Publisher's Summary

When your mob families are at war, what are the risks of giving love a shot?

In this explosive short story, international bestselling author Jeffery Deaver brings readers a classic tale of star-crossed lovers who defy the boundaries of enemy territory. When an underworld kingpin gets taken out, his prime turf is up for grabs. For Irish crime lord Brendon Nagle and archrival John Yung, head of a forty-man tong, it’s war. For Nagle’s son, Andrew, and Yung’s daughter, Loi, it’s love at first sight. But others are watching as their secret love unfolds. Surveilled, suspected of betrayal, and targets of their fathers’ ruthless greed, Andrew and Loi know this story well. They’re doomed. But they have plans of their own. Challenging the violent rules of the mob, they’re rushing headlong toward a fate that few can see coming.

That was fun!

This fascinating suspense short story does not seem like a typical Jeffrey Deaver book at all. Deaver shu;ld consider writing other short stories. Great story and great narration!!

Of course a lot is left unresolved. Maybe Deaver will expand VERONA into a full novel.

Loved it.

I love the book with many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Which is typical for Jeffrey Deaver. one of my favourite authors.

Weakest Deaver output ever.

Predictable plot. Could have been written by a high schooler. The reading performance was infantile. Very disappointing.

No need for foul language!

Love mystery but no need for foul language to tell a story. Swearing
is an indication of a limited vocabulary so stopped reading at first chapter!

Bored

I loved the narrator, And the ending was quite grand but I was bored 45 minutes into the book. I listen while I crochet so I just stuck it out.

Romeo and Juliet with Twists

This was a highly entertaining love story about the daughter and son of rival mob heads falling in love. Everyone knows how that turned out right? Both fathers hate each other and the fact that their offspring are dating. This being a Jeffery Deaver story, you won't see the multiple twists coming. I loved them. Narration was great on the audiobook.

Too much cussing and vulgarity

Vulgarity adds nothing - distracts. Story line seems to rely vulgarity to demonstrate a tough guy instead of actually building the character.

I never saw it coming and I usually do pretty close to the beginning
