk: sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him. When Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London, what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the Who Can Kill Castor First Show, with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's Summary
Diviner Alex Verus and the Council that governs the magical community have never gotten along. But with his former teacher back in Britain, Alex is in desperate need of allies, and he'll do whatever it takes to get them - even if it means accepting a job with the Keepers, enforcing magical law. Alex forms an uneasy alliance with his new partner, Caldera, but his attempt at legitimacy quickly turns lethal when a mission puts him in possession of an item that factions both inside and outside of the Council would kill to get their hands on.
Once again caught in the middle of a deadly conflict, Alex will need all his abilities to figure out who his friends are - especially when enemies are hiding on all sides....

I read this in about 2 days and it cheered me up to having another Alex Verus book but it felt like Benedict need some things to happen to set up for Richard but didn't want to leave Alex out; which in many ways is his natural place in the political world. The book felt "thin" (not as much of a pun as I would like) and forced. Milestone happened but it felt a little too much like god pushing the pieces into place rather then a natural or believe pattern.
Still however willing and ready to read book 7 and very likely book 8 too.
Gildart performance remains strong.

One of the best in the series!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Exciting, Thrilling, even after 5 other books
What was one of the most memorable moments of Veiled?
Opening the book, allows you to regain the relationship with old friends, and meet some new ones
Which character – as performed by Gildart Jackson – was your favorite?
Alex as always
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Alex put to the test like never before
Any additional comments?
After 5 books one would figure book 6 would be a filler. One would be wrong. Book 6 stands out like no other. It could be read on its own, but reading the other 5 would be a good idea and wonderful time spent. I hope this series continues to many more books and soon.

Disappointing
This entry was very unsatisfying with respect to either its internal plot or moving the overall story forward. Once again Alex accomplished little other than surviving and adding more enemy mages to his roster. It would be nice to see some plot threads begin to wrap up.

female characters
are treated so horribly by the narrator that it makes me cringe constantly. they mostly sound shrill or insipid. i find listening to it on a slightly faster speed removes some of the annoying emphasis and makes it more appetizing. story is getting repetitive as book follows book. i’m still hanging in there but some of the joy has faded.

Long set up to a mere battle, not the war
Still a solid entry, however the mystery procedural was just a backdrop to the series’ story arc involving the war for control of the magical world. There’s a lot of Council politics about whether dark mages should be permitted to join, the best way to keep the magical peace, and the importance of blindly following orders. I found the machinations to be blah, blah, blah forgettable.
Also unfortunate is the absence of series regulars. Other than the very beginning and end, when Luna and Vari come into play, it’s pretty much the Alex Verus & Keeper Caldera show. Interesting folks like Araknee the spider get only cameos.
If you’ve gotten this far in the series, however, you’re invested, and trudging through the political mud pays off a bit with thrilling action at the end of this book. But,I recommend waiting for a sale, because books 5-8 are the Empire Strikes Back middle of this twelve book series. These middle books are all about dragging Alex Verus down to his pivotal, rock bottom moment. It’s all a series of losses, missteps, and Alex’s dwindling options; he doesn’t really start to fight back until the end of book 8 and then it gets real. And dark. And finally, the action and mayhem pick up and the series deliciously satisfies again.
